Fuck yeah, NEC!
Can’t fucking wait for this, this event is too good to miss.
OKAAAAAY…
First of all, there is NO reason why Last Blade 2 should be run over NGBC. At all.
Now, I fucking LOVE Last Blade 2 but it is a terrible tournament game for many reasons (broken, HORRIBLE ports, even the original Neo-Geo version has slowdown, BROKEN, no offline scene outside of Japan, no history of drawing number, really BROKEN).
This compared to NGBC which has consistently managed to draw drama/hype (for an SNK game), good numbers (for an SNK game), has a good port (for an SNK game), and somewhat balanced (for an SNK game).
Secondly, with LB2 not in there there is NO reason why any of those tournaments should be run on Emulators. All of those games have perfectly fine PS2 ports. In fact, in the case of Real Bout 2, the PS2 version is actually BETTER.
Final Round XI proved to me once and for all that putting a major tournament on emulator just does not work. Converters should ALWAYS be avoided unless there are no other options (like in the case of Marvel, all DC controllers suck balls and so do all non-DC ports). Everybody in the US community uses PS2 sticks and pads, so the PS2 version should ALWAYS be the primary console of choice.
I’m sorry, but as an SNK supporter I’m sick and tired of people running our shit on MAME at tournaments. It is just ass-backwards to me and makes our whole scene look like a cheap joke. Also sorry to say, and I know old-schoolers are going to pissed off, but nobody wants to play on a junky old arcade cab if there’s a perfectly good PS2 port. Most of the SNK scene now are new-schoolers anyway, and prefer to use their own PS2 pads/sticks rather than convertors/cabs.
I’m not trying to come down on anybody, and I really appreciate the effort to represent SNK here, but these are facts I strongly believe in.
There should be only 4 official games:
- NGBC
- KOF 98 Ultimate Match
- KOF XI
- Garou or Real Bout 2
ALL RUN ON JAP PS2, although the US version of RB2 is good too.
I like Garou, but outside of the Midwest and California it has consistently failed to draw turnouts. For personal experience, plenty of people claim to love the game but when it comes time to show up and pay for it a lot of those guys seems to magically disappear into thin air. Real Bout 2 is coming up and has a lot of potential so it should be given a shot.
Eric can you pm me your number when you have a sec? I want to give you a call regarding the nec stuff when you have time.
I’m not gonna argue, but we’re running these tournaments with the idea that the better players in whatever SNK games will run their tournies. For example, Triad runs NGBC, Keits runs WHP, DG runs Neowave. We’re not trying to take away games from the lineup, we’re just trying to see how these games’ll run compared to the other SNK games, and see if emulators’ll work out. We don’t play NGBC, so I’m pretty sure you don’t want us running it . Regarding the RB2 issue, both versions (Arcade/PS2) were put side by side by someone I won’t name, and the RB2 port ended up having an issue that prevented some players from hitting all their things.
As for Last Blade 2, the infinites are banned, and everything else is fair game. I haven’t seen a LB2 tourney at NEC, so I’m not sure if America is capable of releasing the broke unto this game. All I can say is if it doesn’t work, it won’t get ran next year. The emulators issue, we’d rather not run games on emulator. But at the same time, we’d rather not see the game there at all if it means playing a severely gimped version.
And for Garou, this is the last chance I’m giving it. I’ve talked to a lot of people personally who’ve said they’d like to see Garou, and right now I believe them. In the past, tournies for these kinda games have somewhat failed (SS, Garou, Neowave), but I had nothing to do with them. Now that we’ve taken them up for this year, we’re making sure we’re not running them just for our own sake. If people back out on us this time around, oh well. We just won’t bother next time around.
Again, really sorry for the emulators thing, but if you guys wanna run your own versions of the tournaments, we won’t stop you. We’ll check the Garou port to see if its fine, if so then we’ll switch that over to PS2. But as for LB2/RB2, there really isn’t any hope for them being switched to console right now
I’ll need a spot in one of them Hal, unless they’re mad cheap and I can get one for myself (so I can actually sleep at a tournament for once and not suck)
SStenka poleeze
we will see.
It’d be better if you ran it with rigged brackets
That’s the first time I’ve heard of the PS2 RB2 having any sort of problem. In fact, like I said, the PS2 version actually FIXES some of the slowdown that plagues the Neo-Geo version.
It would really be better if you shed some more light on the problem rather than being vague and saying just some guy you know says otherwise.
About Last Blade 2, I’m all for giving it a shot but it shouldn’t push a more deserving game like KOF XI and WHP. Especially since recent tournaments for SNK have proven that if it’s not official, then it’s not going to get enough attention for people to sign for it.
Hal’s talking all this shit but come time for NEC none of this is going to happen.
And I love LB2 as well, but seriously I wouldn’t even bother putting it up there.
The guy who tested the game posts here, so if he wants to make himself know, I’ll leave it up to him.
As for the XI/WHP issue, I’m not saying they don’t need to be run over the games I chose. I’m saying I’ll leave it up to the players in those games to run those tournies, the guys who know more about the games than I do. These are just the games we decide to run, not the definite SNK lineup for NEC9. If you really want me to run all the games you’re saying, I may as well let DG do all the tournies again
Spike I won’t go back on my word if theres 15 black people staring me down tourney time :shake:
Where is DG.
DG is banned from srk until january of next year.
Not that anyone who actually plays SNK games cares but the speed on the ps2 RB2 is completely wrong. As someone who owns both the MVS cart and the ps2 one, when putting them side by side the ps2 one is just way too fast, and I’m not just talking about the lag elimination on mai’s stage etc. Me/DS/Xaq played PS2 RB2 for the first time at MWC and all 3 of us were pretty disturbed by the difference in speed.
Having characters stand there and do nothing until time over, the mvs version still has like 6 seconds on the clock when the ps2 one has already hit time over.
I still think you guys should just play it on ps2 because getting MVSes just for tournaments is a pain in the ass. I could bring RB2 on MVS for nec, for example but really we are better off using the supergun for AH2 the entire time.
Oh no, is this a bad game challenge? You’re on mister! I love a good fight, while drinking a spot of tea amongst gentlemen.
