next week friday the beta over
Sirlin has already said that he has already written all of the character rebalancing blogs. Itās Capcom that has been holding them back. Iām guessing they will post the rest of them in the weeks leading up to the games release (whenever that is).
Sirlin has said repeatedly that itās up to Capcom PR/Marketing as to when the updates go out, and hinted most if not all were written and done long ago. Has he said otherwise lately?
I actually bought a 360 to play this game and Iām getting to the point now where I might not even bother buying it. I have serious doubts about whether this game will replace ST as the tournament standard (Evoās inevitable bias aside), and if it doesnāt, I have no real interest in it considering the netplay will most likely be worse than GGPO, the art is worse than original ST even at many times the resolution, and the 360 is a far less convenient netplay platform on the whole compared to the PC.
Well, he also just said this on his site:
Makes me think that thereād be more blog updates if he had more time to do them.
He said previously that all the blog updates are already written, itās just that Capcom is holding back on putting them up for some reason.
Doesnāt seem very likely to me that Capcom would witthold blog entries for three months.
I bet it didnāt seem very likely that theyād release a broken beta and then release a patch that was almost as broken either, did it? This project reeks of incompetence and mismanagement all around, so one further bizarre decision wouldnāt really surprise me.
Iām pretty sure that it was stated, ON the Capcom blog, that they wouldnāt be putting out any blog entries about HDR until the beta finishes. Itās not a matter of if you think capcom is gonna withhold blog entries; they already said they are.
Iām still completely hyped for SFHD. Itāll be fun as hell to play a new version of Super Turbo, and I like the artwork so far.
And even as buggy as the netcode is, I can still get good-playing games on it quite a lot. I love GGPO, but between the available player bug, black screen non-connects, and in-game desyncs sometimes it takes me longer to find a game on it than SFHD. Itāll be nice to have another option with a more structured lobby/match system.
I think 2df has a very good lobby system.
Yeah, itās definitely a step up from what GGPO offers. Of course, over there I tend to find mostly non-US players so the performance drops.
In perfect world weād get a fusion of all three that had GGPOās code, F2Pās game selection lobby, and SFHDās āquarter matchā lobbies. As it is I love the multiplayer lobbies in SFHD and Iām really looking foward to them - itās a cool experience to get to play and watch and bullshit like Iām in an arcade. Itās something I canāt really do locally anymore.
i completely disagree here. PC netplay is always more complicated. console, you just pop in the game, and go play.
on pc, you gotta forward ports(and learn how to do so if you donāt know), hope your hardware is good enough, then deal with the legions of computer scrubs that donāt know how to port forward. then if its emulator based(ggpo, p2p, 2df), now people gotta know what settings to setup in the emu to get proper aspect ratios, ensure they can get consistent 60fps emulation with no hiccups, make sure their controller works with the emu/game. And letās be honest, MOST people that play on ggpo are playing on horrible pc setups, or have their crap configured wrong which both chugs down the game for both players. online fg players are fucking poor, why you think most of em use keyboards supposedly?
So my point, is pc online, especially for just 1 on 1 gameplay(fighters), is far from convenient compared to console. on console, the game is designed for the one peice of hardware. The netcode is optimized to take full advantage of the one console. Not having to deal with 8437563876587365783 different pc setups and hope for the best. Since everyone is on the same hardware, theres no worries of some random assclown on the other end having shitty hardware, bogging the gameplay down. Everyone is on the same hardware, getting the same framerates and all that. netcode aside, all laggy games are almost always due to horrid connection or too far away. On pc, you have all the extra variables mentioned above to make online play worse.
Yes, theres more open ended flexibility on how to implement online play on the pc, of course. no bandwidth restrictions and all that. But a console is a much more hardware controlled environment. and most online games donāt transfer that much data so its easy to stay under the bw requirements that MS asks for.
Anyways, good art or not, HD is gonna be fun. From what I have played, I am impressed. The game is really fun, and is very different, but still competitive. Itās very refreshing to play. To us hardcore, is it that big of a deal if the art is good or not? Most will turn it off anyway. Most casual people cant tell good art from bad art, and if they could, 2d sprite based games would possibly still be relevant in the retail market. And considering its a dlc title, they donāt expect too much anyway.
this art delay should be a blessing anyway. If the art didnt fall behind, would we even get a rebalance mode? Or even other goodies? Would we even get a beta to stress test the netcode? So just imagine, if art came along with no delays, we woulda had a much more stripped down version of a game with just a paint job and probably even worse netcode. HDās netcode is not that bad, it just sucks for people that donāt have people near them, which sucks. But itās still really good and under good conditions, and at times, way more playable than ggpo IMO(my gripe here is more emu related tho). GGPO gets the upperhand tho for being able to handle such a wide variety of connection issues, like a champ
People need to stop pointing at sirlin. People need to try and be fucking respectful with your opinions, instead of being pricks, especially about shit you donāt have the facts on. Constructive critisism and opinions are just fine. But have some common courtesy. If it continues, Iāll just close the thread down.
Iāve typed way more than i would have liked
/end rant
You gotta forward ports in consoles too, itās just that consoles support UPnP, but any PC app can implement UPnP too (and thatās one of the suggestions Iāve made many times on #ggpo).
thing is tho, almost every router out there on the market is already configured to support ps3 360 and wii, out the box. so its not needed
I can more easily connect with people and have a game in GGPO, rather than with HD.
nos99: and you are just basing that off a bug, thats gonna be gone in the full version, or atleast i hope, lol
ya, HD should be easier.
crosses fingers
Totally disagree⦠I have the hardest time connecting with people on GGPO. HD I connect far more consistantly.
and youll have an even harder time if your ports arent forwarded(more like impossible), and have to wonder if the opponent did the same, correctly. not the fault of ggpo tho(sometimes), thats pc gaming for ya at times
