I just realized im a scrub when it comes to doing dp motion on a stick >.> . i cant even do 10 in a row without fucking it up atlest once lol…
I’m sure I’m FAR scrubbier than you (I wouldn’t even contemplate entering a for realz money tournament) but the best advice I got for doing the DP on a stick was to think of it as a tap forward followed by a fireball rather than a Z motion.
that can give you bad habits. it’s really not that difficult to tap forward and ride the gate to down then stop at down forward… or even better tap forward let go of the stick and go down and down forward (clean dp)
In games like marvel u cant front qcf to dp it will come out as qcf lol u really need to front then down and stop at down foward lol i know i really checked it out in detail. U can however front then ride the botom of the gate from back to front but that feels like wasted motions to me.
Well whatever I’m doing currently has been my successful technique for both AE and Marvel ever. I was previously told to do it as a Z motion but my success was spotty (I was probably missing the down or down forward part) and when I failed I usually just got the button and not a QCF. Once someone mentioned to think of it more like a tap forward followed by a QCF it just clicked for me and I was instantly having much more success. As I said I’m probably the worst player that posts on this board so do take whatever I post ever with a large grain of salt but thinking about it that way (though probably not necessarily doing the full input) has worked incredibly well for me, it really was a night and day thing for me.
I’ll turn on the input display next time and see what my actual inputs are but again when I miss. I still to this day usually just get the button or crouching button, I don’t often get a QCF move as a result from a failed input.

I only started playing on a stick last week and I have been having problems with DP motion as well. Actually, I can do them fine in one direction (char is facing right) but not the other. I gave up on the stick temporarily while learning a new Marvel team (I know, I should just keep at it), though I’m starting to think I should just stick with a controller for 4-button fighters like Marvel and learn to use an arcade stick for Skullgirls and AE (if i pick it up).

Seriously, consider sending one out to everyone who goes to HQ via PM or email. You might get better responses/more info that way. Also HQ open during the weekend would be awesome.

Just picked up my early copy of P4 Arena. I’ll be bringing it to HQ tomorrow.
Totally late on this, but I support the new HQ location.
I dont really think I would want to run it, since I’d be too busy playing Marvel,
and I like thursdays but I think any weekday is better than friday TBH.
Weekend would be cool if it was worth the time investment. Keep in mind that running HQ is sort of a volunteer thing. If it were better handled as a co-op kind of thing (e.g. people cleaned up after themselves, did their own maintenance, etc…) it would be cool to have it open whenever people want but here are the challenges around that:
- Cleaning. Currently I think the only time(s) HQ has been vacuumed was when I did it. Not a big deal but lolbasement.
- Garbage. That’s up to Johnny currently… feel free to take out the garbage some time. It kind of pisses me off that whenever I show up I see garbage that people had left there when there’s a garbage can at the back of the room and garbage cans on the back porch and that you have to walk past BOTH every time you go outside or leave.
- Time. Right now I’m pretty sure Johnny is the only staff since I’m not really involved anymore. I don’t know how much he’s around but the management aspects alone take time.
- Money. HQ budget is HQ budget. No money goes to whoever is running it. I’m not suggesting that change, in fact I’d suggest it never change, but it’s something to keep in mind.
If HQ was going to be open on weekends we’d need a different location (as is apparently a possibility) and the number of dedicated staff members would need to increase by probably 300%.
Now for a new location… I’m all for this idea. The current location is pretty dingy and frankly I think that alone stops a lot of people from coming out on a regular basis. It’s hot in the summer, cold in the winter, and just dank and creepy all year round. I’d be more than willing to drop $5-10/day on a new venue but I think there needs to be some cost analysis done on it unless some place has volunteered to host us out of the goodness of their hearts.
- Is HQ still sustainable even at $10 a head? Realistically I think that would probably result in about $150 of revenue per week. Honestly the only time I’d really be willing to pay $10 would be for an entire day (or very long evening).
- Is the location central? I think Johnny had mentioned market. That’s awesome, but parking FUCKING SUCKS and busing home late night is basically impossible in this city.
- Does HQ still need to supply it’s own equipment? If so, who is transporting this and how will gas costs be handled? They should be considered a business expense for HQ so the luggage monkey doesn’t get fucked over. Additionally, is someone actually willing to do this on a regular basis?
- What would hours for HQ be like? Would we be looking at a 1-2 evening a week kind of thing, or something closer to CafeID/MTLSF where it’s a dedicated location that will be open whenever anyone can be there?
Id be willing to help out with hq on my free time after work. My work schedual isint too stable tho so i cant have set days to be there and my days off from work im with my gf so i would only be available 4 days a week. Would still be willing to help out where i can tho.

So…I’m chilling in Bayshore today, and I randomly get the urge to check out EB, and now I have AE. Which is weird, since a lot of my hype is directed towards P4A.
Anyways the kids are in dispose tonight. Don’t expect us Lol
On days like Fridays/weekends, yes parking sucks. But every other weekday, parking is not bad in that area.
Busing from the market is actually the best spot in Ottawa to get home late from, since you can get the 85 86 94 95 96 97 98 in both directions.
If we will be owning this spot full-time, then there’s no reason it shouldn’t be open all hours. In fact, if it were a full-time location, we could charge people monthly instead of daily (say, 5-10$?) and even generate more revenue for HQ.
