Not another Gay thread... version 2.0.5

Since you’re on the topic of reading, this won’t make much of an awkward segueway.

I was sort of wondering how much you guys read in general. I know that I’ve been getting steadily worse about reading anything since I got access to the Internet in high school and I’m sure it’s that way for a lot of people. That said, I’ve don’t recall there ever being much talk about reading in general in here (or in most threads), so that got me wondering.

The other thing that got me wondering that the latest readings I’ve finished that weren’t for school–though the readings have actually been interesting for once, probably because I’ve never read much sci-fi–were about a gay character from an interesting first-person point of view. They were a couple of books by Brent Hartinger called Geography Club and then Order of the Poison Oak; he has a third one which is technically two books-in-one that I’ve yet to start since I’m being lazy enough about school work as it is.

As stereotypical as it is to ask, do most of the books you read, if you read any, have a main gay character? Or do you mostly just try and reading interesting things in type of genre?

This question can include magazines as well since they have genres–no, not Genre or its ilk–as well.

Oh, speaking of which, there was this interesting article I read in Mother Jones from last month’s issue…which is still sort out.

It’s linked online, so finding it was easy.

It may offend you, but I’m just saying that as a general warning and not thinking of anyone particular in the thread.

I read a lot of non-fiction. Especially astronomy books. At the moment I’m reading Silence of the Lambs, and before that I read two different astronomy books and Bridget Jones Diary.

What the heck is a Sylar?

Anywho, I used to read avidly…then I stopped. lol my grammar and spelling declined with it also…but lately I’ve been trying to get back into it. so I usually read everyday. I read my sci-fi and horror a lot. re-read all the Harry Potters again. want to read more orson scott card…reading anne rice currently. I’ve also read other random things. I want to read more Stephen Hawking. If it looks interesting and I like it, I read it.

Sylar the villan from Heroes. Not exactly like him but there’s a resemblence.

I used to read a lot of Michael Critchton when I was a kid. His characters were a little dry but the plots and ideas were interesting as hell. Still, his characterizations are masterpieces when compared to David Brown. I don’t understand what people saw in Da Vinci Code.

i know what quiche (the food) is. i was asking the quiche (givequicheachance) about him on the scale.

Have i messed around with a guy before? Yes, but no penetration or oral involved, and it involved some drunken partying. So i don’t know if that counts. and yes, the number will change over time surely, just right now it’s at those brackets, as alot of stuff happened leading up to the current values on the scale.

@ GTC: i thought you had a joint one with you bf? i ositos<something>

speaking of that, hows my requested portrait coming along?

heh, GTC is so popular.

Beats: you remind me of a friend of mine, look-wise.

oh I see

yeah, I def. like micheal crichton. not perfect but he does something right.

but the problem, just like with my musical taste, is I have way too many hobbies and so it’s too hard to concentrate/go deeper with any of them…I actually stopped a lot of them/didn’t do some as much once the whole job/rent/college shit kicked in.

@BV: which pic? long hair? short hair? I look different in all the pics almost.

GTC don’t do it, don’t give in! It’s not worth it. Seriously. Myspace is just fucking pointless bulletin after pointless bulletin, friend requests from robots, and retards that don’t know how to take pictures of themselves. I would probably be a happier camper had I never had a myspace, but I did get in contact with some people I hadn’t heard from in years that I’d never have run into otherwise. Still not worth it though, because I don’t care that much. Myspace isn’t any fun when you don’t have a working camera anyway. http://www.myspace.com/hahahawtf

Between work, school, and fighting games, I don’t really have time for casual reading. Maybe when I get more into the groove of my schedule I can start finishing that sequel to Eragon (shut up). I’ve only read one book with a gay guy in it actually, and he wasn’t the main character, but was close. Actually his name was Wayne and that’s my bf’s name, I thought it was kinda weird when it became apparent to the reader he was gay. Sad, sad book, actually. Made me cry. Good though. It’s called The Book of Joe (lol).

everytime my musical devices stop working i turn to reading and love it (PSP’s, MP3’s.)
I jus finished reading the Alphabet of Manliness by Maddox and loved it.
That dude is hilarious.
And im now reading Battle Royale.
Too too good.

I love tearjerkers. I’ll have to see that Book of Joe.

I’ve read some “gay” books

The notebook…omg such a short book, I finished in one day but seriously…you will need tissue. I wanna see the movie now. I also wanna see Queen of The Damned now too, after reading the book. Like Harry Potter it definately won’t be as good, and will be too short for fitting the whole book in…but I wanna see the effects and how they adapt it. And also sexy ass Aliyaah as Akasha

EDIT: lol a lot of “a”'s in that last sentence.

yeah, after my Mp3 player broke, and my PSP was stolen from me on the street, I started reading much more.

No. I dont actively look for reading material with that in mind.

Bloodia - Yes it counts.

Beats - Yup I gave up games and recreational reading when I went to college. Every second of my day was devoted to music and drumline and all that crap. I had been playing fighters since I was about 12 and I didn’t really pick up another one until MVC2 came out when I was 21.

Mech - I feel you on the whole broken camera blues. Mine’s been in the shop for about two months now. I think I’m just gonna save up for a new one since they can’t seem to get it fixed.

I started to read one gay novel. It was called “Faggots” and was about a formerly fat gay guy looking for love after becoming a muscle head. Interesting idea as he clung to a lot of old insecurities, but the characterizations were uneven, the tone was silly (one character was actually named "Randy Dildough) and it was all a big mess.

And thank god my mp3 player works. I NEED to have music around me at all times, period. I have a tiny stereo in my shower so I can listen to music while I shower and get ready.

same with drawing, I stopped seriously drawing about 4yrs ago when I was in 8th/9 grade…that was one of my biggest hobbies. I worked hard at it every day for as long as I can remember. I may not have had all the skills, but I worked very hard. But thanks to my family, namely my asshole dad, I couldn’t do it anymore…I try now and again to start some drawing/painting/inking/something, but it just doesn’t come to me anymore…I might need a new setting.

Vgames is just hard for finding time. but when I do, it’s exactly anything hard, just fun.

same with music, I’ll go on for months, even a year listening to the same music in my library without getting anything new. But I like pretty much everything and it’s daunting to figure out where I wanna start with getting new music. @_@

and I’m so pissed about my mp3/psp situation, I need my music too!

your face, mainly. Except he’s thinner/leaner than you, which makes him looks like he’s dying, lol. beef up!

making out on a dare with 6 people watching?

You’re probably right about the new setting Beats. Hell I used to write music when I was in college and it was horrible, now it comes a lot more naturally.

And don’t worry about “not having the skills.” Anyone can pick up anything and art (painting, writing, music, whatever) involves a lot more than just technical skill. What made me a horrible writer back then was that I was obsessed with technique. Just let it flow and good shit should come to you.

I actually read alot of technical books lately trying to figure out SSH tunneling for this project i’m working on. Other than that I read alot of online articles. from various sources.

well no, that’s just what I mean. I think I had some natural skills, but not a lot. so I worked hard on my technical skills. worked on all the details/perspective/anatomy/how clothes work/lighting/etc.etc.

but since I’ve been gone from it, all my feeling is gone…I might just still have the technical skill (thought def. not as much) but no more creativity (there wansn’t much to begin with)

I can draw a portrait of someone really well. but don’t ask me to think of something to draw anymore. so if I still go into a field relating to art, it might just be with something that requires no originality, just skill…but we’ll see if I get that spark back anytime soon. I really hate my dad for that…

Yeah my ma was kind of an asshole when it came to me wanting to be a musician. I just said fuck it. I don’t do it for a living anymore, but I still have my shit on the side and it’s good enough for me. My friends want to form a band, so there’s always that.

I have a base sketch done i just need to add clothes an color. I had to put a few things on hold cause I was asked to do a calendar (drawings… not pics of me) And i had to finish this flyer for a bear - dracula for a flyer for some bear party at the bar.

which is something… i keep asking people why do you want my shit. My art sucks. I know it. Anyone who draws can tell you that … oh well.

Dude i’ve got so many digital cameras… if you guys want my old ones you can have them. just send me addresses.

not bragging … just have a lot (4 not used)

same… if you want my old one you just gotta buy a memory card for it.

what’s weird is I need to have music going while i read or i cant concentrate. I read better when there’s alot going on around me and i have music going.

I’d like to see your work one day. (homo… and no homo)
