Official AE Juri Changes Thread

Aye, thats what they say pretty much all the time. Juri still isnt that great, i mean, not yet at least. Even then Against Fei…hes the only problem to be fair, like id consider alting a better matchup like Yun to take him down. Fei is honesst to God to good against Juri as is, and in AE hes better, like what chance does she have really.

The main problems in the matchup id say are:

-CW mixups been vastly in Fei’s favour (wont go into the specifics but this is defo the main reason).
-Fei’s high dmg output against Juri’s low stamina.
-Fei’s cr.lp…its range is insane and its 3 frames…if they block lk pinwheel crouching, even spaced as far as possible, this will still hit you. It will seemingly punish divekicks you thought were spaced well and overall destroy your counterhit setup game.

Their thoughts are pretty fair, actually. But it’s interesting that they don’t say anything definite unlike in other interviews.

What has changed about Fei in AE?

Juri will never be looked at as top tier. Nothing about her is unfair. Nothing is cheap. Nothing is spammable. Nothing about her is too ambiguous or confusing except fuzzy guard or fse. Nothing a dp won’t fix.

Her best traits are her keep away and corner pressure. Her keep away doesn’t really do much damage but her corner is sick.

Most of us have ass defense. If our defense was standard and decent maybe our offense would show through. But 1 kd that’s it.

this pretty much nailed it on the head. with that said, she is still viable. i just think she a solid mid tier character.

Look. I think all of the cast is viable with pro defense. If I had Justin Wong or daigos understanding of how to guard I might be playing makoto right now, and my juri would increase it’s rank drastically. Same for all of us really.

Almost all juris that I’ve played has mediocre defense when basic traps work so well. Aside from counter and pinwheel most juris that I’ve played get ko on a knockdown.

No offense to anyone… Myself included.

So if we could improve this… People would rethink juri being free because we don’t get a chance to get off the ground if were stuck in block stun all day.

Her offensive skills… Not so bad. But it’s too straight forward.

Has the speed of her overhead changed in AE?

not a whole lot really, same stuff as what everyone has already mentioned. I can confirm that cl.st.lk > cr.hp doesnt work, and cr.lp still whiffs on crouchers (most of the time at least). i wanted to try st.lp > cr.hp, but everytime i tried, the opponent was just crouch teching so it would make my st.lp either whiff, or he would hit me with his crouching short. it might just be me, but it felt like her 1fr link from cl.st.lk > cr.mp was slightly easier. maybe im just imagining it. the timing for firebal store > lk/ex pinwheel is kinda tight…you need to do it relatively quickly. the link from fireball store to ultra 2 is also quite fast…it takes a little getting used to the finger movements etc with your right hand.

sekku feels exactly the same.

I still feel like the match vs Yun isnt too bad at all. His DP is ass and hes completely free on wakeup when he doesnt have meter. he he DOES have meter, all he can do to hit you is EX lunge punch (which is a waste of meter for sure ).

Gief feels a little bit easier because EX green hand doesnt knock down. It does however put you in a 50/50.

Rose is much easier due to orbs being so easy to stuff now. She cant do shit on wakeup if you throw a meaty fuhajin. it will catch her godlike backdash and stuff her orbs. freeeeee.

Fei is a nightmare, and Yang is kinda a difficult matchup. I would say 5.5/4.5 - 6/4 in Yangs favor. Ken is annoying because he can now combo almost anything into an untech knockdown so i feel like that match is a little bit more tedious as well.

Those are honestly the only 3 matches i feel Juri doesnt go even with / have an advantage against. Honda is as free as a costco sample now. Being fair though, I have a lot of honda experience. Chun and Bison are arguably still kinda difficult, but you just need to be patient. Rog is still free.

Rog free? I prefer Honda over rog. Rog is my worst match up

Yo. Fuhajin > low release is mad character specific. No go on Honda and guile.

Fuhajin > mid release works on and adon

Fuhajin > high release works on adon

I’m hating the non reset on jstrong > store. I can’t hit any special after the store. It’s a free kd and a breather. I don’t like.

Edit: fuck it. Depending on what normal you use it might connect. Why’s things always gotta be difficult with juri?

I finally got to play AE today. I did somewhat well with juri and she seems a little more sturdy for me to play. Her reversal seems a tiny bit faster but its still bad.

lol it seems strange i guess… and maybe its just me and how i play…but everyone thinks Rog is a pretty hard match for Guy…and apparently Juri also…but i rather LIKE the Rog match. I honestly dont mind playing vs him that much at all. I have a pretty damn good Rog player on my 5v5 team, ill run some matches with him and record them for yall.

thinking about it now i also have one of the best midwest Honda players on my 5v5 team…i guess since i play her worst matchups (not including fei) on a regular basis, they dont seem to problematic for me. If yall need any help with anything / questions / comments just get at me. Ill be more than happy to share what i know / how i approach whatever matchup.

  • Legend Of K1 (Juri / C. Viper )

  • Brunaleski (Guy / Fei Long ) (After I dropped Guy, he took my spot as one of the top 5 Guys in the US)

  • Lunatik (E. Honda / Blanka ) (One of the best Hondas in the midwest)

  • MiikeyBoi (Rose) (Best Rose in the southern states)

  • FightProvoker (Balrog / Seth) (Super solid Balrog player)

Alright heres the deal with fuahjin juggles. Get used to them, they will be a strong part of juri’s game play. The damage output of our queen has increased greatly due to this however I question when it would be used.

example. I jump in expecting the opponent to block. I HK. They block, i delay c.mk > Fuhajin store. They continue to block. Fine…I have a fireball but Im far now. Lets say they actually were hit. Theres enough block stun that I can confirm the after the c.mk into pinwheel.

I question the difference in damage. Would c.mk xx store > ex pinwheel be more damage than just c.mk xx ex pinwheel?

The next problem I have with it is the pure complexity of juri. Yes, its not that bad to think c.mk xx low store > qcb+ (mk+hk). Not too bad right? What if you’re holding a fireball already? What if im holding mk already and I’m using corner pressure and get a hit on a low store?

nevertheless…its these kinds of things that we’re gonna have to develop a rhythm for.

As for her juggle connecting, it doesn’t work on everyone universally. I had some promise with c.mk xx store > release vs the twins, hakan, cody, and ken, however like…adon it whiffed but sc.mp xx store > release worked on more of the cast. Oddly enough mk store > release worked the most on those I tried.

We would probably need to add a listing on what works on who.

I did get sc.lk, s.lp to connect on guile. Dunno if this has always been the case. Its weird…close the lp whiffed, but in a combo it connected. Interesting. That made me puddle a bit.

All in all Juri is the same but her setups have changed a bit. I think her changes are really good. I held my own really. Feng Shui was so godlike tonight. I just gotta work on my mix up. I really am starting to get my hopscotch style of FSE down.

Videos of sets against the hard matchups might be cool, just to see how you approach them. Rog and Honda are personally problems for me, but its not that I don’t know what beats what, more like I just don’t have a feeling how the matches should flow. I used to feel that way about Blanka too, but then it clicked for me, now all the average online Blankas just feel free.

I agree, I’ve thought so for a long time. I have to admit, I personally rarely use her BnB (the 1-framer), I usually just cr.MK xx store even in SSF4. Its easier to do, and gives you a fireball to work with for your next attack.

It does more damage (1 point hah). j.HK, cr.MK xx store, EX Pin is 305, while j.HK, cr.MK xx EX Pin is 304 dmg.

I think usually doing xx store, EX Pin is about same damage as just doing xx EX Pin. Only really short combos (like raw cr.MK xx EX Pin) do more damage the old way, cr.MK xx EX Pin is 240 dmg, cr.MK xx store, EX Pin is 230 damage. But you could chalk the 10 damage as payment for the fireball stock.

If the store works as a reliable hit confirm into EX Pinwheel, I truly think it will be viable to basically only use stores. Only situation you would want to use the old BnB’s is crouch tech hit confirm and meterless damage, because both store xx LK Pin and store xx release do ass damage compared to confirming into MK/HK Pinwheel.

As an example, cr.LK, cr.LK xx EX Pin is 184 damage. cr.LK xx store, EX Pin is 190 damage, and nets you a fireball. That’s the real benefit of the store, EX Pin, you can use it instead of a hit confirm move to net more damaging combos AND a fireball stock.

I calculated many possible new store combo damages earlier in the thread, can’t remember where the post is though. Note that these theory damage calculations might be a few dmg points off, but they should be pretty close if I got the move damages right.

Negative edge should work. You could probably even let go of your buttons, if you hit the QCB+2K timing perfectly (1 frame late and I guess it would kara-EX Pin?).

As for the store xx release combo being character specific, I don’t think it as a big deal, since I find it hard to see why you would release the fireball. If you aren’t comboing to EX Pin, you wanted to have the fireball. Otherwise you would’ve done a different combo for meterless hit confirm.

tl;dr; I like the Fuhajin changes.

I release when I think the opponent will block. I try and get a counter hit on the release. I don’t know if it was always this way but I got stuffed all day. I must have been getting away with murder in super.

Personally I think the beauty of the move is the fact that I can keep the fireball and tack on damage. It’s not great damage but there are times when you could end the match. You store in super you have one more turn to end the match. Now I can end it this turn. That’s cool.

I’m more concerned with the ability to set things up with it that might be easier. Off a cross up I had to do j mk, c mk xx low release xx super instead of like j mk, c mk xx low > c mk xx lk pinwheel xx super.

Now I can probably do it without a stored fireball.

J mk s mp xx store > release xx super.

Again. I just don’t like the breather the opponent gets off of the store. I always liked the hurricane made from quick rising and the fuhajin store quick kd speed.

Balrog is one of Juri’s easiest matches in my opinion. It might even be easier than Viper.
