One Piece: Grand Battle Rush Discussion Thread

Hey Guys,

I was tampering with the idea of wave dashing in GBR, but I haven’t found anything yet. So far, I have noticed that if you press jump and then immediatly afterwards you press gaurd to wuick fall you will see the jumping animation, but because it is cancelled, they are almost immediately on the ground.
But again, I have found no good merit for this tactic. If I find anything, I’ll post it.

What do you think is the best character to counter Kiji? Considering that Kiji is at its peak in close-to-mid combat, I’d say Ener. If Kiji tries is all-around freeze Ener can move away and use his Shinku Hadouken, or the homing lightning move…or his jump+weak attack. El Thor works wonders too, I think. Opinions?

Interesting question; there are a few ways to beating Kiji without having to resort to the ‘hidden-character’ method.

-Move around alot; if you can catch him on a miss, take advantage of it. Remember, he has alot of ground attacks that freeze, but they have some lag with them, so utilize the jump button. His A has good priority, so pick someone who has either a quick A+X or an A with better priority, like Bon Clay.

-I would have to say the best character for taking Kiji out would be Crocodile (I may update this later) He may be slow, but you can turn the fight into a battle of attrition. Take advantage of his strength and larger hit box moves.
It also helps that his Desperation move is omni-directional.

Alright, so I’m just going to post some random stuff I find out while playing, as the rebirth of this thread as got me playing this game again.

Nami’s j+X has AWESOME properties; if it is landed, there is literally NO recovery, and you can chain anything with it, even supers. However, you can’t land a desperation, but I’m sure you knew that.

I’m still trying to crack some things about this game, for example:

-Crocodile’s second super (the power drain); how do we get it to do more damage? Right now, it sucks.

-Does Nami’s j+A have any other properties? I would assume that maybe we could have them mix with her X+A super, but I might be wrong.

I’m almost close to unlocking Chopper, Hawk Eyes, Nico & Shanks (how did he get drafted in here?!), then I’ll unlock badass Mr. 2 & Crocodile!

The only thing good about Crocodile’s drain super is that you can change a bit its direction mid-course…I haven’t been able to make that deal more than 500.

About the Kiji-counter: Now that I think about it, Krieg may be the best option. With his r1+x (weak needle machine gun) you can punish any freezing attempt…plus, there’s j+o (the net)

Kyoujin: Nami’s j+x is the one where she whacks downwards with her baton, right? (Not having a gc, I don’t recognize these symbols)

If so, doesn’t she land jumping backwards? That doesn’t seem easy to cancel…or the thunderball one? that one always seemed a lil slow, but then again I never played Nami that much.

Yeah, it is her strong attack; but if you land it, she doesn’t jump back. She just remains standing while the character is still in its damage frames.

I’ve never seen this Special Desperation against Enel; how does it work?

F*CK.

How do you unlock characters?

ROBOTRON: I assume you mean the US version. If so, Gamefaqs’s the way to go…as usual. But I know that you have to complete all the difficulties in Story mode with all chars.

Kyoujin: I think he’s referring to Grand Battle 3, Luffy had a special finisher against Ener there.

BTW, I tried that strategy with Nami, and it worked really well, you were 100% right.
Then I tried the same tactic with other characters, and I think it works with Foxy too, with his arrows. You have to have perfect timing too…he’s not as good as Nami.

Another thing to exploit: If you cam hit your foe with Croc’s j+o (the whirlwind), you’ll notice that Croc gets off before the whirlwind finishes, leaving you plenty room for anything, even the desperate move.

Didn’t know there was a U.S. version. Anyway, its the import.

Story mode? On the import I see:

Fighting mode
VS Fighting mode
Gamble mode
Replay mode
Training mode
Recording mode

I don’t see a specific “Story mode”.

I completed Fighting mode…nothing. I tried “gamble mode” which is a one round mode…when I finally lost, I discovered all the money I had earned was lost. Weird.

I saw Fighting for One Piece on gamfaqs…but there is no “codes” section yet, not even a walkthrough.

OOPS…you know what? I’m in the wrong thread. Sorry.

feels like an ass

Hey don’t sweat it…I heard that you need to buy the secret characters in Fighting for the One Piece. Maybe there’s some treasure option?

BTW, How’s that game? Is it really so “technical” for an anime fighter?

Here’s how to unlock them THE FAST WAY:
1- Beat Story Mode with Luffy, Usopp, Sanji, Nami & Zoro on Hard mode (TRUST me on this one!)
2- Beat Story Mode with Buggy, Smoker (Chaser in US), Krieg, Kuro & Arlong on Hard mode. You should now have unlocked Ms. Sunday/Nico Robbin & Very Hard Mode for Story Mode.
3- Beat the game with Ms. Sunday on Normal or Hard then finish Story Mode with Luffy on Hard or Very Hard difficulty. You will unlock Chopper.
4- Now beat the game with Chopper (any difficulty & plz do bear with VA & the fact that he seems low tier :P) and beat the game again on Very Hard with Luffy. You unlock Shanks.
5- Now beat the game with Zoro on Very Hard to unlock Hawk Eyes (TIP: Beat Story Mode with Shanks first IMO)
6- Now finish Story Mode with Sanji (any difficulty, and I would advise finish’s Hawk Eys’ first IMO) and during the credits input the following:
Hold L1 & Press: X -> X -> Circle -> X-> Left on D pad -> X -> O -> Square -> X -> O -> Triangle -> O -> X -> R1 -> R1-> Left on the D pad
In the above sequence to unlock the one & only Mr. 2!!!
7- FINALLY with all characters unlocked beat the game with Ms. Sunday again and during the credits, input:
Hold L1 & Press:
Down -> X -> Left -> Down -> Triangle -> X -> O -> Square -> Up -> O -> R1 ->Left -> Triangle -> Right -> Square -> R1

You now unlock the deadly Crocodile/Mr. 0!

Hope I’ve helped ;).

BTW is it me or is Chopper’s English VA WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY cuter than it should be?

Its ok…hey for $20…its worthwhile…especially if your a One Piece fan. I just learned that everyone has a grab super…once you grab…you have a few seconds to do up to 5 different regular moves that combines into ONE super move with some pretty fantastic results. Also, depending on your meter…triangle is an “A” groove type super that guard breaks with first hit with several quick hits in succession. Graphics are superb. I rate it a 7.5/10.

Thanx for the info…I have unlocked Smoker and Crocodile…There is an Ice guy, some guy that throws fire w/cowboy hat, another guy that throws lightning and FRANKY!!! I must unlock Franky!!! Chopper is sweet! He fights in hulk mode and can dodge punches by turning small in a split second and then counters. Croc is cheap…hes like Gaira in Naruto.

I’m looking to get the import, but I’m not sure weather to get it for Gamecube or PS2. What do you guys think?

If you want my advice try to get the Jap version.
@ROBOTRON- You’re welcome ;). BTW whoever gave Shanks a British accent should be hanged in public.

I really hope they release another Grand Battle; I have no interest in playing Pirate Carnival and apparenlty Fighting for One Piece is a bucket of smashed assholes.

Has anybody ever played Treasure Battle? It looks great!

The video is kinda old and the topic is kinda old. I’ve been playing this game recently and have been trying to get new opponents for it. However, most won’t play it cause it “looks ugly”. I hate watching my own videos on this game because I see so many simple mistakes and my lack of understanding of the character at the time. I will try to get better matches up soon.

A very small look into some tricks Usopp can do. This is not showing his most damaging combos, just some set ups you might find useful.

Man I miss this game. I have a few matches on my channel as well.

Looking forward to Gigant Battle 2!

I’ve been playing some matches with a decently sized group of people who are learning grand adventure. I have learned a few things about the game, one of them being:

FUCK CROCODILE.
