It’s a very common rule for event venues, though. The rule does not really apply to individual people (if you run out to Wendy’s and bring some food back or have some chinese food ordered in nobody is going to give a shit), but it means that the event organizers and principles thereof can not actually sell any food in the venue as they probably have an exclusive contract with one vendor with regards to food.
Caution: that is just an infrence from my experience having organized or help organize several events of all sizes; eric would know the actual specifics and I damn well could be wrong.
