hmmm… you seem to be the go to guy for this. i’m having trouble finding a third for my team.
chun (legs) sent (drones) (?)
finding an anchor is harder for me than i thought. my current picks for anchor are: felicia, arthur, hawkeye, ironman, maaaaybe task or chris. basically i want a beam assist in the 3rd slot… hawkeye would be perfect but his assist is duckable on some of the cast which really kills some of my game with how i want to use him (watch flashmetroid versus ryan hunter and see how storm ducking under hawkeyes assist when strange crossup teleported gave ryan some frustrations)
any thoughts from you or anybody else would be appreciated.
I would pick Akuma over Ryu for assist spot. Akuma’s tatsu goes through projectiles (and damn near everything else lol), and he’s a much better anchor than Ryu is. I’m not too sure about the synergy between Spidey and Dorm. You can do cool stuff like Maximum Spider, DHC to Stalking Flare, tag Spiderman back in, do another Maximum Spider if you want to burn all your meter, but I don’t think their assists really help each other out. For Spiderman I’d rather have a more traditional projectile assist (I assume you’re using Dark Hole) like Doom’s beam, but then obviously you don’t have Dorm. If you’re looking for a good battery to build meter for him, you can’t go wrong with Wesker. Dark Hole can be used for Wesker relaunches, or hold a character in place for a mixup. You could also kind of use Tatsu for the same purpose (especially in the corner). And if you’ve got Dorm on point, Wesker’s gunshot assist can be used for easymode relaunches, or easy unblockables especially in conjunction with teleport.

I don’t know much about Strange, but I can help a little with Jill. Examples of assists that help Jill out would be (in no particular order):
-Something to help get in (A projectile like beams or drones or something like Tatsu)
-Lockdown for mixups and such (Cold Star, Jam Session, to a lesser extent Shopping Cart and
Akuma Tatsu, drones once again)
-Something to cover the skies (Vajra, Hidden Missiles, Jam Session)
-OTG (not really as important as the other ones, but can give Jill a lot more options)
-There are several assists that can fill more than one role
Easiest ways of getting in with Jill would be call assist, feral dash or arrow kick>feral cancel. I used Plasma Beam but I’ve switched to Taskmaster arrows (duh that’s his only assist) as I’ve recently picked up the character, and his new colors are pretty sick lol. There really isn’t much Jill can do about characters who like to stay up high other than random machineguns, so in some matchups an assist to deal with this stuff will be crucial. Hidden Missiles is pretty good, but then you’d be missing out on Plasma Beam, which is Doom’s best assist for her IMO. Vajra is good, but I have no idea how to use Strider effectively, and all you can get off of it is 263A anyway, so I prefer Jam Session. Jam Session also lets you set up mixups, and Jill has some retarded-ass mixups. As for OTG, like I said before it isn’t really necesarry, because you can do MGS>DHC or a THC, whichever is better for your team setup. A little meter expensive but it works. With an OTG assist you can get much better damage at the end of combos, and combo off of Jill’s airthrows. Wesker’s gunshot is the best OTG assist for Jill; it comes out quickly, hits low for unblockables, doesn’t use your ground bounce or anything, and you get to use dumbfuck Albert himself as anchor.
My Jill team in Vanilla was Jill(Arrow Kick)/Ammy(Cold Star)/Doom(Plasma Beam), and right now it’s Jill(Flip Kick or Cartwheel Kick or whatever it’s called now), Taskmaster(Horizontal Arrows) and Wesker (gunshot). Jill’s best assist by far is the flash kick, fully invincible as a crossover counter, but using the ground bounce flip lets me get better combos with Tasky and Alby.
Wrote a lot more than I intended lol, hope some of it helps.
Currently, I’ve been messing around with Wesker(lower shot), Vergil(judgement cut), and Strider (Vajra)
Although Vajra gives be quite a bit of vertical breathing room for vergil and uncle wesky, I still feel the team is rather lacking. I took the trio online (with a respectable 10-3 W/L) to find that I’m severely lacking in the combo extension department. Vergil can function fine on his lonesome, but wesker doesn’t have as many solo combo options (at least none that a mid-level execution player like myself is aware of).
Do you guys have any suggestions that would benefit my wesker on point? Thoughts about Strider as an anchor? Team swaps?
Here are some characters that I’ve been in the lab with, all of which I’m proficient enough with to switch in if need be:
I’m trying to put together a team that excels at zoning the other player out. After much testing I have found that most of the time I do a pretty good job of keeping the enemy out but not so much at rushing in (I mean I do the Vergil teleport + Drones, but that is pretty basic). I would like to know which characters have a strong zoning potential and assists that would help them.
Arthur, Chris, Doom, Hawkeye, Rocket, Strange, Taskmaster, Trish imo have the most effective zoning tools. The key is figuring out what angles your character covers well, then choose an assist that fills in the blanks. In general Doom Missiles are a great assist since they automatically cover whatever angle your opponent is approaching from and have the added benefit of a Doom in the backseat since he’s a strong candidate for XF3.
Outside of that I’d say that Hawkeye would be the best option on-point since he has the most practical options and is capable of covering multiple angles on his own. For second I’d recommend Taskmaster. His horizontal arrows are fast, strong, and give Hawkeye the freedom to shoot his arrows everywhere else.
I really need some help and ANY advice would be greatly appreciated. I play a Wolvie/?/Wesker team (in that order) my pressure with Wolvie is pretty solid. Wesker is a great OTG assist char and a great anchor. But I have absolutely no idea who to use in my second slot, i would really like a mediocre character that helps me get in with Wolvie, or mix up my opponent. I gave Frank West a shot, shopping cart was good but i didnt like having to work for his levels and all that. Any suggestions guys?
Hey what do you guys think about Super Skrull/Sentinel/Storm? I likethe synergy but I’m not sure if they can back eachother up enough to be a good team.
I’m currently running Cap/PW/Dorm. It’s a PW team (as is EVERY team w/PW), but I like the synergy between Cap/Dorm so much that I want to replace PW. Any thoughts on who it should be?
hi all, i’m somewhat new to the fighting game scene (i only started when Vanilla mvc3 came out) and i was hoping for some feedback:
my team right now is Nova (barrier assist)/Doom (plasma beam)/Wesker (gun shot).
and before you all start hating on me because i use wesker, i wanna just say that i chose him day 1 in Vanilla, before i knew he was any good or anything. he was actually why i bought the game (saw him on trailers on youtube) anyway, your thoughts on my team?
Argh, I’ve tried so many characters in the 2nd slot for my team Wesker/X/Taskmaster, but I haven’t found the best fit yet. I’ve tried: Doom, Hawkeye, Spencer, Dormammu, Vergil, Firebrand, and more. I really want to make Spencer work as he works really well with the others on the team, but I have trouble with the timing on his grapples and air to ground moves, especially online.
I currently have Wesker on point and Task as anchor as I use Taks’s horizontal assist + Wesker’s teleports for mixups, and Task makes for a good anchor on his own plus if he gets hit he can get some red health back. I typically want a 2nd slot to have a strong mixup/teleport that can take advantage of Task’s assist, do a lot of damage, and can DHC into Task too. I’m open to switching up my team order, as Task on point and Wesker anchor is awesome too. All of the characters I use seem like they make perfect points, seconds, or anchors, so it makes it tough.
At the moment, I’m probably best with Wesker/Doom/Taskmaster or Wesker/Hawkeye/Taskmaster. Doom’s plasma beam is good with Wesker but it scales the damage a ton, and I use Hawkeye’s poison arrow to extend Wesker’s combos and do good damage. However, I’m still not very good when Hawkeye and Doom come out as I think their movement is a little awkward… feels clunky and floaty to me still.
So what do you guys think the strongest team and team order that involves Wesker and Taskmaster with someone else? Not that I’m not good at the game, but characters with simpler timing would be nice. I’m considering trying Zero/Wesker/Taskmaster, but again, for some reason the whole concept of charging his buster the whole time is counter-intuitive to how I’ve ever played fighting games (never played a character where I had to hold down buttons and do other stuff). Ghost Rider seems to fit good with Task assist, but Wesker’s assist doesn’t really seem to do much for him. Sentinel drones are always good, but they don’t seem to do much for Wesker when it comes to extending combos, and it’s hard to open people up with Sentinel when he comes out. I think Dormammu is great, but his assists aren’t the best… I’ve tried him on point and it’s been relatively successful. ARGH! Just rambling now. Opinions on the strongest character with relatively easy execution to pair with Wesker and Task?
Riot 55: Have ever considered trying Deadpool? My main team is Deadpool Taskmaster Doom and I think that Deadpool and Taskmaster have great synergy together with guns and arrows. Deadpool keepaway and teleport mixup game work really well with Taskmaster arrows. You could also experiment with Wesker’s assist to extend Deadpool’s combos. I think all three characters on that would be great on point and as an anchor so you could pick what order works best for you. Deadpool’s movement options are very easy to pick since his dash is very fast and he has one of the fastest teleports in the game. Deadpool is really easy to pick up and play so he would have a small learning curve outside maximizing combo damage (his 650k bnbs can be done with your eyes closed).
On a side note, I would agree with you that Doctor Doom has a high learning curve. But, he is definitely one of the best characters in ultimate. Definitely give him another shot if you don’t like Deadpool. My suggestion with leveling up your Doom would be to make a Doom point team (Doom x Sentinel) and practice his mixup game. Drones make any point character better, Doom included. When far away, use plasma beam photon shot, and hidden missiles. Use footdives, air h, and air m to get in. Practice hit confirming his forward foot dive (not the dive kick) into a full combo and you should be fine with Doom. Just make sure you tri jump a lot with him to maximize his speed!
I am still working on other characters and going to see what I can figure out but so far this is what I have… I really like a few other characters as well but am still getting better with my mains before I venture to far off.
Ryu. His Tatsu assist will help you combo off of cross-up Berserker Slash without causing a ridiculous amount of hit-stun decay/damage scaling. Also Shinku Hadoken will let you DHC even if you end your combo with an aerial Fatal Claw. Once Ryu is on point you can set up unblockables with Wesker using Collarbone Breaker and Samurai Edge assist.
Iron Man? Unibeam assist will help you set up Cartwheel mix-ups and Proton Cannon is great DHC fodder. The only down-side is you have to learn how to use Iron Man. I rocked a Cap/IM/Hulk team in vanilla to moderate success.
Possibly Ryu? He’s generally a low-execution character that DHCs well with everyone. Tatsu assist could help you successfully teleport mix-up without incurring a ton of scaling and Ryu has a standing overhead making it easy to set up unblockables with Samurai Edge assist. As an added bonus you could do some zoning with Ryu filling the air with Hadokens while calling Taskmaster.
I’m currently thinking of trying out two teams – any advice anyone feels like giving is welcome. My opinions on them are below, to help flesh things out.
Trish (Low Voltage) / Haggar (Lariat) / Frank West (Shopping Cart)
Pros:
Two chars with reliable ways to level Frank
High damage output on Haggar and (levelled) Frank
Cons:
Few projectiles
Difficult for Frank to get inside hard zoning, even at high levels
Gameplan:
Trish starts on point, hoping to combo into Round Harvest early and get Frank’s level up by tagging afterwards. If she builds two meters, DHC into Haggar to max Frank instantly. Assuming Frank gets in and Trish has a fair amount of health, Frank becomes the point char and Trish eventually anchors. Haggar + Trish assist is slightly better imo than Haggar + Frank assist, and Frank at levels 3-5 becomes very difficult to deal with alongside Trish assist to get in, and Haggar to stay there.
Pros:
Great zoning
Wall bounce, ground bounce, and OTG allows for very long Firebrand combos
Cons:
Two chars with useful “powerup” supers eats a lot of meter
Low damage on two chars, especially w/o meter
Gameplan:
Use daggers to control ground space while Firebrand assaults from the air. TAC into Nemesis results in big damage, as does DHC (though this team is meter-hungry). Any of the three as anchor is possible so long as I save X-Factor.
Alright so I run a Deadpool(Quick Work)/Firebrand(swoop)/Wesker(Ghost Butterfly) and I was wondering should I changed any of the characters or is this team even decent? I just started playing UMVC3 yesterday (never played vanilla) and still figuring out what team/characters I should use. But I really been enjoying playing all three of them I will admit I picked Wesker because of how good he is.
