the episodes were released at least 6 months apart… I mean they look good, but not 6 months worth of work good… more so, the story has already been done, so wtf are they doing?

i JUST finished watching Darker than Black, which was very stylized and overall pretty bad-ass.
The OVA is gonna be amazing.
I finished Seirei no Moribito a while back, which was similarly stylized but overall I felt lacking in terms of likeable characters beyond Balsa and devoid of a real antagonist (otherworldly demon crabs? wtf is this, Tekkaman?) Don’t get me wrong, it was quite good, but hey.
I’m presently giving Gundam 00 a go if for no other reason than it is more explicitly an allegory for contemporary politics than any other Gundam series has been… it’s aight too.
There’s no real Ghost In the Shell: Stand Alone Complex caliber show currently in production, sadly (that stands as my top choice/ the G.O.A.T series animated or otherwise)…
I read more than I watch.
Oh and watch Claymore if you must watch something instead of read it (I recommend reading it, as a manga it’s absolutely fantastic, as a series it’s pretty damn good but nowhere close to the book).
As far as reads are concerned, if you haven’t read them already, Battle Angel and Battle Angel Last Order are amazing, the aforementioned Claymore, and for god’s sake SHAMO (omg this shit is the bomb). Kennichi is funny as hell but i haven’t had time to REALLY get into it. Bleach and Naruto go without saying (as manga… PS good read on the no-cyclops, Napalm).
If you like comedy and don’t mind SOME fan service, Full Metal Panic and FMP:TSR are pretty sick. They work better as manga IMO but that’s just me. The production values are pretty friggin good. Death Note is aight in either format but I find it gets retarded after the first half of the series. Once again just my opinion.
But yes cosign on the lack of quantity WRT good series :’( my general rule is to watch anything Production IG makes.

Agreed about seirei… good series overall and I enjoyed the scenic art, music and what sparse action it contained thoroughly, but by no means a masterpiece… had a shit load of potential too and that makes it even more unforgivable.
I also whole-heartedly agree about GiTS setting a very high standard in terms of production, plot creating and atmosphere. Simply, a masterpiece. I very much enjoyed their inquests into the nature and behaviour of the psyche and soul, and the interactions within society and the forces that shape it. And it seemed fitting that people who were making these insights were people who had to/ended up breaking up most of their ties with society, save a few, hence had an outside view. They were also very adept at immersing their audience into their realm, especially when they provided seemingly minute pieces of information (like the newly acquired diseases related to the cyber-modification of the human body and terrorist organization bent on preventing modifications on the human body etc). Not to mention amazing action scenes, political power struggles and personalities. I enjoyed all of the movies and series, and it is all due to GiTS that I always placed very high expectations for every IG production.
I watched claymore. It was good but it seemed incomplete. I suppose it didnt give the manga proper representation… as many a series fails to do.
I dont do a lot of manga reading. But I will try and pick up the ones you mentioned. The only ones I really read were Berserk and Immortal Blade. I read many others but many failed to draw me in.
I will try FMP as you aren’t the only one to recommend that to me. I dont mind too much fan service as long as it is freakin hilarious. School Rumble is an example.
