so you think you are ready…well you’re not, here’s why.

tournaments are places where only the most committed and the most dedicated players come to compete. and MAT is just a sample compared major tourneys like T8. it is a world of fear and chaos. ive been to one, only one and from there i knew that it was no place for me to go, in other words, i didnt belong there…period. you will only be wasting your money and lets not forget totally humiliation that will leave you bitter/hurt. in fact, J Wong humiliated me and i didnt even play him in anything. but what i dont understand is why do ppl that i’ve warned not to cuz you just cant win, still want to compete? i mean you are competing with players that have been played fighting games longer than they can remember, playing almost everyday or whenever they have the opportunity. seriously, how many of you remember playing old fighting games like sf2, fatal fury, art of fighting, fighters history, world heroes, tekken, xmen, etc. old school games gives you better fundamentals than any of the newer gimmicky games. and for all pro players, learning old school first covers all of the important bases. another thing to know are their attitudes. you try to be friendly, comment about fighting game related stuff, or even say something funny that wont fly then its all over. because to them, you are nothing more than a wall. im telling you, there are nothing but heart of stones, only there to compete, and awaiting for their next challenge. have you ever noticed how Steve, Jay, Jon, Yang, and Shen behave when they play, lemme tell you imo. Steve and Jay just look intimidating with their silence, Jon is a funny guy but his fighting skill is soo sharp that you’ll maybe think twice about fight him again, and Yang and Shen are the biggest trash talkers that i will have ever faced and seriously make you hate the game for good. anyways, they’ve been to places and fought many battles so if anything, you should ask for their opinion if anyone is considering on going to MAT or whatever. and lets not forget about the ranbats on where we stand against everyone. so in conclusion, beat everyone in the community, practice often, and know all the basic fundamentals/strategies (ie. match ups, set ups,etc.), then you might have a chance for the big leagues.

i remember the time when Ryad was fighting top players upon our visits to mtl. back then, i believed in him like he was the chosen one cuz back in the day when we were having get togethers playing 3s, his skills were amazing and for once i wanted to see those skills put to the test. when that day came, i was glued to the screen expecting to see an amazing fight. but suddenly, to my surprise, i wasnt seeing a fight, i was seeing a massacre. i mean there was this one fight where his Akuma look like a scared little boy while the other Akuma was flying all over the screen like he was using Spiderman and it was getting me all confused. i was like “…word? Ryad is losing?”. now most of us know how good he plays with Akuma, and im not going to begin to talk about his knowledge of the game(read his thread if you think im joking). but on that day, Ryad got is ass worked…think about it before you compete, go for the ranbat and see where you stand before you sign up. hope that clear things up, if not…good luck… cuz you’re gonna need it.

How come it doesn’t work on P-groove. Man I kinda gotta save sellin my cards for my next credit card bill. And how come that shit doesn’t work on P-grove. Is it cuz theyll go for the down parry?

Yea. Down parry works no matter what side you land on…this is when I started using S.Fierce but really I should be using (close 2-hit) S.Strong because you can hit confirm that into super no problem. If you set it up right (meaty - after a knockdown ot after kick super) it’s actually much better for the P Groove player to try and block then go for a parry.

When I first went to Mtl to play CvS2 (just less than a year after the game came out) - I got raped. The first tournament I played in - I lost, won, lost (out). After that I started to do better and better…

It’s important to experience how good other players are…otherwise you’re just prolonging your development in the game. Playing in Ottawa will only get you so far because 1) we are not experienced enough competitively 2) Many players don’t grasp the basics.
Knowing the system…all the combos…the frames…is only the start point. Experience allows you to understand and get accustomed to all the set-ups and mind games : which is what makes the game. Experience against good players teaches you how to use them effectively. Value your time and games against players like Dave, Dee, Steve and even…maybe…in the slightest…Traian - they will teach you the intangibles of the game because of their experience in other games.

Thats the recent Japanese list of the matchups and tiers. Dudley is high mid and Urien is up there too but not top tier. Only tops are Yun, Ken, Chun Li, and Makato.
