Um, are you guys actually reading the article? The ONLY thing it says is that Freddie Prinze Jr. is joining the show as a Chase wanna-be, and the silly author of the article speculates that it could be FOX angling for a spin-off.

It doesn’t confirm any shooting for Jack Bauer. Why would this article even be interesting if it did? I don’t give a “hoot” who’s joining really, but they don’t mention Jack as part of the cast. If it said “Joining Jack bauer in season 8 is…” I’d be good, but it doesn’t. This, I assume, is what everyone but you is concerned about.
So, I think we’re fine.
I wasn’t worried about them replacing Jack since he signed a new contract through season 8 back when season 5 was still on. At the time of the signing Kiefer Sutherland was made the highest paid actor on television, meaning Fox isn’t going to replace someone of that calibre.
Wiki also linked to another article where Kiefer said something along the lines of Jack Bauer dies when he (the actor) says he will die. I suppose we can grant him that much power, they do credit him as an executive producer. He also said 24 continuing on as a show also depends on the writers and their ability to craft interesting storylines.
If they do replace Jack, I’m almost certain it won’t be Freddie Prinze Jr. Not saying he’s a bad actor or anything (haven’t really seen any of his movies) but replacing Jack with someone introduced in season 8? Tony would be the better choice. Tony’s been there since S1, we already know his character and I think following a day in the life of Tony Almeida can be interesting. Naturally a minimum of two hours will be spent watching him drink Cuervo Gold.
I know he’s gonna be in season 8 (thought his contract expired this season, but I guess I’m wrong). This is good, but have you thought about season 9 or 10?
Earlier, I was expressing my concern with a Jackless 24. Can you imagine what if that article was right about the not-so-distant future? Can you imagine how stupid it’d be to try to salvage the show without Jack like E.R. without Goose? (Oh, and I didn’t watch E.R., I just needed an example). Hell, I cringed when people started talking about Renee taking his place.

Arrested Development is awesome and it sucks that it is gone, but they let it run for 3 season with nobody watching solely due to how critically acclaimed it was. It was basically a money sink without a wide enough appeal.
