On the edge of quiting SSFIV

*I can relate to you seeing as I used to main Dan back when SF4 first came out. Like some others have mentioned already unfortunately Dan’s not really a beginner friendly character when it comes to winning matches since his moveset in itself is odd. His normal moves for example don’t really shine until you start to go on your offense but as you’ve noticed it can be really hard for Dan to get close to his opponent. Combine that with at the beginner level where most other characters have something they can rely on be it a gimmick (eg: Vega walldives) or projectile attacks it can be really tedious playing as Dan. The advice I can give you like others have said is to play in endless and try and message some of the better players for advice, you’d be surprised at some of the nice and helpful responses you can get.

You should also go to the “Dan” portion of the SSF4 section on here and ask the other Dan players for help and advice. Lastly while I don’t play Dan anymore myself I’m very glad that I played Dan as my first main character in SF4. When I eventually jumped off that ship to a better character it made me really appreciate what other characters could do after grinding it out so long with what Dan. *

Well you are using Dan… he’s kind of advance just because of his lack of good footsies and mix-ups. Of course people can still win with him, online at least haha. You as a player just need to figure out what options Dan has against those specific situations you listed and you gotta learn to adjust to the opponents playstyle, habits, etc… Easier said than done, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

You’re automatically putting yourself at a disadvantage with Dan, though.

quit
nobody gives a fuck
if you do like the game then you’ll find a way to win eventually

I wonder if there’s an SFIV suicide hotline

why are you using dan lol

Dan is tha man! It’s great to get some wins with him. But everyone else is right about him being a little tough. He has great counters and throws. That’s what I use mostly. His Ultra 1 is better to use as a counter. Ultra II does little damage. I find it only good as a juggle.

  1. If you keep getting caught by the same thing, it’s your fault. I have this problem as well as I just started getting into fighting games. The difference between you and I is that I try to figure out a counter and not just consider quitting or making excuses.

  2. You’re using Dan. Nobody wants to lose to Dan so as someone said earlier, people are more prone to lame out just to ensure a safe victory. Why not use someone more beginner friendly?

  3. Combined with number 2, it’s ranked. You get all types of scrubs who for some reason will do nothing but flowchart just for some BP. It’s frustrating for us lesser-skilled players because we’re still learning the game.

Just play Endless. Either that or watch some of your videos, go to training mode and have the CPU do what you kept getting caught by and learn how to stop it. You should definitely do that with the Vega video, because there’s no reason that should have worked on anyone.

Stop playing ranked for a little while (online in general honestly but anyway) and do endless. For whatever reason it feels people are not as prone to abusing online tactics (punishable moves go unharmed) in comparison to ranked. Could be because only thing you are playing for is to stay on. Also you need to keep in mind of habits that you may pick up in the future such as crouch tech mashing and the example I used previously. This one specifically will get you destroyed if you play offline against anyone who knows how to frame trap. In addition, you may not want to use Dan right out the gate as said before and use someone a bit more gentle(?) like Ryu (he will get you started but by no means is he easy to master IMO).

Ranked is garbage.

No worries, fixed your post.

Still playing Dan but I´m playing alot of guy. I don´t really play ranked alot anymore and this thread can be deleted?

Ranked doesn’t mean anything. Just play endless battle and add people who on your skill level to keep training. I played a few ranked matches for kicks last night and I love how people who are ranked B and above knock their player points down to 400 where I am at just so they think they can beat new players. No reason why my 50bp Viper should be able to beat a 9k Bison or Shoto character. I am not saying I am good at all, it’s very hard to play Viper online when people like to lag their side when they’re losing. Endless Battles is where its at. I met a few nice people and working to fix my game.

pick a better character and keep on trying. thats what i did

Forget Dan he is a gimmick character. If you are really serious about learning then go into training mode and practice combos, links, Your match ups etc. And pick somebody different. maybe like akuma. raging demon there asses. What is your style of character? have you even thought of that ? If its flash and dash go with El feurte …just suggeestions…good luck.

Currently maining Guy and playing fuerte and Dan but my PP has gained big time but weird thing is that I lose more PP if I lose than I gain when I win. Kinda weird.

Anyone who is maining Dan will need to come to terms with losing sooner or later. But like some posters said; stick to endless battle. I enjoy endless battles a lot more.

PP is on a weighted scale. If you play someone who has the exact same PP as you, you’ll gain/lose equally with a win or a loss.

If you have more PP than your opponent your losses will make you lose more than you gain.

If you have less PP than your opponent your wins will be worth much more than your losses.

The scale shifts to be more weighted as you go over 1k pp.

this guy beat me to it.
