\ I main Vega and I only play male characters… but it’s because when I went to play a female when I was younger my dad use to be like really you’re picking a girl? and stuff like that I think I developed a complex or something.
But honestly I don’t think that it influenced my character choices (like who I do play) just who I didn’t pick. I think I’d still main Vega no matter if I played women or not I like his style more than any of the SF cast and always have.
Many straight guys play females but it seems they find a “manly” excuse to.

I’ve always been drawn to female characters I usually like the character design. Honestly anytime I pick a character now days I see myself pick the bad guys. I.E my main in SF4 is Oni. Main in KOF is Iori. I’ve also become quite the whore and tend to pick a character based on if they’re hot or not. I play gief for fun cuz he’s pretty. When I get KOFXIII Raiden is on my team no questions asked.
Sidenote: I wish they would have used Final Fight 3 Hagger for his alt _ so pretty.
That’s just how I pick characters now days though if they look cool or they’re hot.

I’ll admit that my interest in Nova started because of dat ass.
Most of the time when I start a game I’ll go off of visual interest, then find out if I can actually play that person’s style and go from there. I’m a rusher and women in games are usually fast so I go for them first.
I love playing women. (I’m a homo to clear shit up.)
I don’t know why I pick women. I don’t wanna be a drag queen. I don’t wanna turn into a woman. Just something about playing women I love. The way they look, and their fighting styles have a stylish flair about them.
If I was born a woman, I’d prolly play women because of female empowerment or because I have some kind of weird bond with them. Like since Chun is like the first women to rep SF, it makes sense for women to pick her up because she represents strength and empowerment in women.
That’s just me though.

I don’t think I ever really had an issue with gender selections in characters. Generally I feel around (lol) a bunch of characters regardless of bits until I settle with who I enjoy and have the most comfort playing, while at the same time still being able to squeeze out some positive results with them at least every now and then. Before I had the luxury of online play, this was entirely based on frustrations with arcade modes. Hell, I even had a phase shortly after exhausting my puberty angst where I felt I nearly got converted by Guilty Gear’s I-NO. Cool as fuck character.
In terms of the present, when I was still playing SSF4, I played around with Rose every now and then, and with UMvC3 I rock Trish on a regular basis. I used to play Morrigan and dropped her for some reason (probably advanced combo dropping frustrations online), but I may play around with her soon now that Firebrand has helped me appreciate “low damage” characters again. I also quite like playing regular Jean when I feel I can get away with it (not Dark, mind - I’m terrible against anti-dark tech).
I think that if you find a character whose playstyle is something you’re interested in or comfortable with, then I guess it shouldn’t matter what gender.
Sometimes people choose chars solely on look too though. Ha.
You know this day in age it’s kind of odd to hear stories about guys getting picked on for picking chicks in games. When the original SF2 came out I was in middle school and no one really talked shit about picking Chun. Funny to see it’s been mentioned more than a few times in the gay thread over the years.
It’s because chun is always top tier lol

Yeah, people ask me why I play females a lot or like females in shows and honestly, I don’t even know. They just usually seem more interesting as characters, I don’t know why. I guess it’s just a gay thing and that’s that.
I vowed never to buy useless DLC like alternate costumes till I saw the 1990’s Jean Greay Phoenix alt. That thing is just too badass not to buy even if I never use her.
Yes that outfit is amazing. Unfortunately i can’t play Phoenix for shit in that game anymore, with all her nerfs. I just wish Dark Phoenix would go away and regular Phoenix was buffed : /
