I can’t say I totally agree with you there…I mean if someone wants to use their talent to glorify God rather than the world then who is anyone else to tell them that they don’t have the right to make a living off of it. Don’t get me wrong, I love the older church hymns and everything, but music encompasses so much more than that, and there’s no reason to limit Christian music to being any particular genre. The fact that a Christian artist makes a living off telling the good news is a blessing to them. They could go out and make beaucoup money appealing to the masses, but instead they choose to glorify God instead of talking about stuff that doesn’t amount to anything worthwhile. Saying it’s bottom tier for someone to make a living off using their talent to glorify God is like saying its bottom tier for a Pastor to preach the gospel instead coming up with their own theology. That’s the way it goes ya know…if an artist believes in God then they more often than not believe that they were blessed to recieve their talent. Obviously it’s their choice how to use their blessing, a Christian just realizes that they should show gratitude by devoting their music to God while people that don’t fully understand what life’s about only talk about terrestrial issues, things that will all pass. Still, God blesses both those who choose to praise Him and those who don’t with success, the difference is that if one actually knows what is right and chooses not to do it then they may not be found blameless in the end. Woe to those who recieve their reward in this life; it’s only temporary…
Anyway, I just don’t feel it’s cool to say it’s bottom-tier for someone to glorify God in their music and be successful. More often than not they could probably be far more “successful” if they didn’t, but the Bible says praise Him in all that you do, so why not? If they were really so concerned with chasin’ paper then they’d just go out and talk about whatever like most choose to do. People work and people get payed regardless of their occupation, so if someone is willing to have their hard-work shunned just because they choose stand up for what they believe in I would say that type of devotion transcends any tier.

With that in mind, of course you can’t be saved through works…when all your good deeds are like “filthy rags” then yeah, I’d imagine that it’d be kinda hard to be saved by offering used meunstral pads.
Anyway, I did not say, or even really imply that acts can save you. All the line speaks of is striving to be Christ-like; not being a good person so you can go to heaven. Is not that the difference between the saved and unsaved? One acknowledges their sin, repents, and tries to be free from it while the other indulges in it and acts obliviously?
