This is a 23" 1080p monitor that averages 8ms of lag–which is less than 1 frame.
Every fighting game player should have at least 1 lag free setup. People who host (like Pablo and myself) hoard multiple. Shit, I’ll probably pick up two more tonight.

As mastermind pointed out, space and portability are the main reasons to adapt to current technology. Also, keep in mind that simply because projection displays like CRTs are inherently lag free in their technology, not all CRTs are truly lag free. Control boards that handle the logic of scaling and processing can add to the display delay. My projections TVs (of which I have 12 in my house presently–viva Marvel) range in lag from 2ms to 10ms. I also have a 23" 4:3 CRT that lags about 4ms, a 19" CRT that’s between 0 and 1ms, and another 19" CRT with a dismal 22ms.
Anything 16ms and under is good for current gen gaming, since 16.6 is 1 frame.
LCDs are also easier on the eyes than the flickers of a CRT. I once went through a 4 hour co-op marathon of Lode Runner 4 with a friend. As soon as we finished, I got up and looked away from the screen only to get dizzy and almost fall on the ground. It was because my eyes had gotten accustomed to the flickering refresh rate.

Pablo tells me that TEs have recently fallen out of favor for purists because the PCB randomly lags. Most of my current-gen sticks are custom made with Paewong or Cthulu boards. So no sweat off of my balls. Still, this is a good deal.
edit: The cynical part of me (which is a dominating majority of my being) now thinks that this price drop might be Madcatz conceding their product’s inferiority and looking to unload their stock while possibly upping market share.
