Allow me to present you with a conundrum
A close friend of yours just tells you that his grandfather has died in a recent car accident. Obviously this friend is quite shaken up about the incident; his countenance that of a ghostly demeanor and his eyes red, most likely from crying recently. Now, keep in mind that you have never met this friend’s grandfather nor have you even heard him speak a word of him before now. Yet, using your God given ability to comprehend and use context clues, even though he hasn’t told you his feelings on the matter, you can easily ascertain the fact that he is indeed shaken up about this. So, naturally, what do you do? Well, hopefully the answer is this: console. You relate to this person and share in the mourning experience not through personal conviction, but to simply show that it is indeed an unfortunate scenario and that you are trying your best to understand the situation from his perspective.
Now. Because you are now mourning with this friend, does that mean you knew his Grandfather as well as the friend did? No. And because of this shared period of grief, does this also in turn mean that you are a faker/poser for sharing in this mourning? Again, no. Because you’re not claiming to have known this person for all these years, but rather you just have the basic ability and capacity to understand when something big has happened.
So bringing this topic back down to Earth…no. I did not know Dander very well. After all, I’ve only been on this site for close to 2 years. But I’ve been able to recognize his part in the 3S community, and it’s always a bummer to see people quit these things.
