Official Sparky Thread - Sparky Jr USB

just a fyi that i am back. finished my move in for my new home and first thing was ordering internet XP so i am back online and action sort of once i unpack my tools and sticks.

grats on the move. welcome back… …now get back to it!

Well, I’m happy to report that after confirming with 32teeth, the project works. The original program loaded up fine and the modified colors were just a few edits away. The arc eyes light up just as d3v wants them to. I’m impressed. As long as you take your time planning out your wiring the syi is the limit here guys.

Much props 32teeth. I will be ordering another for my personal project. Pictures by the weekend

@spenz, im glad to see things worked out and were you able to complete your mission  now some pics please :stuck_out_tongue:
@32teeth, thanx for the additional info / walkthrough
@ mufasa2, great to see you back! hopefully things went smooth moving and you can pick up things where you left them

@myself, stop being poor so you can get back on track with this project. im stuck right now because funds are pretty short atm, and theres couple more things i need to even for just testing :frowning: i kno i will need another sparky for what i am trying to accomplish, so thas first on my list before anything else. i guess its not too bad since i havent made up my mind on exactly how i want to do things. but i got that retarded feeling that it will be easier for me to figure exactly what i want to do once i have test setup i can visual see and practice with.

btw anyone here have experience with autocad electrical (autodesk)?

most use Eagle CAD CadSoft Online: Download

Here is an image of Spenzalii’s install (hope you don’t mind)

He also sent me a video with the test pattern lights lighting up (but will need his permission to post)
@Spenzalii, let me know if i can post the video

Let me see if d3v minds on the video. Since it’s his project I’m working on I figure I’d let him decide on the big reveal. Although I could mave a video from the inside of the case. Decisions…

I’ll take some more pics of the inside this week. Ran into a slight problem with the masterstrike that I have to sort out and it should be done.

A short sneak peak from the inside would be fine. But we save a full video for when we’re ready for a big reveal. A stick is like a flower after all, when she is ready, then she will open up her petals to you.

Ah, that movie has quotes for days, doesn’t it…

I’ll get the inside video done tonight. Just enough to show you guys I got the programmer to work

that quote can go all sorts of wrong :stuck_out_tongue:

That would be very much appreciated.
Also can’t wait to see the whole of it!

The quote is an ongoing joke from me and d3v’s last collaboration, El Guapo. The quote is a scene from the movie ‘3 Amigos’, as seen here:

It also explailns the avi I have for teh moment. NOw, if you ask why the stick was called El Guapo in the first place, that’s another story

you need two more stick, El Hefe and Fat Mike.

i knew that i was the villain dude from the three amigos as your avatar, geez i feel ancient now

move went well. just slow because of my working hours and all. but i have all my tools. the stick, arceyes and the board sitting out so this weekend will be full of fun and questions/assistance so hope spenz or 32teeth will be around

You may be onto something buddy!

I’ll be around. Sparky works just fine, but having some other unexpected issues. I have a solution I don’t care for, but it will work. Just e-mail or PM me and we may be able to get together

I added this to the first post. reposting here as first post sometimes gets overlooked

HOW TO…
A few people have been emailing these questions so i thought best to include in the post

How can i update my config without having any programming experience?
Well, for the current version, if you are using an FTDI programmer like the USB BUB (recommended) or SparkFuns FTDI Basic Breakout then it is relatively easy.

Here’s how.
***1. ***Get the latest code from our public SVN

*a. *Your best option is to use an SVN client. For window we recommend Tortoise SVN and for Mac we use Cornerstone (although you can find free ones for Mac just the same.

*b. *‘check out’ the repository.

***2. *** Update your setup

*a. *navigate to the folder trunk/Processing Files/Sparky and continue navigating to your preferred OS version. You will see 2 folders (application.macosx and application.windows) inside YOUR correct folder you will see an application named Sparky, double click to run

*b. * the configuration editor will now launch. play around, change the button colors as you see fit.

*c. * once you are happy with your setup, click the ‘Save Config File’ and the program will save a new SparkyConfig.h configuration file to the Arduino Files folder

***3. *** Upload the Code

*a. * open your Arduino IDE (if you haven’t yet, download it)

*b. * open the Sparky.pde file from the folder trunk/Arduino Filed/Sparky

*c. * connect your USB-BUB or FTDI Breakout to the Sparky Jr FTDI Header (labeled ‘g’ in the diagram of the PCB above)

*d. * click the upload icon in the Arduino IDE. C’est Tout!!!

*e. * enjoy your new light up pattern!!!

Let me say again if I can do it, you can do it. And if you can’t figure it out, 32teeth will be more than willing to help you. Every question I had, even the silly ones, was answered quickly until we got the lights right.

And I want one of the blue ones…

very nice spenz. two more days then i can crack mine open and have at it

Ahhh, ENIG finish. Wish it wasn’t so damn expensive, looks so nice :\
