Good idea manofleaf, i would also suggest the twins take one for the team & do some movies for income…I hear they are casting for Bangcock Knockouts 2
What?! I didn’t know the twins knew kung fu!
I like the idea of a donation drive kind of thing helps out buying xbox live memberships, lopez’s electricity and stream equipment we may need in the future.
Also Jay and I were talking about doing a ranbat at the beginning of the month and keeping track of rankings, the problem is what’s the prize for top 3? I’m sure if we dealt with money outside of the shop gabi wouldn’t mind but then that leaves out impulsive people from Seattle who may show up and not have pre-paid for the tourney which is why I may want to hold off on doing the ranbats until I get my new place and have people show up. Or alternatively find a place we can rent out once a month on the cheap and play there. Jordan suggested we may be able to play at the 4th ave tavern, but that hinders the under 21 crowd.
Regardless of location I think this series of events is certain to follow
The 4th Ave Tav? Here’s my thoughts:
Pros: BEER!, and my girlfriend and I already spend too much time there
Cons: No Chad
More pros: Delicious bar food, and other downtown goodies. 4th Ave Tav has 3 pinball machines.
Cons: No twins, yet.
My fingers are really burning right now. I’ve been using slides to do blanka’s electricity and I’ve been in training mode all day listening to music and grinding out combos and I still feel like I’ve got no execution, curse you 1 frame links!
Do note also that the bar would be a friday thing, it wouldn’t replace our Thursdays meetings. I mean even if I did happen at my future apartment which i mean we would have to try out first I doubt chad would show up, or really anyone under 21 anyway but it would give them the choice of showing up, while if we had it at a bar I don’t think they’d have that choice but I also think that the bar would create a better competitive environment for tournaments.
Twins! Bring MK9 to Lopez’s! I just checked the PAX schedule and it looks like I’ll be able to go to the mk9 tournament so I need to grind out some games, get my combos back on track!
No Chad = No Drew
No Drew = No Hype
No Hype = No OCC
Come on Ryan, gotta piano! Pianoing into fierce lighting off of far standing jab isn’t that hard! cl.jab and cr.jab are harder, but I’ve been able to do it with a little practice. For lulz I even did j.roundhouse, cl.forward, s.jab xx fierce lightning a few times. Fyi the training dummy was Yun and it combo’d. Also Blanka trials are done. Apparently the trick to doing 24 isn’t charge partitioning like you would say dash in Ultra. You just hold up back for the cl.strong. I was surprised when it worked, after that it wasn’t too hard to do the trial.
Haha, well I dont mind as long as it doesnt replace Thursdays. I love Thursdays. But honestly, Im up for anything that’ll give me a chance to practice more- because my goal is to one day go to Evo and not get bodied lol, and I doubt that goal is gonna be accomplished anytime soon haha. So if there are any times you guys are setting up stuff outside of OCC, just tell me because I really enjoy getting to playing against you guys because fighting games are my passion, and have been for a long time, I just never found a community to play them with. And I really appreciate how friendly you guys are to me at OCC even though Im a pretty mediocre player, and I really respect that quality. So thankyou.
If Vincent made a tutorial on what he does with Ken, then maybe I would have a chance at beating him in the mirror match >_>
All asians know kung fu but Bangcock Knockouts isn’t a kung fu flick hehe
I’m considering coming through either this week or next. Probably next week, cuz right now, broke nigga is broke. I’ll figure something out, though. I won’t be on AE, though. 3S for life.
Everyone you should like this because ManOfTheLeaf put a lot of his own blood and tears into this also i heard that he sacrifice himself to be a family man. :crybaby: For ManOfTheLeaf. :crybaby:
As cute as this idea is, I’ve seen a lot of scenes try this. And after a month or two they realize that no one cares about all the time, effort and money you put into this project except for your scene. No one else.
No one has any reason to watch your videos. You have no top players or even notable players. In any real tournaments you would all likely go 0-2. A lot of the tutorials would probably lack information, be outdated or just wrong. Among other things.
And no, the last paragraph wasn’t to hype myself up. I know I suck at fighters these days. And I honestly don’t care in the slightest. I have much more important things to worry about than my status in a fighting game scene. But I’m being realistic cause I’ve seen it happen.
Dont listen to this clown guys…I think you guys are more then 0-2, this type of negative is nonsense & doesn’t help the scene at all…I’ve seen you guys up your games & i know how dedicated you guys are…Keep it up
Just because there is no one notable yet, you should not be discouraging them from trying. Recording your matches isn’t bad as you can see your flaws & what needs to be worked on. You can get help by other experience players on the FG forums by posting the videos of matches you guys are having…You can also use the equipment when going to other tournaments…Also doesn’t hurt to promote your channel & maybe attract more people from the Thurston area…Dont expect any money out of it, its more for exposure…
Anyway, Mother Russia is open this Friday…Lets get some good games!
I think the point of streaming, posting videos and putting in effort isn’t to pump our own ego or to even get recognition for what we’re doing, it’s to contribute to the fighting game scene as a whole. To say no one will watch it is foolish, youtube is huge and to contribute to the scene as a whole is a noble goal.
As for the content of our videos, to say something like, “We will put out tutorials that are incorrect” is also foolish. If we put out a video of simply us playing against each other, that is in fact useful we are undeniably better than most replays you’d find on xbox live or psn and therefore a better source of matchup information or even just pure entertainment. Even making tutorials can benefit any level of player, because it shows a different perspective from those we may be used to in our scene.
Is there a possibility of our stuff being absolute shit? Absolutely. But to not do something because of the potential for failure is like not eating because the food might taste bad. I think posting videos, streaming and just providing content is a great way to expose ourselves more and outreach to more people.
As for us going to any real tournament and going 0-2 well maybe your right, but isn’t that just more fuel for the fire? Anyone who’s competitive and loses that badly or performs that badly will keep playing and keep working at it. Even documenting our results and seeing play from today to tomorrow will teach us how to better improve ourselves and provides content for those who lack a scene or for those bored and home and want to watch some matches.
Finally I want to propose a question to everyone. If someone who goes 0-2 in a tournament, say evo. Does that make his or her advice less viable? I want you to look at a player like Day9 a starcraft 2 professional caster, he is for certain a good player however he cannot stack up against the pro players and never the less he provides daily content explaining the game, casting games and teaching people how to be a better gamer. There is more to the game than skill, there is wisdom and there are many people who lack wisdom but have great skill and we look to them for advice, what can they tell us? However there are some who have wisdom, they’re the ones we look to for advice and from their wisdom we grow into better players.
Well regardless of whether or not the matches are extremely top level play- I always enjoy watching streams as long as the commentary is good and can provide some type of hype, and Im pretty sure the same could be said for a few others…Thats where Drew comes in >__>
All these early morning comments don’t you guys ever sleep? 0-2 is just a number. A number which will never affect my passion for entering tournaments or drive me away from leveling up my game and everyone else around me. Now whether I am able to enter is a totally different story.
Good story Stuart but I know we’re gonna do it anyway. Our ambition is huge and our minds are active. It may fall but I believe that we have to make an ever conscience effort. Its not like we’re looking to make money or anything. We just want want THIS scene to grow and I ain’t even from here! We shouldn’t accept failure before the plan is even in motion. If I had that kind of attitude I wouldn’t be married today…
Although this isnt directly related to Street Fighter, It talks about mind games behind rock paper scissors- and could be linked back to fighting games in general
Yeah, you want a scene to grow but won’t play anything other than SFIV and make fun of people who try to introduce new games. Well, older games but introducing them to the scene.
Like, when Drew and I played that set of MvC2 the first day I was there. People were trolling us constantly even though they knew NOTHING about the game. That shit is irritating. Not to mention I don’t see anyone attempting to get into or get better at new games.
Sounds like a scene I want to be apart of…
And 0-2 is more than a number to people who actually enter tournaments on the regular than…monthlies or whatever you guys do. Then again I have no real interest in a scene or a tournament scene in general. and I haven’t since 07 or so. I show up to play, sure, but I don’t care about establishing my self or getting better. Especially at games I don’t enjoy like AE and mvc3.
Also, comparing a group of people who play video games to marriage is just no. It doesn’t work.
And yes, I know. I’m an ass hole. But what you guys are trying to do, I tried to do for probably about half a year, if not longer, when I lived in Puyallup and would have 8-20 people over at my house every other day. We recorded, uploaded, held tourneys at venues and all that stuff. But the only person who cared was me. Hell, I even went out of my way to buy a several CASES of the Tekken 5 Hori when it first came out so everyone who came over to my place had a stick. But no one cared. I went out of my way as much as possible to teach people as much as I could about game x. Didn’t matter. No one really cared. I’d try to host big tourneys. I’d get “Is so and so going to be there” I’d tell them no or maybe and they’d tell me “Well, I’m not coming then”. Which is total bullshit. So I stopped caring and when I moved I stopped caring about fighting games and getting better in general.
Again, I know I’m an ass. Don’t really care. I really am a nice guy like…95% of the time when people are around me. But since I’ve been there and done that, I’m going to be blunt about it.
Oh, and lastly, I have no issues with anyone and I don’t dislike anyone that posts here/goes to Gaby’s on Thursday’s, the venue, the casuals or anything in general, really, I don’t. I was happy everyone welcomed me, was nice to me and went out of their way to get to know me. Maybe that was just because I knew Drew, or you were just interested in getting to know me better, I’m thankful for the warm welcome either way. And when I can I still plan on showing up to OCC to play. But this is just how I feel about the subject. And people might have issues with me over some of my posts over the past few days, if they do, that’s fine, whatever. Nothing I can do about that.
And don’t get is twisted. I have nothing against people getting better at games they enjoy. Or trying to get their name out there (as long as it’s for the love of the game. Fuck all those “clans” and sponsors. eSports is a fucking joke and always will be). I’m saying start off small. Few matches here and there, maybe a finals for a round robin, shit like that. Make people want to see you. Don’t go jumping head first and hit the bottom of the pool.
P.S.
I miss Chad. <3
