Yea it does work just fine when you switch the restrictor plate to 4-way. But the problem with the Q4 is you have to take the bottom off every time you want to switch it with the stock stick. So I’ll play Super Pac man and Donkey Kong or whatever uses 4 way but then I’ll want to play some other game and there is no easy solution. Well there is just not with stock parts. But it does work fine 4 way. You can still hit Diagonals but you almost have to try to do it. It’s hard. I’ve not felt like it’s been the controller if a mistake is made in pac man. And sped up Ms Pac Man and Super Pacman you’re moving really fast so very fast turns are key. It happens so rarely now that I can’t tell if it was me or the rare diagonal.
Wish I could easily switch between 8 and 4 to give a game or two of Samurai Showdown a go right after hassle free. So I think along the lines of Ultimarc J-Stik (Japanese) Ball-Top (Sanwa JLW-TM-8 type) or Mag-Stik Plus Ball-Top. I’m not sure which would work best but switching stock Q4 is a chore as I said. Even if you leave the bottom off the thing the stock restrictor plate in how it switches you pretty much have to remove it and put it back on to switch. I’ve not switched it back out of 4 way mode because Super Pacman was one of my favs and you just can not even begin to play that game on a modern controller. So the 8 way games I use my xbox one controller hooked to my pc all the time anyway and use it. Which in itself defeats the point of having one of these arcade stick setups…so haven’t figured out best solution yet. I been working on setting up a proper MAMEUI setup getting much as I can ROMS working.
I still wish I had the old style arcade concave buttons too. I really do.
