Olympia Fightclub!

This is the one time we actually need Stuart Hayden back. He wasn’t afraid to just turn off a Wii anytime there was Smash being forced upon us good people of the fighting game community.

He was a hero for that.

something in my gut tells me that out of everyone down there you could do that withouth blinking an eye or feeling even remotley guilty.

We should just try and get along with them, guys.
No use in trying to start drama. Maybe we can convert them to play GOOD games.

lol! you’re such a sweetheart!

You know the world is turning into a strange place when the voice of reason is a 16 year old kid.

I’ll behave myself, because these people have the blessing of Gabi. I am curious as to how many of them there are, what their average age is, how seriously they take it…it will be interesting to see.

I’m pretty sure there’ll only be like 2 or 3 of them, they’ll probably feel compelled to play our games when they realize how many of us there are. Aswell as how much room we take up for our own set ups.

But my guess on their average age?

12 years old.

Anyway, the goal here should be conversion, but ONLY if they’re cool guys. If they’re a bunch of douches, then we’ll deal with them another way…
Chances are, they’ll probably enjoy playing Marvel 3 due to the similarities of speed and triangle jumping; the only thing they should have to worry about are combos. If anybody has a copy of Tatsunoko Vs Capcom, they should try and bring it, since I know how anal Smash fans are about using Nintendo consoles for their games. Almost to the point of “IF ITS NOT ON MY CONSOLE I WONT EVEN PLAY IT”.

Personally, I think they’ll drop their Smash sessions after a month or so and move on since we know their community is pretty lazy and I doubt any of them are THAT serious about it anyway.

My mother taught me well haha.

I’ll be stopping by tomorrow to see who wants to go to Portland with me on Sat. I don’t intend to stay long after Tekken and it won’t be as hot this time so, thank god.

Smash kids are always the hardest people to get into traditional fighting games. Despite the fact that they already know a lot about playing a game competitively and taking things seriously, they have difficulty with a lot of the stuff we take for granted. Think about their current setup for a second:

[]The play a fairly old game on a system that could be considered on life support. People who support something for that long without anything new tend to become very stubborn, a lot like you guys have witnessed with me when it comes to the older Capcom games compared to today. It showed in the Smash community during the transition for Melee to Brawl, and it will be even more intense branching out to a whole other style of competitive fighter.
[
]On the same note as the system being old, I’ve noticed that at least a few Smash players are into the game because a Nintendo system is all they have, or all they had for a significant amount of time. This is part of the reason Melee was such a huge game, because there was a whole generation of kids who only had a Gamecube, some friends, a few controllers and Smash. I haven’t interacted with the Smash community in awhile, but from what I was seeing, this phenomenon repeated itself with Brawl. Younger kids with no disposable income, playing a game on the cheapest system available.
[*]A lot of Smash players I’ve met look at other fighting games as a huge hassle to get into, both financially and effort wise. They probably won’t be willing to buy an arcade stick, and when they play on one they’re going to bitch about how hard it is. I can totally empathize with them on that note, this is an expensive hobby.

I guess what I’m trying to say with this wall of text is, don’t expect them to be so quick to embrace our scene. I’m well aware that I could be completely wrong about these guys, and that they could be the coolest dudes ever who are open to play whatever we throw at them. However, the realistic side of me has to disagree with that.

On a related note. The guy from Idaho that beat Rat, Row and Darryn in Marvel 3 was a Smash player.

I think you just summed up Chandler’s entire videogame career.

so i was just reading through some articles on Kotaku and saw a video thread about some of the ingame items and how awesome they are. After watching i’m gonna do some serious grinding to get the trash can for Jaycee. She slams a trash can over their entire body and just the head sticks out! SPAMMING THAT MOVE!

What I learned in Portland:
-Everybody mains Chie
-There are a lot of hipster kids

Chad: “Squall”

Who wants to go to Dante’s on Sat. for a tournament. Let me know and we’ll get some rides situated.

I would like to go josh but first, let me see if my sickness gets better if not i’ll give you a heads up.

GET BETTER.

Anyway, if they play P4A then I’m down.

Chad, Dante’s is a bar. Unfortunately you cannot go or I might be wrong. We’ll have to ask Deniz, Armand, or CPR about that one since this will be my first time to Dante’s as well.
