Seriously, Guile has been giving me fits lately. Blanka, I feel like I’ve got a handle on. I’ve had a similar experience to Dreadz18x above me – once you stuff their ball a few times, most of the Blankas I’ve fought start panicking and are easy to pick off. I just wish their ultra wasn’t so goddamned magnetic sometimes.
But Guile? I have lots of trouble with him these days. If he’s turtling, I feel like my options are limited. I can fake a walldive to get him to whiff a somersault kick, but that only works a few times. I can walk up and try to throw or backflip, but I’ll usually just eat a Sonic Boom, EX or otherwise. I can taunt, but if he’s got a life lead, that’s not going to do much.
So what’s the solution here? Keep steering wall dives to play mind games with him? I know Bebop mentioned the mid-range game against him, but it’s been my experience that if a Guile is coming after me, I’ve already won. It’s when he’s turtling that I’m a little stumped.
To be clear, if I’ve got a life lead against him, I can crouch and poke him all day. And I have been. But getting that life lead without eating a somersault kick has been tricky.
Guile: df.rh from mid range is good for set ups such as pokes or grabs… mainly grabs in this case cuz hes probly charging and not paying attention. u can bait his flash pick by doing fake walldives but dont abuse it. other than that just work your way inside by FADC sonic booms or blocking and advancing.
blanka’s ultra: i used to get raped by this but no more. i laugh at blankas ultra now cuz i kno if i block it i get a free ex walldive or ultra if i got it
Yeah, I’ve started to be a lot more careful (i.e. “boring”) towards the end of matches, which has helped me eat a lot fewer ultras lately. But I’ve just gotten really unlucky against Blanka’s ultra, with him catching me after an accidental EX flip kick that was supposed to be a wall dive, etc. Stupid easy controls.
Thanks for the df+RH tip, I’ll have to give that a try. I don’t use it nearly enough.
Heh, you gotta love that especially against scrubs…they make tons of mistakes for you to punish. I’m actually improving against Blanka too, I just have to play more patiently against him and wish I can play mid range better. My battle so far against Blanka has always been about punishing.
Hey, how can i avoid/punish Abel’s rekka? I’ve little to no experience against Abel, so when i face him online i’m always in trouble. I always tend to block his rekka even if the last hit will alwasy connect; i know i’d be able to punish it after the first hit is blocked, but i just don’t know how.
Offline i can FA between hits yes, but online i usually can’t pull it off, i smash mk+mp but i 90% of the time i get the armor break and take full dmg.
I can’t jump back, or at least i don’t know how. After the first hit i’m in block stun, and if i try to jump back Vega will just keep to stay in guard. And the flipckick is a bit tricky, sometimes it works, sometimes not.
In the end FA seems a safe counter, i tried in training and it works 100% of the time. Too bad online i can’t pull it off.
Wow, thanks to this thread I figured out how great Vega’s standing RH can be against certain characters. Zangief has a really hard time jumping in on it and it’s especially great against Balrog. Wow! I’ve beat several of them online with just that one button. It completely stuffs his rush punches, even the EX ones! I think the Balrog players weren’t aware that the EX low rush punch would still work. They just ended up getting frustrated and losing pretty badly.
Ok I need some serious help fighting Bison (Dictator). I just went on a 20-game losing streak against RWD’s Dic and he had an answer for everything I tried. Scissor kicks stopped everything I had on the ground. I tried getting the lead early and retreating but that just put me in the corner quicker, where he had this nasty ambiguous crossup with j.LK (I think? Might have been j.MK) where if i guessed wrong, c.LP x3 into scissors and if I guessed right i had to guess again between blocking low or being tick thrown. Focus and backflips weren’t much help here, they would usually get punished. And of course, Claw has very limited anti-air options so once I was knocked down, there was no reason for him not to try again for the same 6-hit combo. Air-to-air I lost to MP x2.
I just had no way to deal damage. He could just block jump ins high since Claw has no practical crossup that I’m aware of. I could only get hits in if he got too predictable or I was really random. For example, if he kept whiffing Devil’s Reverse, I could predict and airthrow or Ultra (at least I always had full Ultra XD). Or if I threw out a random EX Izuna or EX Sky High, I would catch him with it sometimes.
I think I won one round from 20+ matches. This has got to be a worse matchup than Blanka. It’s impossible to punish LK scissors since it gives 0 frames advantage on block. The most reliable way of hitting him was to walk backwards, hope he whiffed something and punish with MK or HK, which does peanuts for damage. I tried everything I could think of, and the only useful thing I learned was that EX Sky High beats Psycho Crusher. Please help, I’m really at a loss here.
Only Bison’s Light Scissor Kicks are almost safe on block, the rest you can punish (EX?) but as a Bison player myself, I know better so I always use safe Scissor Kicks. Vega’s ground game is better than Bison’s if it wasnt for the Scissor Kicks this would be much easier.
If Bison’s uses Teleport reversal then that will make your Wall Dives useless in my opinion, plus there is also the Head Stomp. Jump-ins will help you just like with anyother character without good AA options. Oh and corners suck, like they always do.
I haven’t met many good Bison’s so all the info is from my experience as a Bison player, so I can’t give alot of advice.
