Oro's Unblockables?

i’m quite new to unblockables and Oro in general, but i’ve gotten these results on Ryu.

  • if Ryu holds towards the yagyou as he gets up and the roundhouse doesn’t come, Ryu blocks a few of the yagyou’s hits but gets hit by it eventually.
  • if Ryu blocks the yagyou and the roundhouse is mistimed (late; after 3 yagyou hits are blocked), the roundhouse is blockable.

so from what i see you have to get the roundhouse in before the yagyou hits more than 3 times.

but i’m not sure what you mean. if you could clarify, maybe i’ll test some more.

does mp launcher, ex sdp, jab yagoudama create an unblockable? It seems to work on ChunLi at least when she doesn’t tech roll.

also if you complete a mp launcher and then do strong yagou and then do a jab yagou and then get to the other side somehow you got yourself another unblockable setup - doubt its to useful except maybe against Hugo and the twins since you can’t juggle them as well or even the shotos so you don’t risk messing up the chicken combo.

Well now i have tried doing the shoto unblockable in training with auto guard and it doesn’t seem to work. worked on hardest enemy in arcade mode tho. strange.

I’ll take all of this into account when I get my hands on that PS2 later this week. Thanks.

I used Blocking Training on the PS2 version (Guard Judgement set to Old) and recorded myself doing an unblockable sequence. Afterward, I simply replayed it and tried to block my own recording. Thus, Oro’s execution and positioning is exactly the same every time, giving me a control in the experiment.

The first frame is what happens when the stick is left at neutral; this shows that the unblockable was timed perfectly. In the second frame, the stick was held to the left.

Make of this what you will.

I was about to ask about the unblockable, but this is a nice thread. I seen someone doing the unblockable with an EX fireball. Maybe you should include in your vid.

We are really all looking forward to your vid, JinraiPVC

Yeah… basically ignore the setups above. Most of them need tweaking for timing.

There’s something coming soon to keep an eye on.

ive got some questions: Im finally picking up my Oro again, but seeing these unblockables, is absolutely not the way I see the Japanese do the unblockables… for example Dudley:

chicken combo x2
launch 1hit xx hp super
dash twice
jump up, dj forward
j.mk to guardbreak

If im correct that’s it…

Ow, and another question, the one on Necro you said to jump, jump again, does that mean that the super hits twice? How in the world actually can you see if it hits once or twice, it looks random to me, but I saw a japanese adjust his combo on dudley in kyushu taikai somewhere because he would bounce twice… =/

Don’t pay attention to that long post above, it’s outdated. And just as there’s more than one way to skin a cat, there’s more than one way to guardbreak any particular character. Just experiment for yourself and use whatever works for you.

My current unblockable on Dudley: chicken combo (5 hits) XX Fierce Yagyou, dash once, then either

a) vertical jump, double jump over and do a crossup Forward, or
b) jump over, double jump and do a Roundhouse.

The Yagyou juggles for one hit.

and when do you know when a yagyou hits twice? or does that depend on thde combo you have just done?

i think how many times the yagyou hits depends on how high the opponent was when you hit the 3rd SP of the chicken juggle; if you hit it late (eg low enough to juggle a shoto), it might do a different number of hits than if you hit early (eg shoto not juggled).

There are three factors: which strength Yagyou you’re using, how deep your last launch is (as glass said), and how quickly you cancel into Yagyou. What you want is to have the Yagyou hit only once so that you have more hits and more leeway to work with when the opponent gets up. On most characters, Yagyou strength alone is enough to make the number of hits consistent. But if the Yagyou is juggling the opponent twice, you should experiment with those three things to make your results more consistent.

W/regular tengu, while they’re waking up, if you do early UOH the rock will hit them on the top of the head while they are ducking and you can press d.lk so both those moves will hit at the same time. I know this because when I did it on chun-li for the win, the win screen slows down and you can see the hit splash where the rock hit her on top of her head, and where I hit here with my d.lk. Is this an unblockable or does rock hit mid to follow uoh making it not unblockable?

Rocks are blockable both low and high, no matter where they connect.

Hmmmm it seems to me that oro, in the right hands is just some damn good, but i dont see him in many match vids, with all these unblockable chains, and for you to need soooo little of a super bar (like 45%)to do 100% to most of the top tiers. Why is he not are real top tier?

Well I think its because the unbloackable take a good deal of practing to get it right, and even then you can mess it up real easy. Where ken’s c.mk xx SA3 and chun’s c.mk xx SA2 is very fucking easy to pull off.

What’s difficult is landing the launch against experienced anti-Oro players. And most unblockable loops won’t work if the opponent is too close to the corner.

Going to bring this thread from the dead here:

I was doing some experimenting for an easy, nearly universal Yagyou setup. This one’s fairly braindead, but requires some vs. testing.

MP -> Chicken -> MP -> Chicken -> MP (cancel 1st hit) xx HP Yagyou, walk forward a few steps, normal jump over their body, jump up (normal), j.RH -> MP, repeat. No dashing required. Difficult to time vs Makoto and Akuma, though.

So Arlieth’s playing around with Oro now? Hehe, nice.

The problem with that setup is that the Yagyou ends up juggling after the chicken combo more than once, which really limits your ability to guardbreak and follow it up. It’s like an Aegis doing 2 hits instead of 5 (one hit to set the unblockable up).

As long as it doesn’t hit more than twice, there’s still room for error. =D Just as long as that j.Roundhouse comes in for the extra meter to come into play.
