The Royce White saga is getting out of hand.
Even more proof that all fan bases have dickheads. Great job small market fans for proving that all of us can be assholes.
One of those tweeters has only 9 followers, another only 4. Its always those no-followers Twitter pages that seem to talk the most shit to celebs and athletes. They do it to troll and get some attention, get some followers too maybe.
At the same time, no other professional athlete or prospect in any sport has gotten the accommodations that White’s gotten. I’m not sure if anyone else would have drafted him, and if they did I don’t know if they would have been as patient with him as Houston has been.
The antics that he’s pulling are worthy of all this Twitter-hate and more, the question is just whether or not he gets a free pass because he’s got brain problems.
He should not be bitching about the Rockets on Twitter though, that invites people to see it and criticize him on Twitter as well. That’s well earned, keep your personal stuff personal. Otherwise it’s a fair invitation for stupid people to call you stupid things.
Even if he wasn’t mentioning it on twitter, I’m pretty sure the majority of those idiots would still hassle him. The Rockets knew of his anxiety issues before they drafted him that was part of the reason everybody expected for him to go late first round maybe even second round.
As an organization you run those risk if you decide to draft a player with mental/personal problems. Dez Bryant of the Dallas Cowboys has gotten plenty of accommodations so that part is wrong, and the only mental issues he suffers from is being an idiot.
Dez Bryant was told he could NOT do things, like having a curfew, not being able to drink, being escorted to team events by security. Those are different from the accommodations that the Rockets have mad for Royce White. Some might call them…not accommodations at all.
I cannot think of any other professional athlete that was able to renegotiate the terms of a standard scaled rookie contract to include the costs of an RV and drivers that would take him to road games instead of flying on chartered flights with the rest of his teammates. White’s able to skip out on practices and games provided he meets with a therapist.
Which goes back to the question of why the fuck would you draft him knowing he is a mental case. This is why the Spurs have been good for so long, they stay away from guys like that and draft coachable players with decent fundamentals.

So basically Dez Bryant should be escorted by security to events because he just can’t stay out of trouble, but a guy that is suffering from a disability that’s possibly genetic that’s is also covered by the ADA (American with Disability Act) shouldn’t expect any accommodations? Right I get it.
The Rockets simply could have passed on him they didn’t, they took the guy with a known disability. The organization is at fault because they knew the risk and did it anyway.
I don’t follow college ball in detail, but disability-aside, was Royce White worth taking the chance on?

Ummm they took him and have tried to work with him. He said he would work but has not put up his part. It takes to tango. There are risk with taking any players but some players agree to do their part of the agreement. This guy is not retarded. He has an anxiety issue that somehow he coped with in college.

If you’ve ever dealt with somebody that has anxiety or panic disorders you would know how debilitating they are. People look down on others that have “Mental Disorders” because they don’t understand them. It’s part of the reason no one speaks up about them.

Royce White has all the talent…to have an Anthony Mason type career, complete with off-the-court issues.
But looks like he won’t even get the playing time to do that.
Should have just quietly requested a trade behind closed doors if that’s the case. Other GMs now will be very apprehensive to have him on their roster.
Any problems a player may have can be dealt with when they’re playing in the amateur ranks with kids, ie. college ball but the NBA is a cutthroat business ruled by money! Millions of people play basketball around the world every year, but only 450 are allowed into the NBA fraternity.
See, the NBA is like the porn industry. One, not only are a lot of basketball phrases double entendres with sexual connotations (attacking the rim, penetrating the defense, finishing strong at the hole, etc) but if you’re a male porn star doing straight porn you can’t be bitching about your employment and shitty pay because there are a thousand other guys standing in line ready to replace you!
Teams will try to help a player out because they think they’re worth the investment and will develop into a solid enough player and will help the team win championships but if that player doesn’t want that help it’s bye-bye GTFO go play in Asia.
