I agree, the design isn’t that cool, but it opened my eyes and made me realize that Jaegers should all have cool weapons a la the chain sword,Striker’s dagger things, and Crimson Typhoon’s saws.
I know it’s a common complaint, but I wish we got to see Typhoon go to work, that design is soooo sick (my favorite at least, the colors, legs,saws, head) and he just gets fucked instantly. They show the Chinese brothers so much throughout the movie but they get no screen time when they’re actually in the mech
Hammerhead is a good idea and all, but I kind of like the idea of internalized weaponry. Carrying two giant hammers could be a little cumbersome; maybe if its hands formed into giant hammer fists… that could be pretty cool.
Why not just carry more GUNS. For all the money invested in jaegers, how come the artillery was so ‘weak’. I’d be pouring money into fatal rifles and a Kaiju killing net to cover the rift with.
Speaking of tactics (nitpick nerd time), I think the jagers could have benefited from some air support. Have a squadron of drones harass or distract the Kaiju long enough for the jagers to get into position or whatever.
Also lining the breach with mines with the equivalent TNT of a MOAB would definitely put a dent in the Kaiju onslaught.
Back to the support helicopters that were supposed to be backing up Gipsy Danger, they failed miserably at their jobs when the lost a 300 foot monster in the middle of the city.
Flare gun: I could see the kaiju not seeing the flare because it was just so freaking tiny by comparison. Like Unreal said, do you actually see the fly or gnat that kamikazes your retina? Hell no. Same thing applies here.
Finally saw it, thought it was alright. Very very enjoyable movie to actually watch on big screen with 3D and all.
Few things I wished I had seen:
More Cherno. Seriously, the only time other jaegers were displayed, they get destroyed in less than 5 mins… At least show some flashbacks or something.
More weapons maybe? The ship/hammer and the sword were cool but outside the plasma gun I only saw the rockets thingy. I know the asian jaeger had the blades but he got 2HKO’ed.
2 jaegers fighting one kaiju at once. I thought that’s how the last kaiju was gonna be taken down.
Those were my only nitpicks. Good stuff otherwise, good pace, down to action, simple movie with good effects.
the only thing i didnt like about the movie was the tandem pilot thing. Black guy lone wolfed his mech back in the day, they shoulda came up with an excuse to get the main char in his own mech too as the asian chick took up valuable ass stomp time!
From what I remember from references to the pre-movie comic, he did that in one instance because his tandem pilot passed out while they were linked due to radiation sickness.
He DID still have to defeat a kaiju on his own though, I’ll give you that.
all you cancerous dudes that think Rinko Kikuchi is hot need to check out a movie called Babel. she puts on an amazing performance*. also Brad Pitt is in it.
*pay attention to what i wrote. pay attention to the asterisk. go watch that movie. real talk, made me feel like i got maced by the time it was over. RK is easily one of the best J-Actresses on the planet.
