Paul Shirley’s Can I Keep My Jersey? & Phil Jackson’s The Last Season.
Both are told in journal-like formats but that’s where the similarities end. Shirley’s book is about how he skipped from team to team - playing in the NBA, Europe, and the minors - in the span of about 3/4 years. The tone on that one is very humorous/sarcastic/critical. Jackson’s book is about the '03-'04 Lakers when they had Shaq, Kobe, Gary Payton & Karl Malone. It’s a very serious book detailing the trials & tribulations of that team and the clash of egos that was occurring between Kobe & Shaq.
I have David Halberstam’s The Breaks of the Game (about the '79-'80 Blazers) and the Simmons book in my Amazon cart. Can’t resist that $12 price tag.
I’m gonna stay here. The NFL thread is being bombarded with idiocy atm.
Jack McCallum’s 7SoL is good. I have the Free Darko book. It’s interesting, but not super informative. It does have some fun metaphors for individual players and it does make fun of Dwyane Wade’s lack of personality. Probably worth buying for the art and charts alone though.
Re NFL Thread: The only people interested in debating the Saints & the Pats are well…Saints & Pats fans.
The paperback edition of 7 Seconds or Less is out of print right now. Only thing available on Amazon is the Kindle edition and I don’t have Kindle. :annoy:
Oh well, I’ll check eBay for it. Thanks for the reminder about the Free Darko book though…
There’s no college b-ball thread, so I’m gonna ask here…anyone watch UConn vs. Kentucky last night? That John Wall sure is something. Insane in the beginning of the game with like 10 points and 3 steals in 3 minutes. Then, he sits and goes cold, and then goes nuts again in the last 3 minutes.
It was a heated game, but yeah, that 4th quarter was sad. Once the Lakers got a little bit of separation, it looked like the Jazz just lost all the wind in their sails. A little became a lot became a blow out.
As they should. You can’t come back against the Lakers. You can play 48 minutes and beat them, but there’s no coming back. Once you’re down, Kobe keeps you down.
Wasn’t that long ago tho. Maybe 4 seasons? I don’t think they did anything with it. I believe they lost in the 1st round. That’s when T-Mac was rippin’ shyt up.
They can’t be blamed that year though - T-Mac was on the active playoff roster, there was no way they could have won a playoff round with his loser aura stinking the place up.
Four seasons ago Shaq won a championship, the Nets won their division, and Rafael Araujo was still on the Raptors.
