PSP v.2 with video output… kinda cool. Guess I’ll have to try to trade my PSP in…

What for? It’s smaller, TV-capable, with a different (not necessarily better) battery. Who was complaining about the PSP being too big?! I wasn’t. It still has a shitty-ass design and one nub. Oh, but it comes in white and silver! Wow

Well, the TV output is a nice touch. Smaller is nicer, the PSP was a little big for my tastes (I’m used to a DS Lite in my pocket) and they might do some other tweaks to it.

…and they might not

A fighting game capable d-pad out the box and an analog stick that tilts instead of slides are all that is missing.

If you were expecting PSP2 kind of stuff like dual analog sticks, pressure sensitive buttons, and battery life like a GBA SP then there is something wrong witcha.

Did Sony mention when PSN was going to be online for the PSP? I’d really like to download some cheap ass PS1 games.

If the D-pad is more responsive and the LCD’s response time faster (no ghosting), then Sony fixed just about everything that was wrong with the original PSP… I wouldn’t mind if they made it easier to navigate music without having to turn on that enormous screen, and others wanted internal memory and another analog… but that’s way overboard and would alienate all original PSP owners.

Also, with video out (that homebrew video out via USB wasn’t practical) and the ability to cache UMD data… homebrew for legitimate, non-pirate use is admittedly becoming little more than a novelty. I use PDF readers and a calculator program and other random crap, but a ‘true’ homebrew scene (like real, original games) never really took off, and the need to hack your PSP was greater in 2005 (to play memstick video at higher res than 320x240, rip the UMD to stick to save battery life and reduce loading, use an Internet browser, and personalize your background) than in 2007.

All they need now is that damn PSP Store to open up! Add random shit to the store like book readers and dictionaries. PSP is a portable laptop replacement when used to its full potential.

Dood. If Sony even took it that far they’d be shitting themselves silly happy. Whatever the hell that means. The PSP would just be so bad ass (and to remedy that whole big screen just to navigate through music, make a remote with an LCD on it… wireless).

If they can make the battery life 15+ hrs for video playback and gaming, I’d be all over that. I’m not feeling that $199 price tag though. DS Lite came out the same price as DS Fat ($129) instead of the old price of $149, why can’t PSP do the same?

That price tag is just for the entertainment packs iirc.

33% lighter, 19% slimmer.

Thats… it? The thing is still like a little mini brick.

Needs to be much thinner, smaller in general (even sacrifice a tiny bit of screen for it, not too much, just a touch), plus a clamshell style face cover for it.

Doesn’t sound like they made enough of a change there.

yeah 199 is for the new psp/Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade/ 1gig stick.

It looks like they did something major to increase battery life… the new stock batteries actually have a lower mAh count than the old batteries (1200 vs 1800)… why shrink the battery if the hardware’s consumption isn’t any more efficient?

Yeah, I was thinking a better remote would fix any problem with navigating music. It can’t be hard at all give the PSP a remote+small LCD… hundreds of Sony’s audio players use the exact same thing.

They also said it’s got quicker load times.

And you can recharge it with a USB cable.

Now that’s a damn fine improvement.

I think a lot of people were expecting a PSP2 or a super update like with the baby PSOne and the fits-in-my-glove-box PSTwo (i’ll be getting that latest iteration to replace my questionable PS2).

I ain’t buying it. Sony’s fooling you. You’ll see…

It’s not a complete rehaul but the improvements are nice enough for me to trade in for the new one.

i’ll trade mine in once the new firmware it has been hacked. and for the record the only homebrew program i used is the ebook. i got a bunch of teacher’s solution manuals i can view on the psp anytime is pretty damn convenient.

What, cheating?

They mentioned faster loading of UMDs, but I’m not sure if that’s just with 333 MHz or if its a hardware change. Anyways, here’s a more direct comparison of the original PSP and the new slim one. I wonder what the piano black one will cost (the one without Daxter/MC/Family guy) I’m thinking $169 still… huh?

The new PSP has more RAM to load faster, and the battery life is about 8-10 hours (what they’re shooting for)
