I would test it on Doom like in the vid, that likely has a LOT to do with it. Still there are better corner combos, but this tech provides a very useful relaunch for accidentally getting too close to a corner during the first launch without wasting an assist.
In the first few combos, the t’ked shield slash seems to hit as Doom bounces into the air from the hard knockdown preceeding it. Though I’ve just tried it in different combos and I couldn’t replicate it with a normal corner bnb.
I made 3 videos demonstrating ways to level Frank West up to level 5 with Captain America and Doom and Dante using raw-tags and starting with one meter.
Captain America/Frank West/Doctor Doom (Level 4)
Captain America/Dante/Frank West (Level 4)
Captain America/Dante/Frank West (Level 5) (starting with Cartwheel/Shopping Cart mix-up)
Although, I found better levelling up videos of the Cap/Dante/Frank team here
Hey guys, this weekend I was at GUTS in Mass and I did a lot of commentary on spooky’s stream and faced some new york pros like Flux & Ray Ray etc. Here are some of my matches.
The flux match is around 8:43:22 and the ray ray match is around 11:34:48. . . .yea pretty much I get bopped by both players, but it was a good experience. I need to get better with my spencer, but yeah here ya go!
I think overall, you just need to get used to either wave dashing or plink dashing. Spencer’s ground movement is ridiculously crazy if you can take advantage of it.
That set with Rayray was sick though!
For that Zero match, you played it really well. I just think a few covered Charging Stars would’ve helped just to prevent Flux from pushing for the majority of the match. Keep him on his toes. I try to stay in the air as much as possible when Zero is at a distance since I won’t have to deal with most assists and he has to hold those shields. Once he’s in (because he WILL get in), let your assists be your offense if possible. Challenging that pizza cutter is just asking for death.
As for the Ray Ray set, it was just insanity. I was hoping you would’ve done Cap’s late DHC trick with Hyper Stars & Stripes but I’m not sure if that X Factor air grab was just Ray going for a true punish or Ray trying to prevent it. Works better with Iron Man since his cannon hits before the flash.
Hello guys, i’m new to the forum but i have been checking out stuff from it for a while. I’ve recently uploaded me playing online matches against my friend and wanted to show off my team of Thor, Iron Man, Captain America. Not too good by any means but i play with them more for the Avengers theme team. I hope this is of any entertainment and is open to criticism, pointers and tips would be most appreciated.
Only got to 8min mark, but a few things:
The team order is all wrong. If you are really wanting to do avengers, the optimal team order Cap(SS)/Thor(mighty strike or ground bounce)/Iron Man(beam). Cap w/ IM beam is too good. You can cover CS M and combo CS H on hit. It provides a way to get in, extend combos, convert throws, etc… Thors assist is outclassed by this, so go with his other two options. I personally would do the mighty strike because it helps cover above cap and wouldn’t be a bad alpha counter. Cap is simply a point character, he should never be played anchor for any reason. In rare cases he can be a good intentional 2nd, but so far Vergil/Cap(SS) is the only uniquely strong pairing. Cap is only good when he has the right assists, otherwise you should be using a different character.
Play wise, learn to respect your opponents moves. I saw a lot of buttons being pressed when Task or Doom was very capable of sniping you with beams and arrows on reaction. Use safer approaches by covering with assists, wave dashing, or jumping and blocking. I saw a lot of cases of not respecting the opponents angles for hypers.
Also the DHCs were suspect. You kept trying to use Cap Hyper Star full screen and in unsafe ways.
Thank you for the response and knowledge, i agree that i should be able to get in more by using the unibeam assist but i never
enjoyed using it because the damage scaling would dramatically decrease the combo’s damage. i like Thor’s spark assist because it is a good combo extender and can shot from a distance. I guess i think of it as getting in vs getting damage, but i will definitely try what you have in mind. Also i was more comfortable using cap has an anchor vs Iron Man which is why i had him in the back, i used to have him in the back but he never worked being my last character. I do have a bad habit of pressing stuff at wrong times which i have to do something about, for the DHC’s i was desperately trying to get my character out and the team lacks solid safe DHC’s. Just letting you know my point of view and again thank you for the response.
So I’ve mentioned to the Hitbox team that I want to do a Cap video, basically condensing everything in the Ultimate Cap Guide thread into video format with actual commentary overlay in parts. Soooooo if anyone has any suggestions to add, nuances to cover, any tech that you’ve been sitting on that’s not talked about tell me. Currently my idea is to pretty much cover the exact info with some elaborations here and there on the areas of theory and use, then separate it all with a menu.
It’ll cover things for a Day 1 Cap to an optimally advanced player. I know Jint is in the works on something new and would love to have his entry first to hopefully include any new finds. Naturally credit and any links to contributing videos will be added.
Given that I still haven’t gotten around to using a recording device, the IPhone will have to do. The video description should note what I did a bit more easily.
The throw combos are more tricky to pull off, but in trade off any midscreen throw you can get at least 590k spending one meter.
New recommended Midscreen BnB:
Improved Backthrow combo:
Proof of concept Solo comboing off a Front Throw midscreen:
Let me know if you have any questions.
Dat front throw O____________O…I’ll put these in the lab and see about adding them to the Ultimate Guide.
dudes! i knew you could do a combo off of a back throw, but a front throw combo? and could you do some annotations for your new BnB combo plz? i would appreciate it very much =D
Few things about these vids. One…FRONT THROW OMG! Very nice sir. Second, I’ve been doing that back throw combo for about a month now…or whenever you posted about finding this one a while back I went in the lab and figured that out, glad to see we are on the same page. Part C…your new midscreen…just clarifying the inputs. c. :l: s. :h: :s: sjc. j. :h: u+:h: qcf+:l: (land) j.u+:h: d+:h: this is all I’m really questioning right now as the rest is straight forward. I’ve been doing basically this only you are adding in two heavies with each jump and I’m only getting one. Just throwing this out there before I go test it, but…is it really that simple? With my HOURS of damage testing how did I not see this? Anyways, great work, I’m off to go be frustrated by the timing of that front throw.
Edit: Okay, just tested some stuff. It’s not u+h then d+h, just neutral then down. Didn’t notice the two m’s in the last air series, so I gotta try and add those, but you added like…20-30k to my bnb and it’s not that much harder. Also, don’t know why it took me this long to learn it, but I’m hitting the j.qcf+l pickup ender now, which saves my missiles for when I DHC to Vergil for the sword loop extension…all in all I just added a shit ton of damage and I was already killing people with no problem. Should just have a lot more meter now. YAY!
I managed to get the dash shield to hit off of the front throw…once…and I only got one hit…I have NO CLUE how you did that.
Backthrow combo:
Yea, I ended up figuring it in Vegas while getting ready for EVO…I feel dumb for not finding that sooner. Builds a bar so, that’s helpful. You can do the j.M. j.M j.h j. d+H version, though the positioning is much more difficult to hit with the j.S knockdown.
Front Throw pickup:
This one is difficult, though you have more leeway with it in X-Factor. This combo requires practice vs various characters to figure out the correct timing. You need to be spot on with the backdash straight to L Shield Slash, otherwise you’ll either whiff it, or it’ll hit and whiff on the return.
I wouldn’t recommend using this unless you’ve spent a lot of time getting it down. I failed about 7 times attempting to record on video, just to give an idea. I made it to show that Cap does have an extra option, though execution requirement is difficult.
On a sidenote, it seems to be much easier to do on short characters (Zero, Coon, Arthur, etc.) than normal/large ones.
Revised BnB notations.
Cr. L, st. M, st. H, st. S, j. H, j u+H, j. L SS, (land) j. H, d + H, j. L SS, (land) st. H, st. S, j.m, j.m, j.H, d + j.H, j. S, (land) j. L SS, (land, dash forward a bit), L CS, H CS, Hyper
This isn’t the optimized version of the combo, but it should be the most reliable and consistent.
If you want the ‘optimal’ version it’s this one:
st. M, st. M, st. H, st. S, j. H, j u+H, j. L SS, (land) j. H, u + H, j. L SS, (land) st. H, st. S, j.m, j.m, j.H, (double jump) j.m, d + j.H, j. S, (land, jump forward) j. L SS, (land, dash forward a bit), L CS, H CS, Hyper
I’ve highlighted the changed part in bold to make it easier to spot. This combo is harder due to the need to be more precise when you do the 2nd set of j.H = j. u+H, as it’s possible for the opponent to flip out if you time it wrong. The 2nd part is harder as you need to time the series perfectly, otherwise you won’t be in position for the j.S to connect (they’ll recover). The last part is difficult as when you land, you have to move forward before doing the j. L SS, otherwise, the return hit of the L SS won’t connect.
Yeah, good stuff. I really like your BnB, I’m not even gonna mess with the optimal version when the other one builds me the bar I need to DHC to Vergil. Just happy to see people still working on Cap. I posted the bnb and front throw to www.reddit.com/r/mvc3 and they got some love from the Cap players there.
yea the front throw conversion works real easy for me on wolverine and zero…but the bigger characters are extremely hard to land it on so far cap is the only bigger character i can convert on ( only hit it once though after a billions try then when i actually did hit it i was so surprised that i dropped the combo) LOL but yea keep bringing more tech! i wonder if cap can convert solo off an air backhrow
SOMEONE FIND A WAY TO SHIELD SLASH INFINITE AGAIN…THERES GOTTA BE A WAY!!! ya’ll have a great weekend
So I’m going to append most of this to the ultimate after testing. Some notes:
[]The front through is very cool but i deeply question it’s practicality beyond a desperate need to close out the match…for now. It’s simply very very tight.
[]I actually prefer doing the j.H, u+H twice as opposed to d+H in the 2nd jump in your new combo, but overall I love it. Very consistent on that ender which has been my problem for quite some time (I can’t stress how many matchs I lost to people flipping out)

New back throw seems more consistent than the CS one by far.
hey guys! i finally discovered how to convert from a hyper stars and stripes to a killing combo using x-factor and recorded me doing it with each level of x-factor.
After I uploaded it to youtube, I thought i’d do a quick search to see if anyone else had a similar combo, and i guess another guy has known about this since last year. So really i’m not the first one to discover this, but i’ve never seen anyone do it before so I wasn’t aware of someone else knowing it already.
Edit: I forgot to mention this, but you can do these conversions in the corner as well. The only thing that changes is you jump diagonally back and press Special instead of jumping up and pressing it.
