Honestly, I thought I was gonna be all over the Vita with how much it had to offer over the original PSP, but as of right now, I haven’t even touched it in two weeks. I don’t really travel anywhere to necessitate “portable gaming,” and if I did travel, I’d whip out my cell phone and play some Nintendo 64 on it. I’ve maybe played a total of 2 hours on it.

Someday…really, we should already have had the psp’s level of functionality on launch…but some idiots were too concerned with “Exclusive Content”…that’s gonna take for-fucking-ever to come out in trickles and gasps. They didn’t think to give us something to tide us over in the meantime. Getting there, though.
And what is the point of Gamestop offering downloadable psp titles if the prices are the same as psn?
Lastly, is there an ongoing (updated more recently than March) compatibility list for psp games on Vita? I want some more fighters…maybe Kof Orochi Saga (damn shame snk won’t release the best games in this series, 97 and 98, separately for 6.99 like they did with the more primitive prequels), but nobody seems to have tested it to see if it’s compatible.
I have a quick question what Video converter program do you guys use to convert videos into MP4 to play on the vita? Tried searching everywhere but every program you have to pay or giving me errors. Thanks in advance.
Im not sure about the Vita but for when I convert vids for my psp I use SUPER. Im thinking that they should be able to play the same type of file.
I use Aiseesoft Total Media Converter. I always have to convert videos so I can watch them on the ps3. I’ll never put a movie on my Vita.
Man, Im so freakin’ hooked on that Disgaea game. That shit is super fun.
Man, everywhere I look I see people complaining how there are no games for the Vita. So, out of curiosity I looked to see how many games are on that shit. Man, there are like 40 games or more on that bitch. People just like to complain. These motherfuckers should just shut the fuck up and break out their psp’s or go buy one since they’re dirt cheap. It also just so happens that the ones that are super vocal about there being no games are the ones that dont really care about new games but want ps1/psp game support more than anything.
Any good arcade style schmups on the PSP like Dodonpachi? Doesn’t matter if it’s the game is localized or not.

All the PSP shmups I know about:
DariusBurst (though it’s incredibly tame, especially if you had the chance to play the arcade sequels). Probably the best original (ie. developed for PSP) shmup on the system.
Star Soldier (PS2 port, can play with ‘tate’ control)
A not-that-great port of Super Stardust.
A port of Strikers 1945+ (Korea only, crappy port)
And retro collections like Gradius Collection, Parodius Collection Salamander Portable.
There was also a new Cho Aniki game, and Sengoku Cannon (lots of slowdown)
And any shooter on SNK Classics or Capcom Classics Collection (Last Resort, Varth, etc.)
Yeah. There wasn’t much on PSP to write home about without emulating.
PS. For video on Vita, it’s accepted any mp4 video I’ve thrown at it, without having to convert anything. There’s so much stuff you can grab from Youtube, Vimeo, Dailymotion etc, so I use a Flash grabber like keepvid.com or the program JDownloader (there are tons of Firefox or Chrome extensions that grab streaming videos). If there’s something specific that you want to convert, try Handbrake or Mp4 Converter by VSevensoft.
closest is Stardust Delta…though not really a shump…but its fun.
annoyed at lack of new games/expanded library if Sony is trying to keep things legit, it has to learn we want ‘more’ than what they are giving us.
With Persona 4 Golden confirmed for NA release, I finally have an excuse to purchase a Vita!
Thanks for the replies guys. Seems like the only thing close to the style of schmups that I like is that Strike Witches port that’s coming out on this summer. Also I remember there was another loli-style schmup that was being developed for the PSP but I forgot what it was. Shame there’s no Dodonpachi PSP game though.
And as for P4G, I’ll probably pre-order the game, or a LE version of it, if one is being made for the NA release, and just bide my time til I can afford a Vita.

Oh I forgot, there’s also NeoGeo Heroes Ultimate Shooting which is very Cave-ish. When I moved recently, I just threw the UMD away… something I rarely do. But you might like it more than me.

Oh I’ll be all over Strike Witches.

puts on thinking cap
…I got nothing. Why’d you get a go instead of a 3000? That’s like THE most limited form of modern portable gaming. With a 3000 you coulda just bought a second battery.
considers giving cap back to Mr. Wing and taking the mogwai instead
Target has a similar deal for the Vita…but with Unit 13 instead of MK.
Still gonna wait for a revision…but Disgaea and Persona 4 are looking quite tempting.
Did they hack it yet?
Any idea when Sony will turn on the ability for the vita to play PSOne classics? The day they do it, I’ll start playing again.
Just bought mines, thanks for this!
The Go’s controls S-U-C-K also. All too often when manufacturers are obsessed with compactness they fail to take the important issue of ergonomics into consideration. This is one of those times.
