He’s not. I’m pretty sure they got it all wrong. In competitve play, Dong is practically unplayable. He’s forced to resort safe s.A C.B C.C based strings and br.DP+C. Every other move he has is punishable.

Well, considering how good these players are, i’m sure they have their reasons. I’d just like to know what they are (so I try taking advantage of 'em, >_>).

And i’m not sure about this, so does anybody know how quick Hwan’s mid-air C is? If you small hop and use it, your kick goes right over the enemy. I think I can use it to prevent people from jumping away while also bluffing a hop-in and throw (cause i’m pretty sure you can’t throw immediatly after ticking/hitting).

I’m asking how fast it is because it looks very quick, and i’m wondering if it can be used to trick people into using anit-air supers so they can be Just Defended.

On a side note, for some reason I think it’s really neat that Hwan’s QCF+B and QCF+D are one fluid animation, amazing how smooth stuff like it looks on something like the neogeo, :P.

Let me say this. When I first started Garou, I used to use my Jae Hoon against several Dong Players. I didn’t know how to block his stuff, or how to not ger baited by his DP after midair d+K.

A few weeks later, I played other players elsewhere, learned how to block, learned Jae’s link combos, figured out his pokes(this was pre-d+AB cancelling). I never lost to a single Dong Hwan player for the rest of the time it was at Chinatown Fair.

So, Dong is fine, until your opponent knows how to block your specials. Then he starts to suck.

I was never a big fan of Jae Hoon, he’s extremely straight forward. All the players i’ve seen that use him have almost no trickiness at their disposal besides a close range overhead DM. He’s got a ton of raw damage dealing potential, but i’ve never really seen anyone put strong use to it because of his predictability.

I’m probably not a good Garou player, so feel free to disregard what I say, but that’s what i’ve seen from Jae.

I agree that most of his moves are punishable (as many other’s moves though). Still, Dong IS playable in competitive play. The only thing is you gotta remember that Dong is fast : therefore don’t try to do specials all the time or you’re dead meat. Pressure your opponent since you’re fastand look for a mistake then punish with some good combo (with or without fury).

I advise avoiding qcf+D as it is way too predictable but qcf+B can be good in combos or on your opponent wake-up (stay unpredictable though).

Never input a hcb+C if you’re not sure it won’t be parried

As for his d+B/D, I suggest keeping them very low on the ground: aim for the (tip of the) feet of your opponent. It is safer and more efficient. Dong is quite strong in the air, and has a fine high-jump which can be real nice for closing the distance or moving around quickly. If you get too close to your opponent, just throw (in air as on ground).

In any case: Be an annoying insect and you are likely to make your way to victory (Who cares if you’re an insect, at least you have style^^)

Another good annoying tactic is kicking people in the back on the head with Hwan’s b.B, :stuck_out_tongue:

Man, everyone’s good but Jae Hoon. Whoever is playing him sucks.

Yeah, he got no varity or mix-ups IMO but he’s good cause of his solid high damaging combos.

a-cho updated with MotW match vids from that tournament I mentioned before. Downloading/watching them now.

Saw 'em, didn’t look like very good matches compared to howard arena’s or the pair on combovideos.com.

^ – Agreed. It might take some time for the a-cho players to get up to speed. Some MotW is better than no MotW though, and at least we finally got to see Hotaru and Tizoc (still no “good” Jae Hoon’s yet, though).

Hotaru and Tizoc action? I think there’s some of that on Orochinagi.com, they’ve got some of the older Howard Arena matches.

I upload three Hotaru old matches videos from Howard Arena site.

Jae Hoon vs Hotaru
Marco vs Hotaru
Freeman vs Hotaru

Expect some more of those MotW mystery matches coming soon on CV =]

Any reason these people want to remain anonymous?

I have a decent Jae vid

mow.2.35, Jae vs Freeman. Jae only wins 1 round still but it was a lot closer (and he didnt win by random super! omg!). Anyone have or want it?

I have the vid, and that Jae wasn’t that good.

A friend of mine supposedly has a 2 hour VHS tape from him playing some Japanese players while he was in Japan. He told me there’s about an hour of Garou matches on there and when he gets his card(I think he means capture card)he’ll send them to me to upload somewhere. Suposedly, this is the only copy of the tape, and none of the vids have been put on the net, but I think he’s BSing me, but if he’s not, I guess we’ll have some decent Jae, Grant, Kain, Gato, Freeman and Hotaru matches to come sooner or later.

Woot! Thanks. <3

Ah crap, now I’ll be waiting in anticipation for who knows how long. >_<

Don’t get your hopes up just yet, I’m gonna see him at E3(next week)and if he doesn’t bring me the tape or show it to me in his camcorder, its all BS.

BTW, those a-cho Garou vids were garbage. Are those the only vids they’re releasing?

After watching those A-cho matches I almost shot myself in the head ha…I was like what the. 2 hours of Garou footage does sound nice…as long as its not from Acho ha. Alright guys take care.

Jaime

Yeah! Thanks! At last we have some hotaru ! And even Jae wasn’t so bad (ok, he loses bad, but not without showing more than random skill)

EDIT: 5new vids on howard arena ! Some nice Dong Hwan and even nicer Grant ^^
