Official complain about the new forum layout thread

I miss the Bar at the top with recent thread posts and news posts. I thought this shit would be fixed by now, it’s really terrible.

I am having a difficult time navigating the SfxT character threads ( not surprising ) I can’t seem to get to the Lars threads at all… Even from google I just get redirected to the home area… Not sure if its the fact I use an iPhone for a good portion of my srk surfing or not???

I’ve gotten over the way the site looks, but some stuff still needs to be tweaked out. I guess that will happen in time. I still think having a like and agree button is the stupidest shit ever. What’s the point?

Dislike button is lol, though.

Yeah Dislike should stay. Needs to be more apparent, though.

Is there any word on improvements being made on the layout?

I figured I could just save a single character as a workaround but forum seriously needs a true clear. It’s especially silly to see an [auto] saved draft after I’ve already submitted another post

The agree button lets you agree with someone without having to quote their post and say “ya this”.

For example, if someone gives really good character advice, you can agree with the advice you’d take, disagree with the one you don’t think would work, and in the end you have a much more concise thread. Instead of 10 pages with 5 posts of content and a bunch of people just agreeing/disagreeing, it allows someone to give a yes/no without having to write up an entire (empty) reply.

For example I could have just hit disagree with you on this post, but I wanted to let you know why (JUST THIS ONCE).

You’re not really seeing the point though. The “Like” button satisfied both the need of supporting the content in question or generally fulfilling the need of agreement. The mere choice of having to pick one out of the 2 seems a bit futile. We reach the same conclusions when one is necessary.

Nobody ever hates being wrong so I’m sure you will dislike this post too. Will I be the first to reach 100?

You can like stuff without agreeing with it, and you can agree with stuff without liking it.

If someone says “Man, SFxT sucks” they can agree with the fact that it sucks, or show that they like the fact that it sucks. That’s the difference. :stuck_out_tongue:

The name in notifications by email might want to be changed. They’re sent from ‘tcannon’ atm<br>

So the new live editor plugin just came on, and it looks pretty nice. Basically it shows how your post is going to look as you’re typing it, so there’s no need for a preview now. What you see is 1:1 what you get.<br><br>Oh, and you can also mark all discussions as read, or just the thread you’re on.<br><br>And mods/admins are testing out the new sig options right at this moment. If you’ll notice, I already put the link to the handy-dandy FAQ in my sig. Still got some stuff in there that could break the site, so it’s not open to the public. It’s just there for us to show you guys it’s being worked on. ^_^<br>

Something I don’t really see being talked about is how gimped the search function is now.<div><br></div><div>I don’t see a way to:</div><div><br></div><div>Search specific threads</div><div>Search specific subforums</div><div>Get advanced Search Options(date ranges, by poster, etc.)</div><div><br></div><div>And the maximum number of search results is also messing up for me.</div><div><br></div><div>This is on top of the forum being less functional, literally hurting my eyes to look at, etc.</div><div><br></div><div>This feels like it was rolled out too quickly.</div>

In some ways, yes it was, and the admins are working very hard to get this site to where it should be. They said it’d be back Monday, though, and it was back Monday. Should they have taken another week to get the kinks ironed out? Maybe, but this still wasn’t as bad from the switch from VBulletin to Xenforo.<br><br>Anywho, more functionality is being gained/restored at a very quick pace. You guys should already notice the live editor, which is super-sweet, imo, and eliminates the need for a preview since what you see is literally how the post will look. Signature editing is coming soon (mods are already testing this now), and much, much more.<br><br>This forum software is actually really cool, and I think you guys will agree once all the smoke clears and the problems are addressed.<br><br>(and about the search function, I agree to an extent, but being able to search three-character strings now is REALLY helpful, since it includes several helpful bits like being able to search for stuff like “bnb”<br><br>This one’s still being worked on too, for those curious.)<br>

to be positive, not dealing with constant errors, time outs, etc. is worth all this. xenforo was just the evil we knew, but it still sucked dick<br>

Can you not report posts? Do mods get alerts for flags or something?<br>Edit: nvm need to read the FAQ more<br>

<span style=“font-weight: normal;”>Are we supposed to be able to see everyone’s activity in the </span><b>Activity log</b>? I’m seeing profile image changes, name changes, people getting promoted to mod, etc all listed under there that have nothing to do with me.<br>

Yep. It’s a little busy right now, but once people get settled back in it’ll be fine. Basically, the activity log has no purpose for most users. What you guys would be interested in is Discussions, which is basically the “What’s New?” button.<br>

</blockquote>Ok, was just checking to make sure I wasn’t seeing things I wasn’t supposed to be lol.<br><br>Also, I don’t want to sound like I’m whining, just trying to point out oddities. The initial break-in for these new forums is well worth it compared to all the crazy timeouts SRK was facing prior.

So… is anyone else using the Vanilla Black skin not seeing their text while they’re typing? And is it just me or does the newly added toolbar include bold and italic, which the old one also has? That’s kind of weird.<br>

It’s not a default text bar. It’s a plugin that was installed.<br><br>And no, you’re not the only one. I let the guys who worked on the new skin know about it. It’ll have to be changed to a white text box since the editor is a live editor set to appear how it would look for the default forum theme.<br><br>I’m not sure if that last sentence made sense or not.<br>
