Official USFIV/GGXrd/P4U TE2 Thread

Warning, huge rant with lots of pics.

So my TE2 got delivered three days ago from Amazon. It was going to be delayed two months, but then it delivered as scheduled. So I should be happy, right? Eh…

I had the same air bubble issue that madgrab posted six posts above this one. The case didn’t close and sit flush with the rest of the case. But that was the least of my problems.

I also ordered the Type-N plate. I was a little excited as this was going to be my first Namco Noir layout stick that I’ve ever played with. Unfortunately, as some of you already know, the screws to the control panel are under the art panel. Under some adhesive. Oh no.

Wanting to swap to the Type-N plate, I peel off the art panel from the control panel. And as a consequence, there’s good news and bad news. The good news is, after taking a second look at the stock Taito Vewlix panel, the air bubbles went away. The bad news is… the art panel is ruined!

A closer look…

There appeared to be tear lines on the front of the art panel that reflected where lines of adhesive were on the back side. At least I thought they were reflections, as the art panel is a little transparent. So I spend a whole day scrubbing off the adhesive with nail polish remover, hot water, and Palmolive. The tear lines remained. It’s ruined.

Whether it’s actually my fault or not, this could have been avoided if Mad Catz designed the TE2 differently. Either design the frame in a way that the control panel can extend past the art panel but still have enough room for screws before reaching the bezel, or skip the fucking adhesive! You would think a thick enough plexiglass (mine is the shitty, thin one), bezel, and buttons (I’ve heard from this thread that screw-ins help even more) would be enough to hold all this shit down. No, go ahead and ruin the art panel with adhesive.

Whatever. the stock art panel is ruined, at least I still have the Type-N panel. No adhesive there and the art looks nice. Umm…

The Type-N plexiglass is discolored (and thin). It’s kind of green. Here’s some comparison pics of the art panel (and the control panel underneath for contrast) without and with the plexiglass, respectively.

And here’s a comparison pic between the stock plexiglass and Type-N plexiglass.

This is just false fucking advertisement! So while the stock pics of the Type-N panel look like this:

…My stick has to look like this:

Un-fucking-believable. Like glass, the green is more noticeable when approached from the side. And the plexiglass doesn’t stay down either. At least on the stock panel, the little bit of adhesive helps keep things down. Fuck.

Maybe I can get a replacement stock plexiglass, stock art panel, and Type-N plexiglass. Man, such quality issues.

Don’t buy the TE2.

P.S. Sorry if my pics don’t appear, it’s my first time posting pics. Anyways, you can also find them here.

This might sound dumb but did u peel the protective green layers off the type n acrylics?

Oh my fucking God! I didn’t know. I’m so sorry about that. The other problems still persist. Both plexiglass are too thin, my stock art panel got messed up due to the unnecessary adhesive, the case doesn’t shut flush, and the air bubbles that only went away when I peeled off the art panel. But thanks for that one tip. Now I got one panel I’m not ashamed of showing.

A (possible) fix for the discoloration/airbubble issue without having to shell out for a new plexi: swap out the default MadCatz artwork for something else. I just put in some artwork on my Xrd TE2 with a Noir panel and I have yet to notice the issue since.

Ummmm, maybe I shouldn’t get a TE2 then…

They are supposed to go up on the Mad Catz website at noon PST today.

Damn I wish I had logged onto SRK first to read about this, just ordered my TE2 from Madcatz lol

If I’m planning on putting on custom artwork and plexiglass from Art’s shop, is there any reason I still shouldn’t get a te2? Is it only this default art issue reported for the most part?

It’s a good stick but after owning it and a Hori V Hayabusa personally I’d save my $50 and get the Hori.
Opening it easily is nice if you want to swap buttons a lot or something, still have to remove all the screws to get the bezel off to change the art though, it’s a less solid stick than the TE1 due to it being able to open with the latch and all so it’s a little squeaky and moves a bit when you push down on it or have a heavy hand when pressing buttons.
In the end get whatever you think looks better and if you think paying $50 more to be able to open the stick without voiding warranty is worth it to you, both come with good sticks and buttons that are all down to preference.

I wonder if the black SFV TE2 with white sides is going to be the official SFV stick. You can see this stick if you watch any of the SFV vids from E3.

Just a custom, maybe they will sell white sides soon, or maybe save it for an official SFV TE2

Hoping @MarkMan sticks his head in here - wanting to buy a TE2 for PS4, but they’re selling out fast. Not in a huuuuuge hurry but want one for SF5 beta in July if possible. However, I have a specific art mod in mind and don’t like the blue sides of the current PS4 stick. I’d like black, or even red would kinda work, but both of those side panels are sold out as well. Is there a timeline on when those are back in stock? I don’t really want to buy this stick and either have new models come out or the panels take forever to come back in stock and get buyers remorse heh. It’d be easy if the Guilty Gear stick was still available, but that ship has sailed I suppose. So yeah, any timeline?

Also, this probably couldn’t happen but there’s no way I could do a special order and have the black panels swapped for the default blue before shipping right? If all the panels are the same value I was just curious. Want to bite the bullet and stop waffling back and forth but don’t want to get burned.

Does anybody know of any other place to get the TE2 side panels besides MadCatz official site?

This would look terrible with blue sides hehe:

Should of read here before getting the TE2 stick online… I’m also getting plexiglass discoloration, and the plexiglass itself is very movable. The black inner border (closest to the buttons and stick) feels a little off for me as well in terms of wrist placement comfort. I would likely prefer it if the border was smaller.

I’m also not of a fan of the positions of the start and select (in how they are close to the bottom) because certain knee-jerk reactions may hit start by accident. Sure… there is a lock switch to prevent random pauses from happening, but haven’t had the issue with the SFIV TE Round 1 stick and the SSFIV TE S stick.

Otherwise, it’s not that bad outside these problems. The ease of customizing the stick/repairs is a nice touch.

I’m still hoping MadCatz release a new bag that fits the TE2. And the promised shoulder strap would be nice in the mean time - not that the EU store will stock that of course -_-

I never noticed it, but I noticed it today on my TE2. There appears to be a bulge on the top panel. I can press around on the top panel and feel a noticeable bulge on a section.

I’m not sure if it’s the top plexi. God forbid it’s the actual top panel that has this bulge. I can press on it and feel the outline of something underneath. It’s to the left of the joystick.

Is there any sites that offer art work replacement for the TE2?

no… photoshop your own artwork and use a template… you can go to a fedex kinkos and print it and cut it out or use tekinnovations to print it and lasercut it for you provided that you give them the artwork file ( .psd template it’s on the site).

Using it more for testing, I feel that playing on it is really troublesome.

My wrists felt so cramped after some time that it felt like playing the stick is a good way to request for carpal tunnel. The bulge when putting your wrist on the stick is a serious problem, it’s not even the bezel of the stick being the problem btw. It feels like having a long pencil glued on the stick horizontally and your wrist has to apply force on it while playing, making it both uncomfortable and potentially painful to bear with. The discoloration was one thing at first sight of opening the stick up, but this comfort issue is a big deal breaker for me imo.

I really was not pleased overall. I had to switch to the R1 TE Stick shortly after playing 5 games, and I definitely prefer the older MCZ sticks I have… I know that TE sticks are better than this. Features were in the right direction, but the purpose of using the stick for comfort just did not seem to be there for this item.

i had comfort issues when i had the TE2 but as soon as i replaced the plexi and after a week of playing on it I don’t get any sort of discomfort anymore.

I think a hori stick will be more up your alley.

Got a USED USF4 TE2 from Amazon and the plexi definitely moves around a bit. I assume Art’s plexi won’t have this issue?

You assume correctly my good man
