Unplug the 7 pin ribbon cables from the Kitty, and try again. Make sure nothing is pressed or held on the stick. If it still goes into bootloader mode (play 1 and player 4 leds), unplug everything from the kitty except the outgoing USB cable, and the large connector for the stick and buttons. Do remove all others from the Kitty including the large ribbon connecting the VLX box to the kitty. Plug it in. You wont see the LEDs do anything, but you can check to see if the Kitty shows up in the game controller’s applet. Let me know what you find.
When I unplug both of the 7pin ribbon cables from the kitty and plug the VLX back into my computer, It is still recognized, but the back button does not show up when pressed. However when I plug the only one of the cables to the vlx7 to daughter the back button is recognized as # 9 again. I decided to try this method and use the VLX on my xbox360, it is recognized and I can use the stick’s directions and buttons, but the guide button does not work and the LEDs dont light up at all.
Just to make sure we’re on the same page here:
- With all of the ribbons in their appropriate spots, plugging the stick into anything would result in the player 1 and player 4 buttons showing bootloader mode, even if nothing was pressed on the stick.
- Flashing the firmware caused the stick to show up properly as a Kitty in the game controllers applet after the firmware flash. All directions and buttons work, no perma-lit buttons.
- Removing only the ‘VLX7_TO_360’ ribbon cable’, Kitty properly shows up on PC when plugged in with nothing pressed and directions and play buttons work. Also autodetects and goes into 360 mode
Is that correct?
Are you absolutely certain that seven pin cable still connected is in the spot labelled ‘VLX7_TO_DAUGHTERBOARD’, and that ribbon cable goes to the panel with the guide and back button?
The seven pin ribbon cable that came with the kitty is not plugged into anything, and nothing is plugged into the ‘VLX7_TO_360’ spot of the Kitty and nothing is plugged into the 7 pin connector on the black VLX box?
Yes, everything you said 1-3 is all correct. I am absolutely sure that the 7pin cable is in the spot labled “vlx to daugher” I have completely unplugged the other 7pin cable from the kitty and the black vlx box. Everything you said is correct.
Any other mods or boards done to the stick previously or still there?
The symptoms say that the VLX black box is pulling down the Guide line when its plugged in, which so far no one else that’s used a VLX kitty has seen before. There’s even a delay in the bootloader to keep that from affecting things, but yours is pulling it down low for a (electronically speaking) very long time. That’s not normal.
I guess the good news is that the board appears to be fully working as it should. A workaround for the problem wouldn’t be difficult, but would almost certainly require soldering and a little dremelling.
I have not modded the stick at all previously. It was brand new when I got it. I’ve only tried the VLX kitty with it. How would I go about trying to fix the problem? I dont know much about soldering and demeling.
So say if i got a Madcatz TE-S stick the TE Kitty will still work on it but i would have to get the additional cable kit for it like you said right? and i get the additional cable kit from you or can i get it from a second dealer that sells your TE Kitty like Lizardlick?
Safest course of action then would be to send it to me. I’ll take care of the work and mail it back to you. If you’re in the US, I’ll cover the shipping back, but if you’re outside of the US we’ll have to work something out because international shipping is spendy.
- Correct.
- At the moment, I’m the only source for the TE-S harnesses. They didnt exist when LL last received Kittys.
Ok thanks
Dear Toodles, I think Ill take your advice and mail it to you. I wouldnt want to mess things up. I am located in CA. Email me or vice versa, so we can work things out. Thank you for your time.
Toodles. I have two issues. My first issues is that this doesn’t seem to work on SF4 AE PC. I tried forcing xbox and as long as forcing xbox is holding guide while plugging in nothing is happening. In the control panel when I hold guide and plug in nothing happens. I only get Kitty TE when I plug it in normally.
Also, my LT button will not work for some reason.
Thanks
To force 360 mode on a PC, if you follow the instructions you will need to set the top sliding switch (on the turbo bay) to ‘RS’ and hold down ‘Turbo’ while plugging the stick in.
Once it registers, slide the switch back to ‘DP’.
If your PC recognises your 360 motherboard but you’re still having trouble getting AE to detect your stick, then close the game and set your slider to ‘LS’. Restart AE and hopefully it should now detect it in the controller options. Move it back to ‘DP’ afterwards.
EDIT: corrected
Nothing I try allows my pc to detect it in xbox360 mode. When I plug in my old dual modded stick. By default it comes up as MC Cthulu fight stick or something and when I hold down guide and plug it in it comes up as Arcade Edition Fightstick TE.
When I plug my kitty in. By default it comes up as kitty class TE, then I put it in RS and hold guide or turbo and it just says installing drivers, install failed, then nothing comes up at all. Sucks that AE for Pc won’t detect the kitty board, but I should at least be able to force 360 and that should work.
1.Just slide switch on RS and Turbo button held. Dont touch Guide, that’ll go into bootloader mode.
2. Kitty works quite well for AE on PC, as long as your slider is on LS.
I think it’s my PC then. Thanks for that toodles, I’ve been having s river issues since I’ve installed Win 7 64 Ultimate.
As far as the LT not working or lighting up? I opened it up and everything looks ok afaik
Open the stick up, remove the two wires going to LT from both the button and the distro block. Plug the stick in, take one of the wires, and plug it into both of the QDs sticking out of the distro block; the LT LED should light up. Repeat using the other wire and post up what you see. If niether light up the LED, take some pictures and post them up.
Just received my VLX Kitty back from Toodles. Everything works perfectly on my VLX now. THANK YOU SO MUCH.
I wish I had a better idea what was causing the problem but it’d take a pretty in depth autopsy to figure out. So I just swapped it out, and made sure the new one worked peachy in mine. Enjoy.
Sorry. It wasn’t AE PC not detecting my Kitty. It’s actually the XBOX portion of the MOD not working. I hate to be in here so often, so after this general troubleshoot I think I’ll be completely aware and not need any assistance. But for some reason PS3 works but the XBOX side isn’t. Any quick troubleshooting options?
pics of wiring, so we can see anything you mite of missed.
I want to say the USB wires on the Xbox 360 side isn’t secure but that is just a hunch.
None of us can be sure with out seeing the wiring
