I chose to elaborate on MvC2 in my post due to the fact that this is marvel country and not having marvel at a few more majors up here would be hazardous to our health. At least for this forthcoming major (who knows about any after that, but if brent wants to try to make this bigger and bigger well I think that will help at least get complete beginners a chance to see what it’s about as well as learning some stuff along the way. Discouragement is a big reason why people don’t bother to try and improve on things wether it’s video games or life etc. etc. and it wouldn’t be helping much if there are a few people that are interested in the some of the older games but yet have no idea what the hell is going on. Case in point, I met up with some smash players up here a few months ago, and they were interested in seeing high level marvel play and super turbo play. Chances are they know the basic basics like motions and what not, but providing people with a bit of the strategy before hand will help them actually appreciate the game instead of watching what could look to us some bomb ass rush down by Magnus or Sent, but to them it could just look like some guy flying around like a damn moth, or random machine that keeps pounding people.
man, i did my senior project on tournaments back in 2002. it was a documentary on the tournament scene. i had interviews with rat, RBX, billy, mandel, and tons of old school southcenter footage with cody dancing. too bad thats all lost cuz it was put onto VHS and deleted from my computer cuz it took up too much space ; ; (45min video) got an A on it too.
I think that this is a great idea. Like, I can see watching a quick 3 - 5 minute video showing off the “basics” of advanced competitive play.

Brent I can ask my mom who is a lawyer about copywrite laws. Most likely she will just tell me which of her friends is the person to ask (my mom has only ever done criminal and family law), but if you can list a few specific questions I could ask someone, I can probably help us skirt legal issues.
Speaking of which, what do you want to learn about copyright laws, anyways?
If it’s regarding infringement on other people’s work (getting permission to use a particular game in a tournament), then it’s easiest to contact the company that holds the copyright.
If it’s regarding acquiring copyrights for the tournment, trademark laws are more applicable for NWM.
Either way, here are sites you could take a look at. The internet helped me a lot when learning business law last year.
US Copyright Office
Copyight Search (1978 and later)
Trademarks: Where to Start

I agree with Brent about outreach. I think one big outreach thing we can have it commentary that is DIRECTED TOWARDS PEOPLE UNFAMILIAR WITH FIGHTING GAMES.
Stuff like “ooh, he’s pwning that n00b with a DHC’d AHVB” makes zero sense to a non hardcore gamer.
I did commentary that was targeted towards non gamers in the USA vs Japan showdown… I would be happy to do that again for games I am familiar with (like ST or remix)
Have you guys thought about advertising at least at the gamestops (their clones)? I would think that most of them at the very least would let you guys get some flyers up. Or if you were really ambitious you get them to set up a table with fighting games only on with info for the event. Also I am in the navy, and in the sound we have like 10 navy bases and there are lots of 18 year kids that have little to do, it would not be to hard to set up a something with the MWR to get people to your event.
:u: You’re on one of these navy bases? Which one?
Whidbey Island :qcf:
Also one more thought have you guys thought about small local events that are related to or maybe sancitioned by the event to put the word out? I mean it looks as if we live all over the northwest.
That hella sucks. It would have been awesome to watch that; especially now 6 years later.
Do you still have the VHS tape… ?
