Official Battle Fantasia thread - OUT NOW on XB360

No news of that. You most likely will be out of luck.

Actually, GameFaqs has it listed as shipping out 9/26 in the UK. That means today, but I’m sure it will be hard to find. Also, it is being handled by 505 Games and not Aksys Games. This means that it will not be exactly the same as the version we are playing, and therefore probably not compatible online. I say this because Aksys tweaked the characters to balance the game more. If 505 decides not to tweak the game, then the consumer version will be the same as the JPN consumer version, probably. If they do tweak the game, then there will be four versions (arcade, JPN consumer, US consumer, and EU consumer).

The big difference between the JPN consumer and US consumer is the removal of a few more infinite combos (because when the JPN consumer was made, only the Ashley infinite was known). I’m sure there are some other slight differences, but that’s the only one I’ve heard.

Wow, that is a surprise.

Oh yeah, this game makes no sense. Now in the way that stupid shit happens, it’s just moves have dumb properties. To add to that, who thought of having a 4000HP advantage and having one of the highest damage output in the game was okay? I’ll probably try playing it some more, (because I’m not good at it) but it certainly doesn’t strike me as a game I’ll compete in. I played a ton against Rioting Soul and other random dudes and the game simply doesn’t feel right at times.

This has to be the first fighting game I ever got actually, you know, irritated, after the first day of heavy play.

you guys do know american copies will work on a european xbox 360 right?

GGs altergenesis. I was such a moron in those first few Death vs Marco matches. It took a while to dawn on me that I don’t have to be the one that always goes on the offensive. Are you still in the process of finding a main?

Are you talking about the super armor in particular?

I can’t do qcfx2’s for the life of me on this stick.

Well, yeah. I pretty much picked up the game yesterday. So, I was trying out everyone. To be frank, there was just a lot of stuff happening that I couldn’t explain. When I play any fighting game (and I’ve gone through a lot) I can generally be like “maybe this happened” and I can try this. But, no, shit just didn’t make sense. I was sitting there watching my ass get raped going “What the fuck am I supposed to do? I don’t get this.” (In the end, I resorted to Marco and Urs, since they’re like shotos and could play the ST spam fireball game)

Then when shit started to work, I realized Donvavle has like a billion HP. Or, that’s how it feels like. It also feels like their (Deathbringer included) normals hit for a billion damage in turn. Like I mean, how do you even have something like Watson and Donvalve in the same game? Did the creators have ANY sense of balance? 2 normals would do just as much as a whole set of combos from Odile. It makes no sense to me.

Watson takes more damage in regards to his lifebar but Donvalve and Deathbringer take more (HP) damage

it isn’t LITERALLY 4000 vs. 1800

which stick is it? if its the ex2, swapping the square gate with octagonal works pretty well

I’m aware of that. The game is still messed.

Yeah, it’s an EX2. Damn, I don’t know anything about modding/fixing sticks. Don’t even know what a gate is.

uh no

basically what you do is buy a sanwa GT-Y restrictor plate from somewhere (tech talk has places), sand/file some stuff down, and drill 4 holes…i can go into more detail but theres a thread in tech talk that explains it a hell of a lot better than i can, search for “jumpsuit hori ex2 mod” or something. its pretty easy though, once you do it once youll be like “well duh”. :wgrin:

i found those posts interesting because yours is the first negative opinion in this thread, where most of the other posts are like ‘omg best game evar’. in some games you can get your ass beat and still get hype because the game is fun. im not saying give up or anything but if youre really not ‘feeling’ the game now i dont think youll like it any better later.

you know what i got that exact same feeling with VF5. i didnt really have fun with it when i first got it, but since everyone seems to think its the best thing ever, i decided just to shut up and train. well long story short i gave it a few months before i decided i didnt really feel like figuring why i kept getting hit. i just didnt care; aside from certain rpgs, VF5 is the first game where i actually stopped playing because it felt like work. as in job/school work, the not fun kind. today i tried playing against a guy who was a whole lot better than be to try to get hype. after… ~3 hours, its still not fun and i can safely conclude there is no reason for me to touch the game ever again. i tried to like it but i guess its like one of those rides with a “you must be this tall” signs…and im not tall enough.

bottom line if youre not having fun dont force yourself. just put it in the “mash for fun” category and be happy with that.

For one, the first time I play a fighting game I don’t jump online first thing, or go into story mode. I hit practice for like the first 2 days of playing the game, so I can get a feel for it.

Next year lmao

e: I’m actually serious here.

Watson is an insane character with insane combos and resets and mixups. This isn’t much different from something like Potemkin VS Millia where Potemkin wins in 2 hits and Millia needs to keep getting knockdowns into more pressure. Odile is also retardedly good likewise although I don’t really know what her strategy would be VS Don. The problem is just that Donvalve is just flat out really good and also pretty easy to play, so you have to play exceptionally smart and solid against him, which is not easy if you just picked the game up.

And this is one of the better balanced ArcSys games there is and one of the better balanced fighting games in general. I agree with Domino though, if you aren’t having fun with it then just don’t play it. Or at least, as Li said, mess around with the game for yourself first before you start playing other people.

Well, I’m used to having low defense and working for my hits (Dizzy, Yang, VAkiha. etc) but those never felt unfair to me. At times at got frustrated, but I was always like: “I just need to get better.” I didn’t get that feeling this time. I felt I was getting straight up dominated and any amount of training wasn’t going to fix it. It’s almost like I would get owned by the same high priority normals (that are easy to do; at least Pot actually HAS to COMBO not Donvavle) and even if like I got some corner rape with Odile, oops, a mistake? Grab+normal. There it goes.

Like when I was using Coyori, I kept thinking, how can I improve this situation? Is there any amount of training that could help me? No, because I was damn scared of Don/Deathbringer up close it was retarded. Coyori has to be in rush down position and if I made high jump-in or something small like that I would be SPD. Even with Odile, she doesnt’t have a deep game. I just can’t find answers to these things.

Let’s put it this way, I’ve NEVER ever said a game didn’t suit me. I play everything for a while with an open mind. Battle Fantasia did kind of get to me yesterday.

Honestly whenever I’ve played my friend’s Donvalve (which is pretty good) with my Watson (which is not good) I’ve not even had much problems. Likewise my friend has told me that the only times he has lost online with his Don has been VS Buktooth’s Watson. I mainly just zone and poke safely with bear traps, bubbles, and C normals, and Don can’t even get in for the most part. Lv2 Bubbles and Bear Traps give Donvalve fits as he has trouble getting around things due to his size/speed. I wouldn’t even try to rush him down, just wait until something connects then do a combo and move away again.

Coyori VS Don is hard because Coyori needs to be solid and it’s probably her hardest match. You just have to play the match differently and be really careful not to do something dumb (like j.D or 6B him as oki when he has super bar). It’s hard to Oki him in general, especially if he has meter, so I often tend to avoid it.

As far as Coyori V Deathbringer goes, If you are afraid of him up close you are doing something wrong. DB’s anti-rush tools are crap, and Coyori’s rushdown is really good. DB’s main goal in that matchup is to either keep her at a distance or keep her knocked down, while Coyori’s is basically to get close to him and push him to the corner. Honestly my experience has been that this is in Coyori’s favor but it seems like it can go either way pretty easily.

So learning her solid Heatup mixups and combos wouldn’t help the situation? Coyori is a character who NEEDS these things because she is a combo and rushdown heavy character. Donvalve is a very basic, very simple, very effective character and thus he doesn’t need to worry about stuff like that.

Basic point overall is that DB and Don are the easiest characters to pick up, if you learn the game some more you will see that they are not as good as you might think.

coyori is a heavy momentum character, and when in heat up mode she does a lot of damage and becomes even harder to stop. once she knocks down donvalve she can get all over him (donvalves AA super isn’t instant btw, a meaty jump in will trade with it at worst, and you end up taking no damage)

this forces donvalve to either block or parry on wakeup, both of which are heavily in coyoris favor

odile doesn’t start doing good damage until you get the other guy into the corner, because then you get juggles off of 214C. fortunately, all it takes is one 214C midscreen and they’re pretty much in the corner already

cedric and freed are so beast, i thought watson was a run away type character but it seems he’s rush downish.

Yeah, I’ve joined the “fuck Freed” bandwagon. Reacting to his rushes is a bitch.
