OBJECTION! - The Phoenix Wright Thread

Most people who don’t have a lot of match up exp against Wright will either go full rushdown of fullscreen lame (fight or flight). Personally as someone who doesn’t have strong neutral assists I heavily prefer fighting lame players over rushdown oriented players because there is much more room for error and their game plan is more transparent. If they start to back off after I grab 3 evidence then all the better; now I know they are scared.

Most zoning oriented teams use missiles, drones, or bolts because they stay on screen forever, but I think of these assists as prime objection bait. Watch their health bar, their assists will grey out and tell u when they call the assist before it even appears. If u are going to do a full screen super jump make sure u don’t object until ur sure they wont punish u for it. The mere act of super jumping the moment they call the assist should scare them, and its likely they will burn meter to keep u away.

If they won’t call their assist then u just need to annoy them to come to u. In a 1v1 scenario Wright can outzone the likes of mags, doom, and even morrigan with the right evidence (Teleporters, hawkeye, and chris is risky bsns). The problem is if they are still running u can’t catch them with an objection unless they mess up. It gets very situational based on ur opponent, I recommend sitting on ur lead if u have one, but decide quickly if u are going to have to tag out or risk losing ur evidence.

Ahem Hey guys. Im new around here, But i’ve been playing a Phoenix Wright/Nemesis/Zero team since last December, and grinding my way towards 3rd -Insert Name- on ranked. Anyways, I havent read all of the thread. But there is some tactics i use that some may or may not consider. When you do Maya’s Sheild, You can grab a piece of evidence (Or two, if you use planking. i havent tried yet) You can then use “The Maya Roll” (The Hyper) to throw off any victims thinking they can break past the shield. Think of it as a form of…a reset except with Maya psychics? As the Roll happens, You can keep that last piece and switch modes and be set, or throw evidence out as you please. Another thing that should be noted, is that for all of those teams that have Wright/Nemi or Wright/Zero, if you do a cross-hyper consisting of one of the two teams, you can land Turnabout Mode by Super Jumping into Zero’s Rainbow Beam or Also super jump after the ground bounce in Nemi’s Rocket hyper. Also looking back from one of Lythero’s videos, You can use Order In The Court once and then X-factor and do the hyper again or do your own awesome combo! In some cases, i hear you can even hit a objection if your quick enough. Also, Good job to Uglywhen on the EVO placings, Glad to know the “Ace” threw the book at the world. Let me know what you guys think of these few tactics

So the guy who did that Phoenix Wright lobby recorded another session on his twitch channel. The guy who made the Hulk/PW/Doom combo video is there too.

I found Profecery on NicoDouga the other day. He’s got some cool tech and nice stuff that everyone probably already knows. But all in all, he’s a pretty solid player with this team, and it’s really enjoyable to watch

EDIT

Also, 864, Do you have a link to the Argentina guy with Joe / Wright / Task? I’m interested because one of my old PW teams was Joe / PW / RR and is more zoning focused.

  1. Profecery is pretty good, but I wish he didn’t play that team. I don’t like to be that guy that says “pick a top tier” but it seems pointless to pick a character with a design of “Get me from being really bad to pretty good” and then pick characters like Ryu and Wesker who:

a. Aren’t relatively strong characters themselves

AND/OR

b. Don’t complement PW as well as some other characters (Spencer, Dante, Doom, Ammy, Akuma, I think almost any well rounded point character that works with Doom and Dante aside from Spencer (e.g. Zero, Magneto, Vergil even though he’s commonly played on anchor, Morrigan (?), Dormammu, MODOK, Trish has nice raw tag setups and potential unblockables, Taskmaster has some synergy), Maybe Strange if you can get your plinks and your Flames of the Faltine loops down, Joe sort of works, Raccoon has some cool THC and DHCs with Wright, Hulk and Haggar (though they get countered by zoning)

Point is that the stronger characters have enough tools to work well with most, if not all, of the cast and should be considered no matter how cheap said character(s) is. Then it becomes a matter of picking the right kind of cheapness. For example, I wouldn’t play Wolverine with Wright because I see little synergy with them (other than DHC to Berserker Charge after Maya and unblockable setup with low + retarded instant overhead). You can opt to pick non-top tier characters ofc, but top tiers make life easier.

  1. Here is his channel. He was the one that showed that PW can combo off of his throw in Trial Mode midscreen and confirm into Objection (combo does something like 900k with evidence  ).

I will post what I think are some of the better matches later on. But this set is pretty good.

One more thing: Post UFGT, I said that it might be possible to get more than 5 pieces of evidence if you keep calling the Maya hyper via THCing. For every Maya that comes out, you get 5 chances to get evidence. I didn’t verify this, but it works. I actually saw ChrisG playing casuals with his PW team and he found out that this works. Unf he doesn’t archive any of his videos :frowning:

If you want to know what I am referring to, check this guy.

Hi,Nice to meet you.
This is my Twitch channel.

Please follow me.

Oh wow, another PW champ about! Hello profecery sir!

Anyways, hello forum! I currently play a PW-B, Hulk-B, Wesker-B team, and it’s not doing so badly. That said, while I have a decent grasp on my team synergy, I still need to work on the individuals themselves, and then try some ideas for teamwork.

I like the protection Hulk gives PW though some have suggested trying Haggar’s Lariat instead. I’m not as well versed with Haggar yet to try that, and Hulk does give some nice security regarding a lot of things, like armor, invincible supers, high HP for raw tags, etc.

Wesker’s there mainly because he’s the second best (if not best, compared to PW) individual character I can play. OTGs are nice too, especially useful after grabs among other things.

But most of all, I’m sure there’s a lot I can learn from fellow PW characters. He is, after all, the main reason I bought this game (well, it was the final push if nothing else), so I aim to do very well with him. Most people usually can’t learn how to approach him at first glance, which makes for great surprising wins… until of course they get wiser, but even then, PW gives me enough confidence to try him out against almost any team just because of his quirkiness compared to the rest of the cast.

@lamuness

There’s some cool things that you can do with Wright that are demonstrated in this vid. Stance cancel reset and use of Maya M/H to stop pressure. There’s also the use of Joe’s slowdown hyper to help Wright gather evidence.

To be honest, you should change Wright’s assist to the dog and drop Wesker for Doom. You get some nice conversions with the dog off of Gamma throw and… missiles is good for both characters. And Doom is cool

The Hulk assist is definitely useful for PW for the reasons you’ve mentioned. Just as obnoxious as Lariat.

Woops, I meant to have said I use PW-C already, dunno why I still wrote B (it was like that for a long time, but I’ve converted to the dog assist in the fall and it’s been quite useful as a mixup tool).

I may try Doom at some point, but I want to avoid him at the moment solely because everyone else around here plays him. You know how it is, Doom mirrors consist of only foot dives and some occasional finger lasers.

Hey all, i’m a Marvel scrub but after playing the Phoenix Wright games, I really want to get into Marvel.

All that aside, I heard there was a really good PW player at EVO this year (he beat someone really good and got into top 32 or something like that) and I had a few questions about him.

Do you know when he lost, who he lost to?

What were his setups that allowed his PW to shine?

Was it only his PW doing all the work or did his other characters also shine?

You’re looking for UglyWhen (Uglywun is his YouTube account).

I don’t remember much about his Evo run, and a bit busy to check, but you can find some of his matches on YouTube if you search his name (UglyWhen). If you check his channel, he has some combos, and the best Maya Plinking tutorial I’ve found. Haven’t seen him much 'round the forums, though, recently.

His YouTube account.

Its been a long crazy few months for me moving to the states, but it looks like I finally have some time to play marvel again. I’m pretty much by myself now in the middle of nowhere in eastern Washington, its about a 4 hour drive to any kinds of marvel events so I’m focusing mostly online now. With all that’s happened to me though I’m mostly playing this game to take my mind off things and try to relax again; so to hell with winning and losing I’m just playing for fun atm. If anyone still wants to play sets with me (on my new fiber optic internet :D) hit me up anytime on xbox and maybe ps3 GT: Uglywhen
And yes I’m going to evo and I will play that set with Lythero soon.

Nice setup off a throw for anyone that plays Wright with Spencer (bffs)

Speaking of which, is there any good set of synergy combos with Wright and Spencer? VoDs are nice, but just listing the combos is fine.

So, I guess the kicker is… does anyone still play Phoenix Wright?

Wolfstreet still plays PW, his latest matches were for the N.cal vs S.cal qualifiers (I don’t remember the times).

I’m sure uglywhen, lythero and I heart justice still plays him, though TBH it has been more frustrating playing him than rewarding. (For me)

I stopped playing this game. But I might come back from time to time to help with team suggestions.

In the event any of you missed it, go look up Ackbar vs Aiden Nyte. Hype Evo match.
