Got this late last night and haven’t had a chance to play it. And I’m here stuck at work till 5 so won’t play it till later tonight. Good to hear that this game rocks. I loved NSMB for the DS so it’s good to hear that this is on par.

NSMBW is very fun… and also disappointing. I had MAD hype before buying this game and playing it all I can think of is why the fuck 2D Mario games don’t take an idea from the original Yoshi’s Island – namely, no fucking RUN button – and run with it (bad pun). Seriously, this game, and NSMB, and Mario 1/2/3/World/Land/etc., are games I play with the Run button held down at all times. It’s silly. In Yoshi’s Island (the first, not that crappy DS one), Yoshi ran at full speed at all times.
Then there’s the archaic lives system with no way to share between characters ala Mario 3, the inability to save everywhere UNLESS you beat the game first (nice how this damn well near essential feature is unlockable), every character controlling like everyone else (a cool thing about Mario 2 and the Mario remakes on GBA was the different characteristics Mario/Luigi/etc. had), player 4 being another Toad (no Peach, not even a Wario or something like that), the control scheme (spinning could have been done by just tapping Jump while in the air, instead of shaking the Wiimote; picking up certain objects like POW and ice blocks is wildly unintuitive), and the wacky hit detection on some enemies.
That said, coop multiplayer is still mad fun, discovering secrets is mad fun, the game is pretty expansive, the Koopalings are back, the new powerups are cool (though the Penguin Suit totally shits all over the Ice Flower), the level design is fairly sound (not SMB3/SMW-level, but pretty damn close), and, well, it’s another 2D Mario game. Huzzah. It’s worth the money, especially if, like me, you regularly have 1-3 others ready to play almost any time. I suppose I just wanted to see some thoughtful expansion/retooling of the formula is all.
Dr. B can run without holding down a button. Granted, he can do a lot of things without holding down buttons. Like turn me on. No homo.
Thanksgiving weekend, it’s so on. NSMB with my friends and fam that’re coming into town. It’s gonna be a blast.

i still held down the “run button” in yoshi’s island. shit. i’m so used to it. add dkc1-3 to that list as well.
this game needs a sequel.

Frog Suit - Great in water, shitty (but interesting) out of water. Beat World 8 with it once without taking a hit, no foolin’.

Kirby Wearing a Mario Hat - He’s fucking adorable. No homo.

Fire Flower “Suit” - Not so much the power but the cool color scheme (red overalls + white shirt).

The one episode of the Super Mario Bros. Super Show where Mario and Luigi were secret agents and they wore secret agent gear.

Mario Galaxy Ice Flower - It skates on lava, biznatches. On LAVA. Kind of a suit in that it changes your clothes…

Luigi’s Jump Helmet - Cheap, easy, big single target damage.

Super Cape - Is it a “suit?” Anything that lets you flat out skip 85% of a game has to be good.

Penguin Suit - Take the Frog Suit and remove the poor out-of-water performance (while retaining the awesome in-water performance). Add a cool belly slide and a built-in Ice Flower.

Tanooki Suit - Kills the one or two enemies that hammers can’t. Can fly. Can turn invincible briefly.

Hammer Bros. Suit - Check Feliniki’s sig.

I fucking suck at NSMB…but I love it.
Finally got to play NSMBW and I fucking love it. It really does have the feel of the past mario games and even some music to go with it. I like that the Koopa kids are back. Single player was fun but once I got to play with my bro some games oh man did that game change. We were yelling and laughing at the game because it becomes hard not to kill each other by accident LOL.
I don’t like that I have to shake to pick stuff up but I got used to it. I still don’t like but it will do.
The super skills vids that you can buy are fucking sick. There was one for the first world that had 4 players with 3 Yoshis and they never let Luigi touch the ground wow that was fucking sick. They kept spitting Luigi out to one another and because Luigi never hit the ground everytime Luigi hit an enemy it counted as a 1up once he got that so many in a row. Once you hit the ground the counter resets. Superplay vids are always badass and it’s cool to see that they put them in the game for you to see it.
Sucks that Left for Dead 2 comes out today cause now I’m gonna be playing the shit out of that. I’m gonna be a game slut and be jumping back and forth from game to game all week.

IGN Super Mario Galaxy 2 Hands-On Update:
2 new abilities revealed: Rock Mario and Lightbulb Yoshi. The way the hub is has changed as well and they have a map system a la Super Mario Bros. 3 now. There’s some other features about the game they want to talk about but they’ve been sworn into secrecy. I"m assuming the moment they decide to speak there offices will get rained on with bullet bills.
