PACIFIC RIM 2

Best news all year!

At the bolded: It passed the Bechdel test(at least one scene in a movie where at least two women that talk to each other about something other than a man.) in spirit(was close enough, IMO), unlike nearly all movies ever, literally.

At the italicized: Define in non-vague, and logical reasons what was wrong with PR’s story and/or characters. All of that was pretty well done, all things considered, contrary to what popular opinions/bought critics would shill at viewers.

Better characters?

Than the irrelevent humans who essentially do fuck all except nearly fuck themselves then try to unfuck themselves yet take up far more screentime than the monsters everyone came to see?

Better than Lieutenant Boring looking for Nurse Boring with little Boring in tow?

Shit man, Pacific Rim isn’t going to win any awards for story but anything can blow Godzilla out of the water on those points for fucking free, Pacific Rim included.

The concept of 2 pilots and how they were driving the Mechs was corny as fuck. Hopefully in 2017 you dont need 2 pilots that are mentally linked to pilot. Whoever made that design choice needs to not be brought back to the creative process.

Oh and 2014 Godzilla would body these lame ass mechs.

look at this nigga getting roflstomped. SMH. Thats some low tier shit.

And this thread is how you know this movie appeals to non-westerners.

Viewers are morons, too.
Thanks for the demonstration, folks.

Dude, you’re using the wrong one

ODE TO JOY PLAYS

I’ve said it before in the OG thread and I’ll say it again, I want all of this shit to happen in future sequels.

Guillermo better get started early B!

lol fuck y’all. That movie had awful fight scenes. i went in there, all hype, and was disappointed. SLOW ass fucking fights, where most of the time it was like watching a boring boxing match. Only instead of boxers, they were using dim witted fat kids. Then a random weapon would get used sometimes. Oh hey i forgot we have this incredibly versatile sword that doesn’t require ammo and can chop off fucking kaiju limbs and heads easily. Silly me. Tee hee. Gimme rapid fire machine gun punches, and a fuckton more weapons.

Godzilla showed how you make giant monster fights happen, albeit, with a slow leadup. You start with a chokeslam, and you end with nuclear fire breath. I bet dollars to blowjobs that MechaGodzilla will shit all over any Jaiger nonsense out there. GET BODIED YOU DUAL PILOT FUCKING SHITTY TOY!

And yes, the script for Pacific Rim was hilariously poorly done.

I’m not saying I hated the movie by any means. But if I want cheesy lame sci fi, I’ll stick with Starship Troopers.

It has boobies.

Starship Troopers was awesome man wtf. Storywise Pacific Rim was terrible as shit but I still enjoyed it more than Godzilla if only for the action. Actually I dont know if I truly believe that I mean they had their points but Godzilla was fucking horrible but PR had a few better moments.

What is your point about it passing the Bechdel test? My point was that it’s hollywood and it’s always the white man and the asian girl.

Story didn’t exactly suck, but I thought the idea of how to control the robots was dumb. It was also too convenient that the main dude and girl would be able to link together. I don’t recall it being explained why. He goes from having perfect link with his bro, to having it with a random girl he meets. The characters… idk they are ok I guess. The robots were all forgettable though.

And yeah, don’t hate on Starship Troopers… that movie was golden for it’s time. There hasn’t been any movie like that that I know of that’s as good.

Nope.

You cannot use that against that movie when you defend Godzilla’s atomic breath withholding ass.

And there were no fights in Godzilla 2014 that were faster than the PR fights, at all, you can go find them and compare.

Hell after seeing both movies twice i’d say the Godzilla fights were slower paced.

And even with that, how fucking fast do you expect giant monsters and robots to fight? they aren’t going to be throwing out any quick jabs or anime karate kicks or anything.

You know why it’s white man asian woman? That’s what is seen as an ok interracial couple. Yes they didn’t do the kisst hing (thank god) but point is look at the trends and the market. A movie about giant robots and monsters. You need an asian woman. A man won’t work cause of how then that can alienate western audiences. Plus sad to say how many asian men get lead roles in movies that aren’t martial arts? Same applies to Hispanic/Latino leads. If the male isn’t white then for most movies it will not be right.

There is some scientific basis on the whole two-brains-are-better-than-one thing.

Anyways I welcome a sequel. There is plenty of room for improvement in all areas so I hope Guillermo really kills it.

The interracial couple thing is a non-issue because del Toro has specifically said they wanted to avoid a couple relationship between Mako and Raleigh, so that’s not where that’s going.

I mean sure, they could change that in a sequel, but I hope they don’t make that mistake.

Any of you that honestly thought there was a romantic relationship in pacrim are the people always scratching their heads at being friend zoned

so to disprove my theory that PR1 was mostly just CGI boxing, you show me a video of CommieBot punching Leatherface in the head? o.0

PR1 took giant mechs and kaiju’s, and made them rockem sockem robots.

I expect…nay, I DEMAND, that PR2 takes advantage of the fact this is giant monsters/mech’s we are talking about, and goes all out.

You know why PR was boxing/wrestling matches? Because that’s SPECIFICALLY what they were going for. They even referenced martial artist’s stances in the robots.

But to call it “just CGI boxing” is like completely missing the point of what’s so fun about non-super-futuristic mecha. It’s the scale, it’s seeing the gears move, it’s the loudness, it’s the weight of the impacts. “CGI boxing” is literally the best way to show that. I mean this was a movie that reference luchadores, mazinger, and sports movie plot development. You can listen to del Toro’s commentary and he himself will say it was all on purpose, and it wasn’t even done tongue in cheek or anything. The movie is just honest love for giant robots and giant monsters.

If you don’t care about those things, then you just aren’t really into Japanese style mecha, and that’s fine! But the movie is not bad, or boring, or lacking, or badly paced, or badly written just because you weren’t it’s target audience.

The movie isn’t perfect, but it’s definitely not “just CGI boxing”
