If America did not intervene in the middle east, would the Taliban and Al Qaeda be still around? Would the middle east really over throw both regimes? Especially seeing how they haven’t over thrown Isis. And seeing how we could’ve caught Osama Bin Laden in 2001 and end this war in its infancy. Unfortunately at Tora Bora Al Qaeda sympathizers literally smuggled Osama Bin Laden across the Afgan border in the middle of the night with our military presence right there. The middle east literally screwed themselves on that which prolonged the war.
Actually we did find weapons of mass destruction. Check the Duelfer Report. Mostly chemical weapons, but they existed.
Why would we need to rob them of their oil though? America has more than enough oil and natural gas under our own soil. Remember the Key Stone pipeline that never took off? The USA has enough of our own oil and natural gas that we’ll never need to import oil. Sadly whether it is due to the EPA preventing that, wanting to engage in trades with the middle east, or we’d rather let another country fuck up their own environment.
Now should we had gone to war way back in the 1990’s? Which ultimately led to the situation that we’re at today? No, we’re getting some massive blow back for what we’ve done in the middle east. Plus seeing how Obama threw away our victory by prematurely bringing our troops home, we essentially wasted the lives of all those soldiers.
Yes, the USA has decimated countries by bombing them. We burned 80% of Japan down with bombs even before we dropped the two nukes (estimates of 241,000 to 900,000 fatalities). Sadly Japan wasn’t willing to give up even with all that destruction that we did with regular bombs. Which forced our hand with the nukes. Sadly it is a very effective strategy.
Voting third party was a good suggestion, though. I’m going to have to look into the options I have. Out of curiosity, who are you going to be voting for?
Voting Libertarian. Which in my state of Illinois is basically a throw away vote. Dems have won the general election for presidency for the last 28 years. I don’t see that changing any time soon.
I make no effort to hide that I am right leaning. And that does not mean that I’m happy with what the GOP has done. They’ve made plenty of mistakes over the years. However I only blasted the Dems because the picture was painted of them being generally speaking the “wiser” choice. Blaming republicans for things that they didn’t do. So there shouldn’t be anything wrong with painting a larger picture to show some of the things that the Dems have done which weren’t particularly smart. Especially when it was some of the dems policies that happened to blow up during a republicans term in office that allows the blame to bypass the person that passed and pushed for said bill/law and land on the person that just happened to be in office at the time.
