I think a ranbat would be great. $5 buy in is probably good for Ottawa. Any higher and it’ll have to be called a high rollers.
What format were you thinking? The tournament style one that Andy ran (Which was awesome of him for doing) worked but seemed really hard to organize and run as it got later in the night. The round robin style that Yang tried a little while ago seems a bit more flexible and I have a big thing of large grid paper we could use for it. Maybe we could put everyone who wants to join in’s names on it and have the scores from whoever wants to play added in each week. This way it might not be as bad if people need to leave or play other games as the night goes on.
Still most of you know a lot more about different formats and things than I do so feel free to suggest better things
Yo, if anyone is ordering off of focusattack or has any octagonal gates let me know.
I’d like to buy some gate inserts but at $1.95 with $9 shipping I’d rather not. I’ll chip in on shipping.
I used to post on DL when I was more active in the BB scene, SF4 is my main game for sure. GGs, looking forward to playing you again, in either game.
I’d be so down for a ranbat. Also, thoughts on organizing FT5 exhibition matches as well? It’s a popular practice in Toronto, it’s a great way to practice playing under high pressure situations. Side bets make it hype too
The best method is still just running a straight bracket. And I think Ultra is new enough (and we have enough new players) that people are willing to play a full bracket every week. Especially if we start early enough.
I am willing to run them again too. It’s not a problem if the interest is there. Maybe Verbal can bring his new stream station too.
I know my former group is now doing a ranking battle system that is called “Power rankings”.
It’s just a list of players ranked in order. Once a week you can play the person above you to switch spots with them. If you win you can play the next person above you on the list.
It’s just a simple ladder format but it works and prevents long drawn out brackets.
The sets get longer as the climb the ladder too. So if you are playing for the #8 spot you just play a FT3. If you are playing for the #2 spot you play a FT7.
Trouble only arises with attendance. But you drop down the list if you miss two weeks in a row. There are more rules I can post later if people are interested.
With attendance being the biggest issue for us, that sounds like a more feasible idea than having brackets done for 4/8 weeks.
Are you allowed to advance as much as you can play though, or is there a limit? If you’re trying to jump up from #9 to #8 and you lose, are you allowed to play the person during the same session until you win?
You start at the bottom of the list and work your way up the ladder. If you keep winning you can keep climbing. If you successfully defend your spot from someone below you get to fight the person above you.
