Option Selects - Guide and Discussion

How do you practice this is training mode? I set balrog to record a headbutt and tried doing this OS but I’m finding it quite difficult. I also can’t seem to catch chun-li’s back dash using this.

(I also set chun-li to spam back dash and tried to hit her with a Habanero dash to slide, she’s an evasive one)

Yea, like i said it doesnt work against all backdashes. Like chun, rose, few others, the fast ones. It works on most of them though. In training mode, record fuerte doing the OS, then pick the char you want to test against as the main character. Try to escape it in various ways as the recording does it to you. Against some characters this OS is kinda useless, against some others it is extremely powerful.

If the character has a backdash that is too fast, or you don’t have ultra, you can OS low forward instead of the ultra into your slide and it’ll punish the backdash.

In order for this to work you have to time the slide so that it hits very meaty, toward the end of its active frames. A good timing aid, against most characters, if you tortilla throw them, then whiff RH guac, run back a touch, stop, slide, that’s the perfect timing. Timing varies somewhat character to character, so in training mode you have to re-record the fuerte dummy each time you change targets.

The targets that this is most effective on are the ones where the slide is completely safe or relatively safe. There are several characters whose reversals come out slow enough that if you time the slide right, you’ll be able to recover and block if they try to reverse it. Sakura, Viper, Gief(all he can do is ultra, super, and ex spd, you will recover and block green hand), several other ones. For viper, if you slide OS ultra right, then youll ultra her if she backdashes or ex seismo’s, and if she ex burn kicks or hp TK’s, she’ll fly past you and no ultra will come out(because your inputs will be crossed up), you can punish at your leisure. Against rufus, the only thing he can do about this is wake up ultra.

Thanks BlueGuile about that does not work against all backdashes, I think that is better to catch teleports or specific reversals (I use it mainly against balrog when is headbutt happy).

Paper, get Balrog as a main user, then record for example Fuerte doing tortilla and do slide when Balrog is just on wakeup. Then when you are Balrog, do a Headbutt and ultra fuerte autocorrects and catch him.

That autocorrect only works in training mode since the dummy automatically does inputs toward the opponent. Ultra won’t actually come out in a match if rog headbutts, or at least it wont most of the time. You still get free punish though just like normal.

I upladed a video about this OS against Balrog HB.

Paper, in this scenario, I main Balrog and fuerte is the dummy, he does a tortilla, dash and finally OS + slide and I just a EX HB on wakeup.

Uhmm, interesting about auto correct, I need to do more testing and see when does not auto correct.

Thanks again halcyonryu!

PAPER! It’s Dez, the NC player.

that OS is GODLIKE. FYI for every sf4 player in socal there are three balrogs.

Hi Dez, sticking with Fuerte for SSF4?

Also low short is safe to rog’s reversals. It recovers in time to block them. You can meaty low short him on wakeup every time if you want then go into some string ending in a mixup. Or if he blocks meaty slide hitting low short after is completely safe even if he does a headbutt here. But thats a matter for another thread.

Nope, I’m playing the character diago plays. :-p

So with this throw/ex run trick, couldn’t we essentially work armor cancel ultra into there? So you’ll either throw tech, or if the armor absorbs anything you’ll ultra? :bgrin:

Can someone explain a little more this OS? Lot of time that I try to use it, throw comes out, and run does not.

So on wakeup, QCB/QCF + throw + mp all at same time? or how to do it?

I am very interested in that OS, thanks in advance.

You have to do the motion to up-back (or upforward I guess if you’re trying to be ballsy and run at them). Tiger knee style if you will. Something about canceling the startup frames of your jump makes it work. Otherwise you won’t get run.

Thx, I will try it to see if I have better results.

OS are okay, but I don’t rely on them. I just don’t think all of them are practical to begin with.

el cor wouldnt you agree alternating between ex run + tech OS and armor cancel ultra when fuerte is knocked down help fuertes game greatly. i think OS are great on defence and im slowly incorporating some in my offensive game( all i do it os ultra 2 currently).

The armor cancel makes sense because it’s broken and I still laugh that we have something like that. And the armor+throw tech is usable, since it gives us a great escape option, even out of the corner. I’m just saying, be careful with them. A lot of other characters have os and better players know they exist.
