The Lakers management are certainly looking long term. Phil want 2 years worth 15 million, less travel, and full control on staff decisions–no other coach in the nba has got it that good. And, as we all know, Jim Buss can be very stubborn. In 2014, the Lakers will have a lot of cap room money to throw at some upcoming big names like John Wall, Kyle Irving, Lou Deng, Rudy Gay, and so forth.
As if cap space really matters for the Lakers.

Here’s the million dollar question: do you expect to make it to the NBA Finals with Mike D’Antoni?
Lakers should’ve lied and said Phil’s demands were too high and they couldn’t make a deal, or even that Phil just turned it down.
Saying you unanimously decided that D’Antoni was better for this roster and situation over the guy who got you 5 titles is some shit that even D’Antoni doesn’t need.
I would be happy for the guy if he pulled it off and won a title in LA, but don’t make it harder on him like that.

When Howard re-ups he will have Howard,Gasol,Nash,and Kobe for at-least two years, I never liked D’antoni but you damn right I expect him to make the finals.
I like how the knee jerk reaction to a Lakers team whose primary problem was defense was to bring in a great offensive coach.
To be fair though, his frontcourt in Phoenix was Marion, Diaw, and Amare…of fucking course the defense was not elite.
Also I am really enjoying watching the Raptors blow another close game by giving up offensive rebounds. It is always the same thing, which is what I appreciate about it. Consistency. Thanks Raptors.
I don’t really think is was just the defense for Brown’s departure. Dr. Buss has been wanting a team resembling the Showtime Lakers for awhile now.
The combination of losing and the games being boring was a huge part of it. Dr. Buss only liked the triangle because it was a winning system he never thought it was exciting at all.
He’s getting old and a lot of people think he won’t last that long, which is part of the reason Shaq’s jersey retirement is so fast.
I still don’t like Pringles but if he’s bringing Mcmillan for defense it might not be that bad. Only thing I’m worried about is the lack of shooters on this team,age and MWP.
Random note: 2012 is the last year Karl Malone gets a paycheck from the Lakers 
Also, cap space issues for the Lakers? Their new tv deal is roughly 150,000,000 per year. That deal alone covers their players. This franchise is set for the long run and only has to worry about selling tickets.
