My biggest pet peeve is when you play someone they win a match play like 2 guys in the lobby and leave once they lose before you catch your runback.
You bring a good point about pretty much everything. Although I’d like to say something about that ‘showing mercy’ thing. If the player is obviously not good enough, and struggles to get even a few hits on you, then yeah, of course many players switches to their subs, to give the opponent some fighting chance and make the game more exciting and less one-sided. But I’ve mentioned that, what I was referring to is the occasion, when the match was clearly pretty close, and the opponent happened to win it, and then he just goes straight up to some of his annoying subs or your bad MU or something, and doesn’t pick his main EVER again xD I’d assume they do this, because they know they can lose with their main, and they just want to keep that win for their pride, like ‘I won you the first time, there’s clearly no reason for me to pick my main againts you, not good enough, sorry bitch’ xD
Also about the pressing start thing. Maybe I’m reading too much, yeah, but the example with the epic stare-down at each other for five minutes did happen to me, I’m joking you not xD
Some people do change characters based on how laggy is the match, i.e in 2 bar yellow matches I often switch Akuma to my alt Bison so I’d rage less over lag.
I’ve basically adopted a grace period policy.
I give a player a few rounds to show me they know what they are doing or at least are trying to play the game correctly. If they’ve shown they are just playing stupid I kick them.
I get a ton of hate mail, but I don’t care any more. It’s like if I want to get better myself I need to stop playing the players who refuse to learn. I don’t mind helping a newer player, but I can’t stand playing people who abuse online.
I love all of the kicks I get for still sitting at 800pp, yet I know for a fact that I’m around 3k level, because those are the players I get more of a challenge from and can beat at least half of the time. I simply have not bothered with ranked for almost a year and a half. Either it’s sparsely populated, or most of the connections are sub green. I also don’t like the whole one match and that’s it style of ranked either. You end up learning someone’s gimmicks over longer sets.
I just make my own rooms and sit for ten minutes tops before going back to training mode if no one enters. There’s nothing like sitting through four other games only to get booted when you’re up. I personally never kick someone who’s actually better either. Let them get a 20 consecuitive win streak. It’s better than kicking them after their third win and then the lobby fills up with really bad players. I totally understand why some players leave after 1-3 wins though. They might just not be getting any challenge at all from the room.
Oh god, this so much. I don’t like ranked for this reason. I usually take a game to learn someone’s schtick.
A lot of what you’re talking about (especially switching after 1 win, or kicking after 1 win) is due to the fact that endless mode is shit. People are scared to play their mains which is why they go into endless, it should be called “Endless excuses mode”
Its almost shocking to say it, but if you want to find new competition online, Ranked is where its at. With ranked people are usually playing their mains or a character that they honestly are trying to win with. Unless you know who you’re playing, endless mode is damn near worthless
The problem with ranked is that people dont really learn much from it because of how random it is. Championship mode was the best idea Capcom ever had for the SF4 series, they desperately need to bring that back. I love the idea of possibly only playing people who are on win streaks, and that players are separated based on “skill” level, so if you have 10k points, you wont play/get matched up with anyone who has 15 or 20 until you get there yourself.
