Besides his zoning game and that he might have the best projectile in the game -

  • Has a 3 frame standing jab along with his fast walk speed that has the most frame advantage of any 3 frame jab in the game (+4). This leads to all kinds of mixup shenanigans.
  • Has an incredibly strong mixup game. L Shuriken xx Teleport for a left right mixup that’s safe from a certain distance (near full screen). Can use his cr.HP xx Dash Cancel to continue to put pressure on opponent. His b.MK tree can lead to either a low, an overhead that ground bounces, or a safe frame trap that can be canceled into another special. After a knockdown he can use j.MK for a crossup, teleport to auto catch a forward tech (although this isn’t safe unless done rather early), TKed Shuriken mixup, more s.LP pressure, and more.
  • Fast walk speed along with what is most likely the best dash in the game.
  • Deals the best meterless damage of any character in the game that’s not a grappler or a Kazuya that can consistently EWGF 4 times in a combo.
  • Teleport with invincible startup frames lets him get out of wakeup pressure for free if you’re not in the corner.
  • With 2+ meters has a super that can punish opponents from mid screen and can be used as anti air with the right spacing (if someone is trying to cross you up, dash foward xx Super will catch them.)

Raven is probably the only character in the game that can zone and rushdown incredibly well, and can switch between the two on the fly. And quite honestly once you can perform his Wind Cross Dash Cancel consistently for his cr.HP loops and for blockstrings he’s really an easy character to play as. I’m stunned more people aren’t playing him right now I don’t think I saw anyone at NCR using him.

u thought bob had the best meterless damage?

Juri, Raven have insane damage. So no, he wasn’t kidding that Raven has one of the best meterless damage in the game.

Kicker for Raven is how that shit can be done IN MIDSCREEN.

Bob has to do the Ganchi loop of with a good starter before he can get that damage. Bob still does great damage since his damage output is higher than the average character.

Juri at least needs 2 bars or a corner. Without either of those her damage is average, and her tools for opening people up aren’t stellar.

Raven on the other hand…

… Fuck Raven

Lol @ 10 frame reaction times. Best i’ve seen was 15 and that was only for blocking shit. Considering inputing stuff also takes time, you’re looking more at something like 20 frames. Don’t confuse anticipation with reaction as well

Yo Raven looks swag. I wanna do Sagat/Raven. LOL.

15 is still fast as hell. Most of the time you are looking at 17+.

That’s why the 16 frame overhead is such a magical number. Whenever a character is given a great overhead in most games, it’s 16 frames. That’s the reason.

Raven has some pretty tricky bull shit along with the basic bull shit that makes him such a solid character… Sometimes the camera can’t even keep up with him after a teleport so It makes his mix-ups even more ambiguous

The more I play Raven and fight against good Ravens, the more I feel he’s top 3 and maybe even the best in the game… My current top 3 (no order) are the three Rs
Ryu
Raven
Rufus

I feel Raven is the most solid because I can’t think of any bad matches for him

Poor, poor Juri…

Most Characters can’t do such damage in corner and with THREE bars…
Therefore Juri is pretty slow… not.

My brother plays Juri/Raven since the beginning of SFxT… It’s ridiculous how good this team is >.<

Kazuya on paper should give raven a run for his money, teleport bs goes out the window, kaz is mist stepping as soon as a shruriken is on screen. Raven can go in front and eat an uppercut or go behind and be closer to kazuya then when he started.

At a neutral position Kazuya should be about equal.

Once Kazuya gets in raven doesn’t have an answer, qcf. kk is a shit reversal. Raven can zone and beast for damage output but he is way too easy to pick apart once you guess right and get in on him.

I take back what I said about xaiyou being average , once she’s in it gets nasty , and it hurts

but she has no normals

So… Akuma’s a let-down

yeah…his frame fighter was bad there… jumpins arent 35 frames unless you are AA’ing the opponent as they hit the ground (completely impossible for step kick and… most non cr.mk/sweep AA’s)

also step kick is probably about 7-10 frames at least so that has to be added up as well… if we put it all together:

step kick AA height is probably just after apex jump height, ie frame 20-25.
IF, YOU can actually see a jump in its first frame… then you will react just as your opponent gets to apex height (or just before) thats around frame 16-18 of the jumpin. assuming good reactions, not great ones, it was frame 18 and assuming sagats stepkick is 10 frames, you will hit the opponent at frame 28 of there jumpin (we arent counting the 3-4 frames it takes to go from back to forward here either)

so everything aligning perfectly and you are still near the limit of human reaction time.

like i said, its against “telegraphed” jumpins… you can react, but only if you really sniff one out.

this is assuming that my frame fighter is correct which i assume it isnt completely as i dont know sagats step kick data, nor have i factored in everything nor do i know if ascending jump has the same amount of frames as descending jump (if they are then we can half the jump data and say that apex jump height on a 34 frame jump is 17th frame)

but i digress, it isnt really worth arguing over… ryu will still have godlike frames, and damage from safe ass hitconfirms that even a baby could pull off with literally no reaction time needed.

Shit, Makoto’s overhead was 19 frames and people were still whining so much.

I’m using Sagat and Kazuya as my main team and I am having a lot of fun with them. Overall, I think Ryu is the more powerful character since he is capable of handling almost ever situation better than Sagat. IMO Ryu has superior wake up game, block string, mix ups, pressure and much more damaging combos. While Sagat fights grapplers better and has better AA/AAtradeoff damage.

As a non competitive player and someone just looking to have fun, I enjoy Sagat more. But any competitive player imo will want to use Ryu over Sagat.

To be fair, overheads get better when you have 4 other mix-ups in conjunction to the overhead. Makoto standing next to you is panic attack worthy lol.

Forward roll into teleport helps relieve corner pressure.

Raven’s big weakness comes in his lack of anti-air which is fairly significant considering the strength of air attacks in this game.

But overall I feel he is very very strong. I am playing Raven/Nina right now.

Xiaoyu is butt. Once people get used to fighting her she’s gonna have a real tough time opening people up since she has no mixup options and her only overhead is 20+ frames. Plus she has a non-existent midrange game and she gets rushed down free.

Chris G makes her look good, but that’s because he’s Chris G. He makes Sean look good in 3S.

Xiaoyu is most likely going to be another Cammy in that the point isn’t so much to hurp durp high/low people as it is to frame trap them to death. Average players love having easy mode high/low but you don’t need that just to open people up in a game with solid block pressure.

As long as frame traps are strong in this game (as they seem since jabs are strong and you can actually do tight block strings in this game) she should be fine once she gets next to people. It’s just she pretty much has to be run second because she’s not getting there on her own without some hailmary shit it seems.

It would help if throws weren’t ass and there was a guard system of some type but I see people learning to open people up with Cammy and Xiaoyu soon enough.

juri tools for opening people is honestly pretty mediocre. but shit, she’s so good at almost everything that i don’t really care. but she isn’t S tier by any means. most of her issues from sf4 are still here.
