Ottawa Thread 2013

after carefully examining the ranbat results and consulting with several other professionals in the field, i’ve concluded that hash is omega free.

Yo. Sorry for being a flake about this. Feedback is important. My time has been kind of being tossed up between Mid-term projects and this event. Is this a more likable tournament schedule? I know it’s dense, but we have enough setups to run concurrent games (I hate saying the words “Concurrent Games”… but what can you do? :S)

Noon - SFxT
1pm - Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition v.2012
2:30 - UMvC3
3pm - Soul Calibur V, Smash Brothers Melee
4pm - P4A
5pm - Guilty Gear, Smash Brothers Brawl
6pm - BlazBlue CSE
7pm - Tekken Tag Tournament 2

Yo Bruce, your old schedule was pretty much bang on the spot.
The evening schedule for AE/Marvel was great since most HQ regulars for those games don’t show up until the evening (at least on weekdays)
On my list, swap Persona and TT2 based on feedback.

My Opinion:
Noon - Brawl
1:00 - Melee
2:30 - Soul Calibur
3:00 - TT2, BlazBlu
4:00 - Persona
5:00 - GG, SFxT
6:00 - AE
7:00 - UmvC3

Also if there’s room, add some KOF, 3rd Strike, and Skullgirls so the single-tournament entrants have more games to play.
I can help supply games if you’re missing any, digitally or physically on Xboc (including DOA5/MK but it won’t come to that).

Well, everyone I talked to seemed to want Capcom earlier on in the day. :S

Also, my KOF disc is no longer with us. It got a nice big crack in it somehow.

If anyone has discs, especially AE discs, please bring them. I have one copy of almost everything but KOFXIII and DOA. I’ll probably pick up an extra AE disc myself this week.

If that’s what they say, then go for it!
Also, I can bring a copy of KOF with me. No AE though.

Noon - SFxT
1pm - Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition v.2012
2:30 - UMvC3
3pm - Soul Calibur V, Smash Brothers Melee
4pm - Tekken Tag Tournament 2
5pm - P4A, Smash Brothers Brawl
6pm - BlazBlue CSE
7pm - Guilty Gear

Moving Tekken around makes sense. Anyhow. Here’s the pending list, I suppose. If anyone has any feedback tomorrow I’ll give it one more switcheroo and throw it down the channels.

I won’t be there if capcom is early like that. Pretty sure most people would prefer it later as well, especially the people travelling from out of town.

This. The old schedule was perfect. Capcom games are usually held later than everything else.

If you’re running it that early then:

  1. Don’t expect anyone from Toronto (not that I’m saying they’d come anyway, but something to keep in mind for the future)
  2. Expect Montreal to be at least a few hours late… though this will probably happen regardless.

The schedule for Capcom games are too early; players for those games are probably going to be late for them anyhow. Expect things to run longer than planned and give yourself some leeway to adjust.

I have to say that I think for best results, Smash Bros and like, Soul Calibur should be the first 3 at least. And probably SFxT after that. I mean, I’ll be there whenever anyway, but I can’t speak for TO or MTL, though I do know Smash is trying to have some MTL people come down and house them prior. Which reminds me, Melee was asking how many setups to bring, and I said I’d clarify with you Krackatoa, but I told them I’d guess 5 and TVs or something depending on how fast they wanted it to go and how many they had.

But hey, I’m just an old guy getting confused on where exactly the whole thing’s going to be anyway since the signups are listed as where we normally go, and “by the consoles”, but I think the venue is listed as somewhere else.

Yeah, I’m not too big on this new schedule either. That’s a lot of waiting around for the games I wanted to play, so I might have to skip out on Capcom.

Leave Tekken @ 4 plz. Anyone i dont know thinking of entering tekken?

Even though I blow chunks at it, I’ll probably enter Tekken just to say I did. Also, I can bring my copies of KOFXIII, BBCSX, P4A, TTT2, SCV and anything else you might need for anything that’s run on PS3 (if people for instance decide last minute (let’s do MK9 despite the fact it takes 10 minutes to load at first!). I know Capcom’s going to be run of 360 though, but if anybody entering a PS3 game needs a spare PS3 pad brought in, I can provide one, as long as it gets back to me.

Alright. Thanks for the input guys.

Anyhow. Algonquin meetup is tonight. We have more patched consoles now, on top of more consoles thanks to the glorious Taek so AE and Marvel are a go.

Same Bat Time, Same Bat Channel.

e206b in the Student Commons. 6pm onwards. Monday and Tuesday.

If it’s not too late for inputs regarding the tourney schedule on Saturday, what do you think of AE and Marvel getting (at least) 2 hours time slot? Say…

6pm - AE
8pm - Marvel

or vice versa

6pm - Marvel
8pm - AE

Also do you need help setting up the stations? If so I’ll try to be there before 9 unless I get caught in traffic.

Truthfully, I suspect that since things will likely wind up going possibly a bit later than expected they might wind up getting at least 90 minutes regardless.

Having the capcom games super late is actually a very foolish decision as I brought up to Bruce and why he brought them to the times he did. But he went a little farther in the direction then I had anticipated. Your most popular games need to be mid day to accommodate the bigger brackets. Now that in mind you would likely want to have cap com games running just after Anime and Smash as per the norm. This is not a two day tournament like most majors you fellas are used to going to, this is a one day event and to cram all these games in is going to be a tough ordeal. My suggestion is to shuffle brawl and anime above capcom and run the rest in sequence. Also having all these games on the list is somewhat ridiculous and i have already suggested that the smaller communities have side tournaments run for a Minimum 8 person bracket. That all being said I will post a suggestion schedule for both scenarios.

Here is my suggestion, please forward your feedback to myself and Bruce, we will talk about it.

Noon - SSBB
1pm - P4A / Guilty Gear / (depending on numbers this can be shifted)
2:30 - Blaz Blue / Smash Melee
3pm - TTT2
4pm - SSF4AE
5pm - SFXT
6pm - UMVC3
7pm - (Floater Slot / Over Flow)

The above schedule is how I would slot out time in the event that all these games brought at least a 8/16 man bracket

How the schedule should look IMHO is like this

Noon - Door opens , Casuals / Last Minute setups and prep
1pm - Casuals End,
1PM - SSBB /(floater slot GG / SC5 )
2pm - P4A / Blaz Blue (floater slot Melee)
3pm - SSF4AE
4pm - TTT2
5pm - UMVC3
6pm - Dedicated Side Tournament slot (floater slot SFXT / MK) Finishing up Capcom and TTT2
7pm - (Floater Slot / Over Flow)

On this schedule you have time for a major side tournament should one crop out of the darkness, the rest can be intersparced through out the day depending on number of entrants (My doubt on which ones will get 8+ and no offence to those communites if you bring the numbers the side tournament happens of course : (Guilty Gear, Smash Melee, Soul Calibur, MK, SFXT).

Any feedback is greatly appreciated and hope that we can all agree on something and Bruce can set this up. I apologize Bruce if you got the wrong idea from the discussion we had.

Thanks!

Is SSBB more popular than SSBM? I occasionally dabble in the Melee DK (y’all dont know bout that Banana Slamma) and dont touch Brawl. If I place top 3, it will be hilarious.

Myles has the right idea with scheduling I think, but 6:00 would be better than 5 for UMVC3, to give out-of-towners more time to organize and get down.

Nowadays, Melee is actually more popular than Brawl I believe. Either way, I’ve always felt the first two games should be the Smash ones with GG/SCV as the next ones if needed. Then you can do Blazblue, then P4A, then KOFXIII if needed, SFxT if needed, then finish out with TTT2, AE2012, and Marvel. Of course, granted I’d personally rather Blazblue and Persona AFTER SFxT, but I’m a realist and know that likely won’t be the case. This is also worth noting that my suggestion comes from me hearing that a bunch of the expected out of town Smash players are apparently coming on the Friday so they would already be in the city.

Ultimately I’m not really in that much of a position to try and suggest things since I’m trying to answer questions from the Smash community, and varied other questions people are having such as “what systems will these be for?”, “are hitboxes and keyboards permitted?”, and other stuff along with varying other things such as stream/parking info and on whether there’ll be commentary. So uh yeah, take the input as you will.
