Official PSVita/PSP chat thread

Yeah, the firmware keys from official firmware can be different than the custom firmwares, so yeah, flashing an OFW update on top of a CFW will brick your PSP pretty bad. The best way to reinstall official firmware is via Pandora, so hopefully you have the battery and memory stick set up for the Pandora process.

HOWEVER, since you say you have 3.5x, you could try updating to 3.71 using this program and following tutorial. The risk involved is, your history with custom firmwares may cause incompatibility problems in future official updates… but it’s all risky, unfortunately, although Pandora is the safest method to install firmwares.

I can help with whichever you prefer to do (Pandora or the homebrew downgrader)

Here’s my problem - my PSP was modded for me. So I don’t know what process was involved in doing it.

Well, the memory stick appears to be fine in ā€œmagicā€ status, 'cause that Genesis emulator I picked up last night actually runs games. Sadly, I can only look at Zombies Ate My Neighbors and Boogerman in their demo/attract modes, as no buttons work on them. ZAMN was the first game I wanted on the genesis emulator…top priority. Kid Chamelon and a few others actually work fine though. The games look amazing on the psp screen…they actually look better than what I remember back in the day on a regular television.

heh, Battletoads & Double Dragon = HILARIOUS. Yes, I had to get it. I got the regular Battletoads as well. It’s one of those ā€œso bad it’s amazing!ā€ things.

I’m pretty sure if you use a Pandora’s battery with MMS you can put official firmware 3.71? Can somebody confirm?

and don’t worry about it being hard, it’s balls easy

using DC3 or 4 or 5 is your best bet to use. you have an option of installing the official firmware or CFW.

depending on the version, 4 installs 3.80 and 5 installs 3.90. i didn’t get to use the older versions so i’m not sure what are the older DC installs.

i tried to use DC5 to create the magic stick, had some issues getting the .bin file, did it on DC4 with 3.80 and no problems at all

I used the Pandora downgrader to drop my CFW Phat PSP to the base firmware 1.50… I tried both versions of DC, and while it installed 3.71 or 3.80 fine, I had problems upgrading to any other official firmware. After I downgraded to 1.50, I upgraded my PSP to official 3.95 (eww official firmware) with no problem.

hmm, I have a phat psp with a few dead pixels but works perfectly fine and has cfw. Not sure if I want to spend $ for the upgrade to slim yet.

My friend came down the last weekend with his Slim. I didn’t think upgrading to the Slim was all that, but after seeing his, if I had the money I probably would.

this shit just doesn’t work no matter what I try, apparently. I found an Aliens vs. Predator cache, and it still doesn’t work. First of all, it seems everyone naturally has a ā€œCacheā€ folder in CPS2 except me of course…that bullshit didn’t appear for me…of course. I made a ā€œCacheā€ folder and put the shit in there…still nothing. I’ve put the cache in the game’s folder, nothing. I put it in the goddamn ROM folder…nothing. God Himself does not want me to have this particular game, it seems. I already know the next 10000 things I try won’t work either.

Thanks a lot, Capcom and whoever for this particular game not EVER coming out legitimately on any system, ever. I’d love to choke the life out of something right now.

On the other hand…the genesis emulator actually works great so far…well, at least with a few of the games I have. Kid Chameleon brings back some good old memories.

million: Which firmware do you have? pm me and maybe I can help. I have avp working on cps2

has anyone here tried out Patapon? that game is fun.

You may actually be using a version that no longer uses the cache folder. I have that version, but I’m also playing on a slim, and I think that particular version is slim only.

yea, played the hell out of the demo. thinking about picking it up someday.:woot:

No cps2psp cache folder needed here either. Just roms. My mvspsp emu uses caches for the newer games, but stuff like aof2, kof 94 and samsho2 need no cache.

So I have a dilemma here. I want to get that red God of War PSP when it comes out but I’m not sure if I want to hack it or not. Can someone give me kind of a Pro/Con list of going either route? Also, does the current firmware(not sure which one it is atm, I sold my launch PSP over a year and a half ago) support the Pandora battery hack?

^^ if you want to use pandora to make your psp a cfw, yes. but if you want to convert the battery or jigsaw memory stick. possibly no. i heard that the new psp won’t allow it to convert the battery or the memory stick or something like that due to $ony’s hardware revisions.

i’m assuming thats what you are asking for. i’m not sure what do you mean support pandora hack.

such goddamn fucking asshole bullshittfgh gfhj sksfjvbzklbnmfd. I got a new memory stick (Sony Pro Duo 1 gig) and formatted it since I wanted to keep #1 ā€œmagicalā€. I put the shit on there and still…nothing working.

I get a blue screen with that directory stuff at the top: ms0:/PSP/GAME/cps2psp/roms/
folder icon avsp/
folder icon xmvsf Folder/

I hit either button that supposedly launches the game and there’s nothing…it only acts as if I’m opening the folder…because of course I wanted to see even more of that beautiful blue screen. I’ve put the shit in ā€œGameā€, ā€œGame150ā€, and ā€œGame371ā€, and it’s all the same result. I will never be able to play that or any other cps2 game, because apparently God won’t allow it. He’s apparently ok with letting me play a Genesis emulator though…for some reason that’s cool with Him.

*yeah, this is all on a Slim.

MAME still gives the same 80020148 or whatever # it is error.

If other games work fine with that emulator and directory setting, I would look else where for the source of the problem…

yeah you will need to find the working version of the game. If your emulator loads up then the problem isn’t the emulator.
