Blanka can jab roll, bite from 1/2 screen away, or hop back, strong roll, bite. Plus many of his normals have good range and priority, st.Short is really really good as is cr.RH.

will fierce hands reach? i dont play honda so i don’t know, i didn’t think so.

What i mean is if i launch a blanka ball 1/2 screen and under distance away, its not easy to jab him on reflex. especially since i’ll be throwing out lk/st.jab while i charge etc so its not like blanka is just sitting there for you to press jab the moment you see any movement.

Anyway, i think the match will be winnable now, as opposed to before, that’s all. If you play honda on ggpo i can show you what i mean and how wonderfully i die to Honda

This is kind of what I am saying. All his options involve roll into something else when blanka is have a screen away. So its kind of expected that he will do that and you will be ready for it. Cr.Rh is a good long range poke but i dont think it hits from half a screen away. Is st. Short the little toe kick? I thought the range on that was very short.

Roll into Bite are among his best options from half a screen but it’s not that easy to react to them immediately, and you can definitely bait Honda by doing rolls at different distances, jump straight up, etc.

Those normals don’t hit from half a screen away, but you can always walk up a bit and then do it. You’re assuming that Honda is charging d/b this whole time to get ready to headbutt a jump-in, which limits some of his options. Like Mullah said, it’s not that easy to headbutt rolls on reaction, especially with some fake-outs mixed in. Especially now that HHS can be hit in front, it’ll be interesting to see what happens when Blanka does walk-up st.short.

Also don’t forget that within certain ranges Blanka can do hop forward vert ball, which is extremely fast and hard to react to. Komoda hits people with it ALL the time.

Honda’s slaps now have a really vulnerable hitbox, and for all we know that might mean that horizontal ball can beat jab slaps. But on top of that, in ST Blanka couldn’t do strong horizontal ball over to Honda when Honda had slaps out, but now with the shorter strong ball distance he might very well be able to do strong ball into jumping short. I don’t think Honda dominated the matchup in the first place, I think it was like 6-4, but in HDR it might actually get to even.

I always thought that if honda turtled and kept blanka away, he always had a better chance of beating blanka. Whats the ideal distance Honda wants in this match up? I am curious to know. Perhaps I have been looking at this match up the wrong way.

Oh I forgot to mention, if you thought DeeJay owned Fei before…he’s really gonna kill him now. No additional priority was given to the rekka punches…just range. And DeeJays low fwd kick totally counters fei’s ground game.

To my knowledge the only Rekka punch that was tweaked was his first Fierce rekka punch. I have serious concerns that this is going to throw off his tick damage routines because you sorta have to change the strengths of the punches on the fly if the opponent is blocking them if you wanna bounce away safely.

Opponents with instant hit long range moves(Blanka, Bison, Boxer, Claw) are still gonna eat him for breakfast if they play the turtle game.

His whole game is going to be centered around his rekka punches ala SSF2. That’s the real meat of his game now more than ever… Everything else is going to be mild spice…very mild spice imo.

I know that the goal was to compress the tiers but the more I look at Fei in particular I really think he’s gonna be lost in the shuffle.

IMO all he really needed was a way to fight fireball traps because he suffers from the Honda weakness…no trip guard when jumping in and none of his attacks can counter low sweep attacks when landing. David told me he tried to tweak his moves like Honda but Fei didn’t have the same properties as honda.

I dunno if Sirlin could have left the combo factor intact for Fei’s fwd and roundhouse versions of the chicken wing. THAT would have been a much better way to go about it. Think about it. Short chicken wing with fireball invincibility but has longer recovery = can’t combo off of it and can’t be abused in the corner. His fwd and rh versions remain the same.

If I had it my way…

Short flame kick would get same properties as **ST **N.Kens jab DP.

Short CW Kick would be the only kick that could go through fireballs and have longer recovery to prevent corner combo abuse.

All 3 versions of the rekka punches would gain an equal amount of range added to their hitboxes. Either that or leave them as they are in ST but they would also have reduced damage and ZERO dizzy points.

Rekka punches would build meter the same as fireballs. His flame kicks would charge meter just like in ST. Why should Ken and Ryu get to build meter with their uppercut moves yet Fei’s is reduced?? Building meter with fei had mostly to do with blocked rekkas so that is what should have been tweaked imo. OR, A fair compromise would have been to only have the first hit of the rekka combo to build meter and not the last 2. Fei still wins with block damage anyway.

As for adding ā€œfun factorā€ moves to fei’s arsenal…I had toyed with the idea of giving fei the ability to 2 in 1 off of his low fwd or low short but it was not in the cards because it would have tweaked other characters in the game as well.

Maybe some sort of faint(fake) for either his fierce or jab rekka punch similar to bison’s low slide or ryu’s fake fireball…where the punch whiffs. Something along those lines to make him more ā€œBruce-ishā€ :karate:

Depends on who’s leading in health. Blanka is so quick and that jumping lk/mk is so good that it can be reaaaallly difficult for ST honda to get back into it if you are up against a blanka user that has really good timing.

i guess we have to trust Sirlin has done a good job.

I sure hope that this game turns out to be amazing but, with fei at least, some of the changes look like they will make him play like a totally different character and he will lose some of his flare.

But the game will be out some time this year or even next year and then we will get to see how good it really is.

The ones in bold REALLY own him. In most cases a good opponent who knows the match can pick Fei apart like a surgeon…quite easily I might add.

I know, but CigarBob didn’t agree with me when I said dj vs. fei was 8-2. Even after we played like a 30 game set of dj vs. fei, with fei winning at like a 7-3 ratio, he still kept saying it was at least 6-4.

Why Bison? Are his pokes of a higher priority?

What do you think you could have down better to change the matchup?

Matchups were I have to follow a strict keep away game plan like against fei/honda/blanka are not my strong suit. I get bored and lose focus. I think a perfect dj player always on point would never lose to a perfect fei. What can fei do against a perfect turtle dj? From full screen you get barraged with fire balls. And even when you get within the optimal footsies range for fei you can’t pressure with rekkas or cr. fierce because cr. forward literally beats everything fei has.

So really, what can fei do?

jumpsuit: honestly, i think the only thing i would change to fei, is lower his hitbox on j.forward to get past the fireball sweep trap. That’s if my mentality is to just make him better, but not give him any fun changes. That’s the ONLY thing I would change, IMO
