Better yet, if you are creditworthy enough, buy or hire a Porsche Carrera or a 911.
I don’t know if SC is trolling with that sound question but to my ears it sounds pretty uniform, especially in the lower revs. Each push on the gas pedal produces a snarling type of sound, which is a deep rolling type of a sound. I think the whistle you’re referring to is created in the higher rev ranges, so on track. The air intake isn’t fully utilised in lower revs (and why would they) so the sudden burst of air causes a high pitch sound which could be experienced as a whistle.
But don’t take my word for it, please wait until Pedo confirms everything after extensively google searching this.
10 cylinders
5.7-liter displacement
605 hp @ 8,000 rpm
435 lb-ft torque @ 5,750 rpm
8,400-rpm maximum engine speed
12.0:1 compression ratio
It has 10 cylinders, small displacement for 10 cylinders, revs up to 8000 rpm.
These type of engines whistle rather than roar like American and Mercedes Engines. The smaller the displacement is, the higher the RPM has to be in order for an engine to produce power. Couple this with an exhaust system engineered to sound a specific way, and that’s what you get.
the Lexus LFA has one of the best sounding engines and is a prime example of small displacement high RPM class of engines…
wrong
Porches are some of the best handling cars on the road when it comes to competition. Your Challenger would get fucked sideways to death on a track. THere is a reason why they are so common in GT style racing. But now in days, there are cars that are somewhat cheaper and give you more than the Porche if you know how to drive. They are dangerous by default due to being rear mounted cars, if you go over the mechanical limits, you will eat shit badly, the NSX had this problem too, but was a better handling car though.
ZR-1, Viper TA…
That said, Porche is the best production vehicle company in Europe when it comes to giving you a track car for a reasonable price.
Fun Fact, Porche’s get really expensive because they charge an arm and leg for options. IIRC getting floor mats and carpet with stiching can cost up to 5k+$. Hahahahah
your thinking of the intake. All intakes make a whistle sound. If you have a turbo or supercharger you hear a more pronounced engine whistle. IF you have a massive intake, which these performcance cars do, then it’s more pronounced. You can hear the whitsle even in everyday cars like a Honda accord. It’s faint but not loud.
but some engines ound high pitched naturally. Small displacement, high reving engines have a higher pitch.
Compare a 6 cylnder from Nissan to a normal 8 cylinder from an American car.
One is throaty the other is more high pitched snarl.
Now add more cylinders and make the displacement per cylinder smaller and you end up reving higher. thus you get a whistle, now add a turbo, and GG.
But I didn’t need google for this shit. Unlike you, I actually take care and do my own maintnance on my car which means I actually have to learn how engines work and why they work.
But hey nothing a book on automotive enginerring or mechanics cant teach, but oh wait, Google is the only source of information for people now in days. Go eat a dick faggot.
Pedo: you really have no clue what you’re talking about. Same as with the marijuana thread. You are clueless. You do not know anything.
That little bullshit story about displacement has nothing to do with SC’s question whatsoever. Nothing! Please just stop spreading inaccurate information. It’s because of idiots like you that there are health and safety procedures, but what worries me more is that some young gullible fucker lurking these threads might actually treat your bullshit statements as truth and get himself killed.
Porsches aren’t easy cars to drive. You have to be really experienced on driving one depending on what model. And that was a Carrera GT one of the greatest cars they created
The only good thing about the porche Carrera is the engine. not its location….but that it whistles instead of roars.
Can anybody tell me why it makes that distinctive sound?
Did you read his question dumb shit?
The intake is just one part of the sound.
He said the engine whistles doesn’t roar like other cars
the porche is a 5.7 ten cylinder NA engine DOHC, with less overall displacement per cylinder which results in higer rev’s to reach max power.
now compare that to the 6.2, not 6.3 cylinder V8 Mercedes naturally aspirated engine DOHC, with more displacement per cylinder.
You need more air for the Mercedes than the Porche because there is more space inside each cylinder than the Porche. So your intake theory is fuckig moot dumbshit. YOu need more air for the Mercedes. It produces more power more torque, and has more displacement per cylinder which means it needs more fucking air. So why doesn’t the fucking mercedes have that whistle sound?
Please do explain why the larger intake on the mercedes not produce a whistle that is noticable outside the vehicle. Fucking dumb shit.
you said its the intake that gives it a high pitches sound
I said no.
Your theory/idea as to why it sounds high pitched is irrelevant and wrong. That’s not why the car sounds the way it sounds.
this is your explanation
And it’s fucking wrong.
thanks for refuting my points and saying im full of shit without saying why im wrong and preventing my information from killing people by feeding them the correct answers. Keep crying and mocking me bitch. It’s all you can do. Just like the little kid in your Avatar, all you can do is point fingers make stupid faces and mock…
uh…sorry man, I guess I shoulda mentioned beforehand that the whistling sound only happens during the higher gears.
thanks for the vids n all and trying to help me understand why that car’s engine whistles but the vids don’t show it in the higher gears. the car would have to be on a circular race track for it to even need to go up to the higher gears.
pulling into and out of a garage obviously its gonna stay in 1st.
but I’m sure what you mentioned about its engine has something to do with it too.
so both you guys are correct.
Edit:
or both completely wrong.
I guess only an automotive engineer would really know.
thx anyway to pedo and okazaki:)
on another note Paul Walker bought a newlywed couple a 9 grand diamond wedding ring out of kindness and not publicity coz he told the jewelers to keep his gift anonymous.
this is the book we used in a class I took for Automotic Repair since it explained how things worked and then you where supposed to learn how to diagnose…
And there was another one by Carrol Shelby called Tunning to Win
It’s not as professional, but it shows some insight as to how things work in a race car and why they do the things they do. Granted it’s an old book, some principles do apply becasue a lot of cars still use the same technology. Just diffrent variations, but it helps a lot when trying to understand car dynamics and how they work in real world situtuation.
wasnt carlton from fresh prince reported to be dead. they’re playing with papparazzi, theyre going to have one of those non verbal bad acting WWE moments at a movie award to take the piss
