The only guy I know of who fits this bill is a sprinter (summer olympics, obviously) who was born elsewhere, came here while young and eventually became a citizen. Lots of small countries do this to bolster their individual sports, and I’ve seen nothing to suggest that America would fit that bill.

From what I read, he stumbled a couple times but pulled off beastly moves, but still lost. He then bitched about the scoring.
If you read the things that the Canadian SRKers have been saying, it’s not surprising. Really, all the Canadians I’ve both read articles by, heard commentating or have personally talked to have handled things with a distinct lack of maturity.

After the horrible opening ceremony, it’s getting pretty humiliating to be canadian nowadays.
Went to see Dedrmau5 tonight with a buddy. It was stupid in the sense that I wasted an entire day to see this act he dragged me to, which was alright. The fact that he has space invader tats on his neck and had some vid game references in his music is pretty damn fucking awesome and almost made up for it. Just that the venue it was being held at is fucking stupid. It’s a huge ass marketing pavillion for Samsung, Acer, Panasonic and Coke. It seems kinda ridiculous to wait in line in order to get into a place only to wait in line some more to see a 2 minute feature commercial for a future product. Of course we wouldn’t be having such great venues without the support of these sponsors so I guess that is the “strings attached” to having such acts like Dedmau5.
As people clearly found out, it was the “green house” exhibit that most people held up in, waiting for the show tonight. Kinda hilarious because it was one of if not then venue where you can sit without having to get out for the next “showing” and it began to look like a squatters paradise. Some rent a cop fucker told me to stop sleeping because this isn’t a hotel when there are other people passed out on the floor and sitting under displays. A game of quarters/coin football was being played on the high tech touch screen table and a Big 2 card game was being cracked down upon assuming they were gambling (which they were but hid).
It wasn’t a total waste. Granville is a fucking madhouse, I caught the Robson Square fireworks/fireshow and yesterday despite having only 4 hours of sleep and a shift at the restaurant later (which is another madhouse on it’s own), I fucking went to the Colbert taping in Vancouver. Holy shiiiiiit. Some of the fucking shit he said during the interview with one of our MPs is tasteless as fuck (of which he mentioned not all of it will make it into the final cut.) I’ll tell you how busy it is. Restaurants were running OUT OF FUCKING FOOD AND HAD TO CLOSE.

Competitive. It’s a sport where much of Europe, America, Russia and Japan are all capable of winning. America beasts in snowboarding. There’re only a few teams that could win hockey and not have it be considered an upset. While there’s always plenty of parity. Women’s hockey may be on the chopping block in the same way baseball was a few years ago. And when it comes to baseball, there’s nothing that Europe hates more than seeing brown people consistently annihilate whitey (Cuba won three of five medals), and America winning the rest.
