Speed is ok as long as it still looks weighty. At that point you can easily chalk it up to technological improvements. I think that aspect is fine in the trailer
I definitely agree that it seems like it’s trying to be more campy, which is kind of a shame. I liked the somewhat serious tone of the first. Like, it’s not like it was never campy, but you could actually tell that the Kaiju were a very real threat to that world
In short, if you liked the first movie and aren’t expecting much “depth” you’ll probably enjoy this. If you didn’t you will be better off seeing something else.
I personally enjoyed it, but it falls short of the first movie. It’s pretty much a better Power Rangers movie.
Well you aint giving us much hope man. The last PR movie was actually pretty good in a dorky no fucks given kinda way, ill still check it out, good stream pending.
Oh it’s still a dorky sci-fi movie, it’s just more of the Saturday morning cartoon type adventure than the more grounded approach that the first movie had. The one thing that this one lacks was the overall sense of scale.
While the kaiju and Jaegers are huge, it never felt like they they were really the size that they were. The camera work doesn’t do a whole lot to convey that to the audience.
Just saw the second Pacific Rim movie…disappointing. Not as good as the first.
The sequel also makes the mistake of focusing on character development too much. When the lack of character development was part of what made the first movie so good. Because we didn’t show up for character development with a lovable, rag-tag group of misfits damnit. We paid to see giant robots fighting giant monsters!!!
The first movie understood this. We did have some focus on the human characters but, it was’nt dwelled upon. They gave us juuuuuust enough for us to know them and their motivations and, then went back to the giant robot/giant monster action.
Most of the BORING parts of the second movie were of character interaction. Blehh. It was too much. I legitimately “zoned” out a few times.
And for the Giant Robot/Giant Monster action…ehhhh…some of it was cool. But a lot of it felt overdone, like watching a Transformers flick. The robots were too ummmm, “agile” also. The first movie was good about having the robots move quick but, not too fast, so we still retained that sense of their lumbering mass. The Yeagers in this movie were too light on their feet and hoppy. Like it said, it was like watching a Transformers flick sometimes.
Jon Boyaga is great. Even though i thought his character was stupid and annoying at times, he still has legit charisma. His speech at the end was surprisingly decent. Scott Eastwood does a Good, young Clint Eastwood impersonation. Just needs to add more “gruff” to his voice. Scott would make a damn fine New Wolverine also, if no one else better shows up.
I also cringed when they started playing the battle theme from the first movie, like it was supposed to be epic. Yeah, no. This movie didn’t earn it and no fight scene topped any of the awesomeness of the first movie either.
Honestly, this one just made me want to go back and watch the first movie again. The first movie hit almost every check-mark needed on the badass list. The second was just “alright”. Hopefully the 3rd entry is better.
