Northwest VFers

OK, I made this for you and the two sections that Frank had requested.

Thanks Zach.

Is there going to be ZF action tomorrow or not?

? VF? Yes, somebody is bringing two extra VF players too. (Aenimus on AIM, I never recall AIM real names.) Or do you mean Zach Virtua Fighter? I don’t know, I haven’t played games since I got my stitches. Maybe. I’m leveling up a little tiny bit, but the ranking/upgrade system is just a fucking waste of time that doesn’t teach you anything, so it will probably be a month or two before I’m kind of decent at all. I like to unlock stuff first. =P Plus I’m still holding my hands awkwardly on the sticks since I don’t really understand the 3d game space very well. The “up+button” to jump is annoying.

In VF, hopping is generally a bad idea unless you are so certain your opponent is going to do a low attack (in which case, you still have so many better options). I think that’s part of the reason the hopping input was changed in VF4 (to its current form) to really discourage it.

Well, it minutely frees up a little buffer room for evades as well I guess…

For those that really have a jumping habit from 2d fighters, you could mentally substitute dashing for jumping, as far as how you might use a jump in some fighting games. Get used to using dashes the way you developed a feel for jumping.

Yeah, I understand it’s not generally useful. I just like to do it on the very very rare occasion for either surprising somebody or jumping out of the ring after knocking someone out. I guess it makes sense that they deliberately made it counter-intuitive… it’s just one of the few character movement aspects that doesn’t seem right.

Why does Sarah or Vanessa block Lion’s dragon punch jab (D/F/DF+P I think) for free? I was playing against a training dummy (2P controller doing nothing) and she would always block that. I don’t like that, but it’s good to know if certain moves your opponent simply gets free blockage on. =P (Again, I’m coming from awe-inspiring VF3-based ignorance.)

Do you mean Jacky or Vanessa… I don’t think sarah can do it. Both of those characters have a neutral reversal. If you high or mid punch, while they’re doing absolutely nothing, not even guarding, then they’ll “catch” your punch, and then a player can input a move from the catch for a bit of extra damage and a knockdown, I think. It might block elbows too… probably have to check a command list to see for sure what all it works against.

It’s a bit rare in real play, since most players almost never leave themselves in a completely neutral position. It’s worth remembering that you want to emphasize kicks against those characters though, to avoid the reversal.

Hello. long time no see guys.

I will pay you once I get there, so can you buy a amtrak ticket for me? or if someone from portland is coming to preppy’s house on January 4th, he can pick me up from preppy’s party. this is the easiest way, but I don’t know.
once I get to portland, I will buy a plane ticket for wisconsin as well.

I finally got 100% on Quest Mode, here’s the video:

Nice turn out of people this time, looks like we might have a few other people interested in VF which is always a good thing =] Finals broke down like this.

Winners final: Frank 3 Robert 1
Losers final: Mike 3 Robert 2
Grand final: Frank 4 Mike 3

Also big ups to Mike for clawing his way out of the losers bracket after losing to Ian, and to taking down Robert in some nailbiters!

The grand finals are saved as replays on Zach’s XBOX, if he feels like recording those or finding a way to upload them to his computer.

So Season 3 of the Team Seattle ranbats begins on Jan. 4th, this season VF5 will be a staple game alongside MvC2 and ST. Let’s hope that we can get a few more peeps into the game and build up our scene =].

To help you out frank it was, Lion? not Brad!

Brad is going to be some hard ass shinit!

Good job on 1st place, Frank! Did you do the Monkey Dance between rounds for me?

The other blanks you’re missing:

Jaime “JF_” - "Eileen"
David played Goh
don’t remember who Nate used.

Nate used Wolf.

Not that big of a deal, but it’s spelled ‘Jamie’.

Good games to all. The tournament was a good warm-up for getting into VF5 again. Thanks to Sorias for playing random characters against me and helping me learn defense against busted tactics. Learning the technical stuff in VF is half the battle, so having a good teacher is a lot better for someone like me (without any console that can play VF5)

ahhh i wanted to play in this but i’m down in cali for a week!

Where in Cali are you ejdge?

I was wondering where the hell you were at. So there might be a random session in the works, for later this week. I’ll keep you guys updated.

Nice. Count me out. In AZ for the week = no 360.

I got dibs on last place for the 4th.

south cali, rowland heights to be exact.

So my xbox live is up and running again from what I hear, i’m down to play some people before i work tomorrow. Drop me a line anyway you can before 8pm.
